The official Japanese DVD's
« on: March 19 2006, 06:26 am »
Has anyone got any of the official Japanese DVD's of the movie?

The front covers look like this

1st movie

2nd movie

Since mw and my brother only got the crappy English dub of the 1st movie and a bootleg of the 2nd movie (which is bad quality obviuosly), my brother in particular wants to replace them with the Japanese versions, however it costs at RRP (recommended retail price) 9800 Yen which is approximately $84.67 which is approximately £55 !!!!! not kidding, it's damn expensive! I know the movies come with a booklet and some sort of card.

So I want to know if anyone has got these movies? If so what extras does it features? can you scan some pages of the booklet and card for me? and last question is is it worth for 9,800 yen/$84.67/£55?

Hm.. I've never seen those until now. They look really neat though! $84.67 is alot of money! I'm guessing that is for both together?

Nope, it costs $84.67 each, so if you want to buy both of the movies it will cost you $169.34!!!!!
That's definitely way too expensive >.<", however I heard that it's jam packed with extras and you get cards, booklets and other stuff exclusive to those DVD's so I was wondering has anyone got more info on them?

I'm bot sure, but maybe the exta material contains the Video Diaries? Those are three very short movies (about five minutes each) filmed by Tomoyo. It's just a guess, though.

And yeah Japanese DVD's are always expensive, but I most of my Japanese DVD's which I got are between $40-$60, but I never got anything which costs about $84 !!!

The Tomoyo Video Diaries are special "gifts" you got if you collected all the Japanese laserdiscs for CCS.  They aren't apart of the R2 releases of the movies.  If you want to know what extra features are on the R2 DVDs, you can just check CD Japan.  Here's the extras on the first movie DVD: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BCBA-315 and here's the extras on the second movie DVD: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BCBA-661 Other than the booklets and cards, there doesn't really look to be any major difference between the R2 and R1 DVDs, so unless you can find the R2 DVDs for a cheaper price, I really don't see the point of buying them when you can get essentially the same disc minus the booklets and cards for a cheaper deal by buying the American release.
When her leathery, crow-footed face turned towards my raised hand and said, “Yes, the boy in the Sailor Mercury t-shirt,” I sprung into action. It took me a brief 20 seconds to acquire the bokken (wooden sword) I had secured to the underside of our chairs with duct tape the night previous. Shouting “Japan BANZAIII!” in the manner of those noble kamikaze pilots from the War of United States Aggression (so tactlessly referred to in your history books as “World War II”), I charged the stage, bringing down the bokken forcefully onto the plywood table in front of Tiffany Grant. It was a tragic mistake not to channel my ki correctly. The bokken splintered into a thousand pieces, leaving me with no other plan of attack besides shouting, “You’re no Asuka!” as two Ohayocon toughs escorted me out of the room-SomethingAwful.com

Ah! thanks CC Takato, though the problem is that I'm not from the US or Canada, so I don't have a R1 player. My DVD player only plays R2, so unless I can get a R1 player, then I would have definitely go for the American versions. I just wanted to know if the Japanese versions are worth getting since they are expensive, but if they are not then I would just have to stick to the bootleg ones.

I've got the R1 dvds and they rock! Dual Audio and all that.

Umm... if you watch dvds on your computer, you can download a hack to watch other regions. Same if you have a Play Station 2. You know dvd players are very cheap now. You could get one for half the price of one R2 dvd I think and spend the rest on the R1 dvds.

I know I'm bringing a dead topic back to life, Gomen nasai, but I just didn't want to start a new topic for the sake of further news about the official Japanese DVD's

I found from CDJapan the 2 movies are being released in Japan again as a boxset. I think you get the same stuff as you get with the individual DVD's, but the whole movie is remastered and you get the DVD's in a lovely delux box. It's limited edition as well and slightly cheaper then getting the DVD's individually

I think I will probably get this, even though it's expensive because I am only willing to pay this much when it comes to CCS lol!

Also if anyone is looking to buy the DVD's individually, I have finally found a cheaper place to get them at YahooJapan auctions. I found some with prices that can go anything from $30-$80, though they are second hand copies.

What's the price for the box set? Is it subtitled in English?

Seen the new boxset. Looks nice. I haven't bought any of the Japanese DVD sets though I own the original 2 movies from Japan and the LD sets, which are beyond nice.

It depends where you buy it because it varies depending on the retail shop/site, but the RRP (recommended retail price) is 14,800 Yen (approx $122) and no, it deosn't contain any English subtitles. Infact 99.9% of Anime DVD's published in Japan doesn't contain any English subs.

Coolies.
I got all the official CCS Japanese DVD boxsets in first press, so I got clear files with them. I really wanted the 2 Japanese movie DVD's but they are really pricey and I don't know how to afford them, but since I found YahooJapan Auctions have them more cheaper then I might get eventually buy them, but I'm spending my money on the boxset first.
