Been a while since I had one of these questions...

I noticed a while back some of the users had deleted their accounts, in leaving the forum. Out of curiousity, I wanted to see if I could delete my account as well. (At the time I was considering it, but now I'm on the fence.) I noticed that the option is nowhere in the profile section.
I asked a user who had successfully deleted her account, and she said that it was simply an option in her profile. I checked in the section she said it was in, and still saw nothing.

Why is it that some users can delete their accounts and others can't? Am I just not seeing something in the profiles? o.o;

Click the profile button on the top of the page (toward the left side)

Once your profile appears, look to the left side of the screen. Under the title ACTIONS there is a 'Delete Account' option.

Click it. It'll prompt you 'Are you sure? Yes or No' Click yes and your account is deleted.

Like I always tell people, unless you're really set on never returning, deleting an account is the last resort. If you plan on leaving and hold some hope of returning or decide to lurk, you're better off keeping it intact. Of course if you delete it, you can always create a new one if you return.

Any questions about this or if there's a reason why you want to leave and feel like talking to a mod or administrator, our doors are open 24/7...at least mine is.

Hmm... that's odd... As far as the account deletion option goes, I don't see the section you're referring to.

^ That's what I see as options on my profile. Nowhere do I see an 'Actions' option.

And as far as talking to an admin about possible reasons for leaving, I'll consider it, but I'm not sure it's something I wish to discuss.

Looked at your pic...and you're right. It's not on that particular screen. On mine it's the third option down on the top left side. I'm also still using the original forum 'skin' so I don't know what to say.

Maybe someone took it off to prevent you from deleting yourself. I'd take that as a sign from above

I changed the various skins around, and still no change as far as third section on that sidebar. None of the skins. :/

User title, Takeru? As in, yours being a Mega fan, and mine being a Dedicated Fan? That could be it, I guess....

I think only mods, admins and those who donated to the forums have that option. ^^; I can't find that link anywhere too.

Maybe not even mods actually, since I don't see that as an option either. o_o Although I won't be using it anytime soon, it is strange.

Perhaps only global mods, admin, and donators? Possibly post count? This is quite a mystery. XD

Or maybe... it IS a sign from above. ^^

I actually started looking for that link a few months ago after seeing that I have that option on another forum with almost the same format. I didn't see that link at that time too, so I don't think it was turned off recently. ^^;

I didn't touch any of the user permission settings recently so don't look at me.

I'll check it later. The only thing I remember about that setting though is that I disabled it for regular members so only admins can delete user accounts. I was afraid of the possibility of someone logging in to another member's account just to delete it. That process is irreversible so it would be a disaster if something like that happened.

Looking into it, I know I have the option but as far as the members here, it's not an option. There's one sure-fire way to get your count deleted...piss off one of the administrators but for those who don't want to be a member here anymore...simply don't post or come here but we definitely don't want it to come to that. Plus if anyone does decide to leave, keeping the account allows you to return when you're back up to coming back to the forum.

Not exactly permission but assistance, yes. We will not deny anyone of their right to have their account deleted if they request it. We just have to make sure that it's really the owner of the account who's making the request.Â

Just to clarify, only the administrators have the option to delete user accounts here. So if anyone wants to have their account deleted, just PM me or SLi. No, you don't need to write an essay on why you're leaving the forum. You don't have to explain anything when making this kind of request.

The account will be deleted 3 days after we receive the account owner's request.Â

oh by the way, your "options" are the same regardless of the forum theme/skin you're using.

She wasn't however she was a DONATOR to the forum. Maybe since the administrators gave her as well as a few others and myself a custom title that option appeared...or maybe, since I can't obviously talk to her...asked to have her count deleted. Don't know the answer and I rather not speculate. What's done is done and I for one am very sad to see such a valuable member like Moezy-chan leave here because she was a great person to have here in the forum.

Which brings me back to my first post, where I stated that it may be a possibility that Donators have that option. ^^; Maybe Little Wolf forgot that the change in the custom title gives donators the option to delete their accounts? (And yes, Moezy-chan deleted her account herself, but I'm not going into details.

I am sad to see her leave too.)

Only the Admins can change the forum settings.

Or maybe ask around if any of them including non-active ones to check if they changed the setting by accident.

There are other admins besides me and SLi but they are inactive. So yes, currently it's just me and SLi who can change any settings.

About the settings having a bug, I'm not sure. We're using a pretty old version of this forum anyway. And with all the customizing we've done here, upgrading it would be difficult. There'd be downtimes, errors, etc. So we'll stick with this version for the meantime. Everything seems to be running smoothly now, anyway.
