He was on auto pilot.  His body just seemed to automatically do as he was supposed to since his mind was obviously malfunctioning.  Phineas couldn't think straight.  He seemed to have reached the couch, but no tension left his body.  He angrily ran a hand through his hair, and looked at his hands.

Why did this had to happen to them?

And why, oh why did it have to happen to Andy?

Why couldn't it have been him?

In a hoarse voice, he finally spoke.  "It shouldn't be like this.  Andy should be here with me.  Or at the very least, I should have been the one to have...died."  He spoke the last word strangly, as if it were caught on his throat.  He didn't look up, but he knew that Yoko was about to speak, "Why?  Because life shouldn't be random.  Because lonely, misanthropic, cripples should die, and energetic, friendly, who get dragged out of their structured life should walk away clean.

Yoko didn't know how to answer.  She opened her mouth, and said the first thing that came out, "...Phineas...Self-pity isn't like you."

"No."  Muttered Phineas, "I'm branching out from self-loathing and self-destruction."

Yoko was at a loss for words; while she had felt the death of her friend hit her hard, she couldn't sum up the words to try and help Phineas further. For that she just stared at him, staying by his side, in hopes that he may break himself free of his grieving.

Rin had gone back to her dorm; the room was very quiet, with only the trickling of water being heard from a small fountain that she had bought just a few days ago. She walked over to the stand and stared into that very fountain and watched the water trickle down, normally around this time she'd heard all sorts of commotion outside, but instead all she heard was silence - with the exception being the elders and such who were going around making sure people were alright and no one else had been harmed.

Phineas stood up, coming to a point where he couldn't just sit still for a moment longer.  He got up slowly, the hand on his cane gripping the edge.  He spoke softly, the edge still there, but not as prominent as it was a moment ago.  His eyes were glassy, but he spoke slowly and deliberately so that Yoko would understand.

"I want to see him."

Yoko sighed and glanced to her left. "Y-you know if you see him, it'll only cause you more grief right?" she said, choosing her words carefully, while she understood Phineas's desire to see Andy and his... body... she knew the sight would unnerve him and perhaps throw him into a fit of rage.

Rin wasn't going to be able to sleep; so instead she sat on the bed next to her twin sister and just caressed the girls hair, being the only person that Anise would see when the girl eventually woke up.

"Three lost, with just us two left?" One of the robed figures said when him and his companion got out of the wards that now protected the academy.

"Seem's so, though I know two are really dead and one was captured," the other figure said and glared at the wards in front of him. He tapped it with his wand, and was promptly met with a harsh electrical discharge that incinerated his staff. "Well damn..." the figure said, sounding a bit annoyed at this new development.

They both stood for a few seconds and pondered what to do next; had they just been on their guard they would've noticed a person walking up behind them carrying a large sickle that was hefted on their shoulder.

"I...I know." Phineas stuttered, a mental image flashing through his brain at Andy's expression once again.  "But I have to.  I have to see him again, Yoko."  He muttered. feverently.

Without waiting to see if she would follow, Phineas slowly made his way out and to the infirmary.

Yoko didn't say a word, but instead, followed him as he made his way slowly. Along the path they took it was very quiet, an errie feeling to Yoko and one she had only felt two times before. Once was shortly before they had founded the academy, and another was when the academy was attacked long ago and many kids had been murdered in the process.

As they approuched, Yoko had spotted two mages, both of which where of high school rank compared to Phineas and the others. They looked at Yoko and didn't say a word, instead dropping the barrier that was in front of the door, and thus perventing any unauthorized persons from entering. "He's in room 4," one of the two mages said, taking a guess as to why Phineas was there.

Phineas didn't even look at the mages, merely gave them a curt nod as he tried to speed up his irregular gait.  His eyes were firmly set to his destination in mind.

1....2.....3....

Room four looked unsettlingly empty as Phineas paused for possibly a millisecond.  He slowly grabbed the doorknob and turned it, his heart beating ferociously against his chest.  As he walked in, there was a bed by the window, and a motionless form stood there.  Phineas had to hold back the bile that was already coming to his throat as he joltingly made his way to the bedside.

There Andy lay, the shocked expression still etched upon his handsome features.  His eyes open, while his hands hung uselessly against his sides.  There was a sheet that was covering Andy up to his neck, so the gauge was not seen.  Phineas sorely wished that Andy had his eyes close, at least that way, maybe he could just...just pretend that Andy was sleeping.

