Who is the greatest character of all time and why?

For anime......Tohru (FB). Her undying determination to work hard, I like that!

Tohru's ok...but I sometimes find her too upbeat
Sakaki:
If I can't pick Syaoran or Sakura, I'd have to say Fai from Tsubasa.
Kyo from Fruits Basket.
Yukito from CCS.
And I just can't pick between Yuuko and Watanuki from xxxHolic.

For me, I love almost all of the characters in CCS! So... I'm not listing them all. From other animes, it has to be:
Tao Ren (Shaman King)
Rosette and Chrno (Chrno Crusade)
Mitsuki (Full Moon wo Sagashite)
Suiseiseki (Rozen Maiden)
Chise (Saikano)
Echizen Ryoma (Prince of Tennis)
Rock Lee (Naruto)
Ed and Al (Full Metal Alchemist)
Daisuke and Satoshi (D.N.Angel)
