hahaha funny thread...

from what i've seen, i guess it depends on the character but most of them seem bisexual. I don't like that personally, but at least i'm glad that characters like Syaoran(that seemed to be gay at first in CCS) end up being with a pairing of the opposite sex. I know that he was attracted to Yukito because of the powers of the moon, but that always seemed like a bisexual actitute to me >.<

I think this thread should be in the Anime and Manga Forum since we're talking about CLAMP in general.

I think all of CLAMP's characters are created with a pretty specific gender and sexual identity in mind, even if it's completely genderless, such as with Ashura from RG Veda. To my mind, much of the point of 'CLAMP Gakuen Tanteidan' is very much about gender identity and construction- the CLAMP Gakuen Tanteidan specifically serves and helps girls and girls alone. Also, much of the point of Tokyo Babylon is that Subaru and Seishirou are two -males- in a romantic relationship in a society that doesn't exactly accept gay relationships. If Subaru were a girl, much of the punchline, if you will, of the manga would be lost.

I think that Clamp does have in mind what orientation the characters have. Like Fye, I don't exaclly think he is gay but we kinda get a message that he kinda has a crush on Kuro [to my pov]. And like in Legal Drug, Kaze[forgot the rest of his name] is way too good looking to be straight [even his hair looks gay Xp].

I voted for "created with real gender and sexual preferences" if it's what I think it is. I think most Clamp characters seem to be created with the 'someone just for me' type of idea regardless of orientation, and Clamp doesn't seem to care about whether they're gay, straight, bi, or...nothing. It's sad that people still have an issue with gay people/characters, but whatever. That'll pass eventually, I hope. Unrelated, I don't think Fai could possibly be any gayer if he tried. XD

In most cases the orientation isn't even mentioned, as if it should just be accepted. In a few cases they make a bigger deal out of it (Tokyo Babylon) as part of the story. I don't think all the characters are necessarily gay, bi, straight, genderless, asexual...etc. I think there's a mix of just about everything in every story that Clamp has written.

People will always see what they want to see though, so if they want to pretend that Tomoyo only loves Sakura in a sisterly way, nothing will probably convince them otherwise. Funny how we don't have to argue that Sakura's straight though.

Well, that's a relief to know if Syaoran's bisexual that leaves my hopes for Syaoran/Seishirou way up. ^___^ Maybe that holds true for Sakura, too (looking at Arcademan's sig). Except for the fact that CLAMP created Kuro to give Tomoyo a man. But I guess that makes Kuro bisexual too since he's with Fai now.

Hmm.. it's all too confusing... XD

I think I should just settle for this option...

Yeah, because that's what every lesbian wants for Christmas. XD

Heh, Fai isn't exactly gay, he just happens to have sex with another man. ^___^

To keep us on the topic of Tsubasa, I'd like to mention Ashura. (not Ashura-ou, the king in tsubasa) I think even characters in Tsubasa that Clamp have actually stated had no determined gender (actually I'm wondering if Ashura in Tsubasa could possibly have both genders, or does it say he/she/it has none?) still emotionally and mentally seem like one gender or the other, and with a definite sexual preference. When I think of Tsubasa Ashura, I do think male. To me, he looks male, and just seems male.. and well, pretty gayish. ^__^ Damn, I'm tired. XD

I think that Clamp tries to tell that there's always a true love for someone, no matter if this person is male, female, robot, angel, a kid or whatever... Even if someone's not gay, let's say Touya, he can fall in love with another guy - Yuki - because that guy is the person for him....

Wait... Okay, Touya is like Fai then!! XD He's not gay either, he just happens to have sex with another man. ^______^

I read somewhere that CLAMP does love genderless characters, because if like that then  these characters can love anyone as they want without any issue (??), but I know some are still made in their real gender and such

Actually, I think the aim of this thread has been misunderstood. Maybe I should have given a better explanation at the beginning, but I started it in the Tsubasa section because it was meant to discuss CLAMP characters in the context of Tsubasa (since most of them cross over anyway). So this thread shouldn't have been moved in the first place, therefore it doesn't make sense to me to change the title just because it was moved.

I like my wife's point about Ashura, too. Just because RG Veda says he/she's genderless, does that really mean he's genderless in Tsubasa as well? If he looks, seems, and acts male (and rather gayish), does that make his soul really male (and not necessarily his body)? Since CLAMP has shown that soulmates are the same in every universe, it makes sense that their gender preferences would stay the same (unless they have no soulmate?) Or unless their soulmate can be a different gender in a different world... Hmm.. that could make for some interesting circumstances. *imagines Syaoran as a woman* XD

Thread locked...because nobody, including other moderators, do NOT make changes after I've done it.

Do it again and you'll have to deal with me.

Next time, try wording your post better so nobody misunderstands it.