But that was nonsense.  He had to try and stick with reality here.  He couldn't let imaginary ideal grab a hold of him.  He had prided himself as being a guy of science.  Simply put, Andy was...

And yet, Phineas couldn't even bring himself to say it, not even to himself, not even through his mind.  He started trembling unconciously, his hold on the cane so tight, it made his knuckles turn white.

Those guys would pay, Phineas thought.  He himself would track all of them down and kill them slowly one by one.  Vengeance was going to be served.  They would not get away with killing off his best friend.

Yoko didn't go in with Phineas, she had this happen in the past and was used to it; though she often times wished she wasn't. The room was a pale white with just Phineas and Andy's lifeless form, or what appeared to be his lifeless form. Yoko could tell that the boy was still alive, clinging to what little life he still had left. Though his expression hadn't changed, that was due to something 'else' that had been done to him, Yoko could just barely feel the work of sinister magic behind it.

And yet, she didn't tell Phineas that when the boy had gone into the room, more so because she knew he would rather be with his friend. As she watched him, she also heard the Elder in her mind tell her what they planned on doing and also that when Andy finally passed away, they would hold a funeral for the young boy. She knew also, that whoever did this couldn't have done it alone - seeing how the wards that protected the school also prevented anyone from entering the campus who weren't allowed.

Meaning... Meaning his attackers had help from the inside... she thought and growled.

Phineas didn't want to move from his spot.  He didn't want to leave, but in someway he had come to terms with it.  In a very hoarse voice in which he didn't recognize, he said, "When are...we...when am I...when are we going to...to...bury him?"  He asked, not turning around.

Yoko blinked and walked a short distance into the room, but she didn't stare at him, merely at Andy. "Three days from now," she told him and then walked up to Andy. "Until that time though, you should try and rest, let your body recuperate from this event," she said and sighed. "Let your soul travel to the next word, where you may begin a new life - and find the happiness you so deserve," she said in a silent, nearly inaudible, tone.

"Three days?"  Phineas questioned, his voice cracking slightly as the panic he had tried to hide, slipped, rising in his throat at the limited time he had.

But of course he should have known it would have been at least three days.  Bodies decay.  And Andy was...was....gone.  Phineas's right arm, straight down to his cane was shaking, as he tried so very hard to come to terms with it.  He took a couple of short, shallow breaths, but that merely increased his anxiety.  He himself had never believed in the after life, or God, or anything of that sort. What Phineas had, was a difficulty in believing in the whole concept of faith.  Faith wasn't based on logic and experience.  Faith was just blindly believing in something so feverently, it was almost sickening.  And now, for the first time in his short life, Phineas sorely hoped that there was something after this life.

For one, it would put Phineas's mind in some kind of ease, no matter how selfish that reason was.  And another was that just knowing that Andy was in a better place, Andy would be happy.  Andy would make even heaven a better place than it already was.  With his easy going personality, his loose, goofy grin, his tousled hair...

And that just made Phineas cringe even more, and hate rise even more in him as he wanted to go and stick the people who had done this to Andy.  Someone, who didn't deserve to die.  This was why Phineas thought...no, believed, that there was no God.  Why would God let something like this happen to someone so innocent as Andy?  Phineas thought, a civil war raging in his head.

Yoko watched the boy, knowing that he was in deep thought. With a subtle sigh she walked over to the window and opened it to allow the fresh cool air inside, she then turned slightly toward him. "Shall we go?" she asked softly.

Phineas gave her no reply as he stiffly made his way again across the hard floor.  Although he was walking, his mind was off somewhere else.

How could he just leave Andy like this?  How could they just bury him, and then move on?  Stopping in his brooding thoughts for a second, another memory flitted in.  One, a very long time ago, or so it seemed, where he and Andy had been in the grass fields at their old school.  Andy, as always, laying down, relaxing.  Phineas stopped, haltingly, letting the memory wash over him.

"Andrew.  You're going to get in trouble if you don't hurry up.  And pray tell...why are you not wearing your uniform?"

"Oh, Finny.  Relax!  And I told ya to call me Andy." Andy grinned up at him. "It's a wonderful day, and these kind of days are best spent with your best pal...which  you are."
.

Phineas cursed softly to himself as he started to move again.  It had not even been a full 24 hours and here he was, already missing the figure laying forlorn so damn much.

Yoko continued to watch Phineas and followed in his stride, she knew he was preoccupied by how she had to correct his walking every now and then - so that he wouldn't crash into one of the many path lights that were present along the concrete path.

