Chapter 1: Broken Promises

SPOILERS FOR CH 124! DO NOT READ IF YOUR NOT UP TO DATE!
My first drabble/shortfic. It's basicaly what Kurogane is thinking at the end of ch 124.

He hated himself, in a way. Years ago, he made a promise, to protect those he loved. At that time, he failed. He allowed his mother to be slaughtered. His father, to be eaten by a strange Oni. Again, it seems that he failed to protect those he cared for. The boy, whose soul seemed to be lost forever. The princess, suffering from heartbreak. And most of all, the wizard. Self-sacrificeing to try to save the boy, and failing. He will not let one more person disapear when he has a chance to save them. It may be too late for the boy, but it's not for the dying wizard. Any price, he will pay. To save the one he cares for most.