As they closed toward the dormitory, Yoko caught sight of some students who were staring out their windows. Some were curious as to why a student was outside the dorms, others seemed to have figured it out, while at least a few were wondering if Phineas was above the law, those students got a glare from Yoko and a telepathic message that caused them to close their windows and disappear from her sight.

It was like he was walking in a dream, nothing seemed to be real.  How could it be reality? No, Phineas decided, it was definitely a dream.  He was floating a long, it felt like, and the only thoughts that swirled around him was his.  No other external force was prominent.  He couldn't feel anybody looking at him, at this moment, Phineas was on a one track mind.

Sooner or later, they arrived at the dorms, Yoko assisting Phineas on the bed.  Phineas hardly felt it, his weary bones eased up as his breath evened out, succumbing into a fitful sleep.

Yoko smiled and placed her hand above Phineas's sleeping form; a light blue light appeared and cast over him and then vanished. "This'll let him to rest the entire day and the whole night, without interruption," she said and walked out of the room and closed the door behind her. She glanced into the room that Rin and Anise were in, noting the two girls were asleep.

"I wonder where Sakura is..." she asked herself and stuffed her hands into her pockets as she was leaving the room; she made her way out of the dorm and across the field to the spot where Andy had been attacked. She knelt down and saw the blood stain on the grass, she also bits and peices of the assassins blade that meet partial resistance due to the uniform that Andy had been wearing. "This is just proof that we really need to streagthen the barriers on the student uniforms, increase them four times their normal streangth," she said and stood up.

She heard someone approuching behind her and glanced over her shoulder. "Sera, back to soon?" she said when she noticed the teenage looking girl. Sera smiled, hefting a large sickle that was easily twice their height. "Ran into two people just a short distance from the academy, telling by what's going on here and the fact their clothing was bloodied, I've assumed they are partially responsible for something here today?" Sera asked.

"You guessed it, we lost a student today..." Yoko said. Sera scowled and said a few choice words in her native tongue. "Never had a chance, they blew right through the magical barriers on the uniforms, and knew exactly where to hit to cause the most damage, and yet not to kill him outright," she said.

"So, what do you plan on doing then?" Sera walked up to the blood stain and inspected it, shaking her head and looking over her shoulder at Yoko.

"We'll be performing a ritual tonight, unlike before, Andy possess a Light Jewel, which succeeded in protecting his soul from destruction," Yoko said and stretched her hand out. Particles began to form and took the apperence of a long bladed weapon, "this is the weapon used to kill Andy," she said - noting the blood that had dried on it already.

"It's a soul killer weapon, made to kill the soul of a person to prevent them from passing on into the next world," Yoko said and made the sword disappear. "Andy's body is wreaked, it's beyond any means of healing even for our healers, and the Jewel will take months, perhaps even years to fully repair itself. That being said, Andy's spirit and his soul will reside here on this plane of magic, but he won't be able to interact with anyone and will only be able to observe,"

"What about the Jewel?" Sera asked.

"You've never been to these rituals, why not attend and see?" Yoko suggested, then placed her hands back into her pocket and started to walk away. Every person possess some form of the light Jewel, but those kids have it strongest. Removing the Jewel from Andy's body will cause the body to transform into nothing more than magical particles, but Andy's soul, his spirit, and his life, will remain in the Jewel... but will he ever be brought back to life? That's something that we can't decide... only the gods can...

Yoko smiled; she knew more than she was letting on, but decided not to talk further in lue that someone might be listening into her thoughts. "This war... our enemy has awoken a sleeping giant, and filled it with a great resolve," she grinned mischiviously.

Phineas slept on, unaware of what was going around him.  He slept fitfully, but did not wake.  His aching muscles relaxed, and the tension flooded out.

Silence had fallen over the academy, no one talked except during the dinner period, and even then it was only small chatter between some of the younger students who either didn't, or couldn't, understand the lock down.

Some distance away from the academy buildings was a medium sized building with a dome on top, this dome has colored glass as its roof which allowed sun and moonlight into the building itself, casting the colors of the glass that it shown through. However, this night only candles and magical floating lights kept the place lit up.

In the center of the room was a large table covered by flowers; on it Andy laid. The boy no longer bore a shocked expression, instead his eyes were closed and his hands had been propped on his chest to show a serene appearance. Around his body stood figures in black robes, each one held a book of some kind that each had a different language written on the cover.

Yoko and Yukita slowly walked into the room and looked at all those present. "Everyone's in bed?"

"Yes," one of the figures that was near the window said, he glanced out and surveyed the perimeter. "None of our students who can use invisibility magic are out, and the few that are on campus right now that can use the magic aren't able to fool our eyes," he added.

Yoko sighed and looked at everyone. "It's been a very long time since we last performed this ritual..."

"Phineas.. or rather.. the Phineas of the past, who when he passed away we sealed his Starlight Jewel," another figure, this one sporting a female tone, said.

"Yes, and the seal was broken ten years ago mysteriously," Yukita said. "As were three other seals that we can in place on the other Starlight Jewels, and five years before at least six more seals had also broke, and we have yet to find the bearers of those Jewels.." she sighed and walked up to Andy's limp form.

"When did he finally pass on?"

"Two hours ago, the kids a fighter, despite losing a vast amount of blood - more than enough to kill him - he still held on to that tiny string of life. It finally snapped two hours ago," another figure said, only this one wore a white robe and had just walked into the room.

"Shall we extract the jewel, and seal it?" the same white figure asked.

"No," Yoko said. Her response made many of those in the room looked at her sharply as if she had just said something that was taboo. "I want to transfer the Jewel into Anise; her own Jewel is still very weak and can't properly control magic,"

"You realize that, in doing so, not only will she be able to use magic fully but because it will come from a deceased person she'll be able to see the spirits of the dead right?" The white figure said.

Yoko nodded and took a few steps closer to the lifeless body of Andy. "I know it's a cruel fate, but it's even crueler to keep her away from the person she loves," she said, a tear running down her cheek.

With a sigh, the figure in white nodded and walked to the front of the table while another made his way to the back. "Once the ritual is over, it'll be four days before Andy's body returns to the magical realm," Yukita said. "So we hold it in three," she didn't bare any expression except sadness.

The room fell silent for a moment, then began to pick up as each figure chanted a different verse to the ritual. Each verse was spoken in an ancient dialect that only they knew, and each verse caused a glyph to appear around the table, just a few feet off the ground. Yoko listened, and closed her eyes, then spoke her verse - only hers was in plain English.

"We commit this course, and hereby transfer that which is from the deceased, to that of the living, so they may receive the blessing," she said. A bluish Jewel suddenly appeared out of Andy's body and hung lazily in the air before collapsed in on itself and exploded outward through the walls. Blue strings of light pierced the night sky, moving across the academy campus and toward the dormitory.

In their room, Anise was still asleep, oblivious to a blue Jewel that had appeared above her and then disappeared into her. She took in a deep breath, then let it out slowly. "Andy....." she mumbled before falling back into a pleasant sleep.

Back in the ritual chamber, Yoko let out a sigh and looked at Andy's body. "Prepare him..." she said and the others nodded and began the process.

The two of them headed out of the building and into the night; making their way across the campus and toward their own sleeping quarters. "Tomorrow will be a long day," Yoko said just as she heard a distant bell. "Today rather, seeing how it's now midnight," she added.

"Tomorrow everyone on the council will be together, all student leaders will be present for the meeting," Yukita said. "After the meeting, the academy will be transformed from a place of study and peace, to a place to get ready for war..."

"Yes, the only ones who won't commit to that are our first years, but I can safely say that Rin, Anise, Sakura and Phineas aren't first year's anymore," Yoko smiled and glanced at the Elders window. "He already explained it to Sakura right?"

"Yes, and she didn't freak out, though she was unsteady and so is sleeping there for the night," Yukita said.

Yoko nodded. "She's hiding her terror, something she'll have to face sooner or later... by the way.. what’s the situation in the normal world?"

Yukita gave her a worrying look, which was all Yoko needed to see.

Phineas awoke the next morning in a very groggy state.  He looked out the window to find that the sun had not come up yet.  He suppressed a yawn, and in that tiny moment before dreams hit reality, Phineas was at peace.  It was after that tiny moment however, was when that revelation that Andy was truly gone hit him with full force again.  It was like a wrecking ball had hit his stomach.

Phineas got up unsteadily, groping around for his cane, and finally found it, latching onto it like life support.  He changed quickly, or...as quickly as he could and slowly walked out of his room, out into the corridors.  He wasn't sure if he was allowed to be up this early, but at this moment, he really couldn't bring himself to care.  He walked around slowly, too lost in his own thoughts to be aware of anything else around him.
