Title: About the "cookies"
Post by: Little Wolf on April 04 2006, 11:41 pm
Cookies represent a member's popularity in the forum. If a member does a good thing to you, you can give him a cookie.  :keke:

Your level should be "Super Fan" to be able to give cookies.

Currently, only administrators have the ability to eat cookies. (Yeah, SLi and I are the forum's cookie monsters!  :tongue3: )

We're currently celebrating the forum's anniversary month. We might have the shop ready for members during this so stay tuned!

Currently the shop is empty, due to a certian member or two using the items to take revenge on other forum members (sad indeed)

How cruel. Shouldn't it be used for only registered members?

kudan - It doesn't if you have a good moderator staff (which I'm lucky to have one), that way they can't do exploit tactics like duplicating cookies and dummy members feeding cookies to one user.

But the best place to earn cookies? Tournaments. Lots of it.

True, sometimes a little competition is good. ^^

If there were fights over cookies... We might as well close the shop since greed would take over. I said 'If,' okay?

The best way is tournaments. Beside Icon and Banner tournaments, would game tournaments count as well?
Title: Re: About the "cookies"
Post by: Robin Sena on April 13 2006, 01:14 am
Hikari_Blaze - It really depends on the members themselves if they want to act greedy or not. I just got lucky with the concept because the members cooperate well.

Gaming tournaments are nice.

If I have any say in the matter, the 'Cookie Store' will NEVER open up simply because the system is being abused BIG TIME here!!!

A person joins the forum today and already has 3 cookies?!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!!
Title: Re: About the "cookies"

exactly,i made a reflexion on the topic of the newbie about that  :shifty:!
it is not her fault of course, but the menbers were feeling a little too bit generous  :sweatdrop:!
cookies should only be given for special reply (like a fanart,a colored scan,an intersting link,or even a good comment  :okay:)
Title: Re: About the "cookies"

I'm actually thinking of adding a new rule. That one should not be given a cookie just because he joined CWF.
Title: Re: About the "cookies"

yeah,it would be a good idea to stop abuses  :surprised:!
for instance,to be able to give a cookie to a new member, this one should have at least more than five or ten posts,so the "welcoming cookie" would be cancelled,,and the newbie would be obliged to prove his sincerity to earn his very first cookie  :okay:

First...don't use excessive emoticons in your posts. Second...do something worthwhile and EARN THE COOKIES. Don't beg for them. That's totally unbecoming a member of this forum.

This is a perfect example of "cookie abuse". You register to participate in the forum and NOT just to collect cookies (which aren't edible anyway).

Nope. Only the administrators can 'eat' cookies. You do not lose one when you give someone else a cookie.

Title: Re: About the "cookies"

i just wanted to ask a very essential question which is starting to annoy me...
is there any way to know WHO gave us a cookie?
i mean that sometimes i receive a cookie without knowing the one who has done this kind deed, and so i can't thank him properly  :(!

like said before,a cookie is a gift given to reward a member for something interesting he has posted,so by receiving a unknown cookie from nowhere it is like if someone threw away a cookie in a bin  :sweatdrop:

it would be profitable to view in our profile the names of the generous donors  :okay:
Title: Re: About the "cookies"
Post by: Arcademan on October 28 2006, 12:07 pm
We thought of that but I personally think it's better this way. Most people will tell you when they gave you a cookie but there are those who are shy about it. Any others agree or disagree?

so,it is better if we know who gave us cookie in profile settings!!  :okay:

We thought of that but I personally think it's better this way. Most people will tell you when they gave you a cookie but there are those who are shy about it. Any others agree or disagree?

Perhaps there could be a check box in the account setting of every member able to give cookies saying "Always include my name when giving cookies"? That way, if the cookie giver doesn't wish to be anonymous, the receiver will automatically know who gave it. That could also lessen the amount of off-topic posts with people informing about, and thanking each other for, given cookies (not that that appears to be a problem, but still). Also, when a non-anonymous cookie giver gives a member a cookie, a little form with the headline "I gives you a cookie because..." could automatically pop up, to be filled in and sent alongside with the cookie if the giver wishes to.

Maybe it's too complicated, at least the second part of my suggestion.
Title: Re: About the "cookies"
Post by: Tatasenko on November 01 2006, 07:07 am
you are right Ando,it should be normal to know the reason why we have received a cookie, and the member who has given us it should be free to reveal or not his identity,so everyone would be satisfied on the two sides  :okay:!

moreover, knowing who is the donors would be very helpful for the moderators to detect the abuses!
for instance if a newbie has oddly gained a huge amount of cookies in one go,the moderator would have the possibility to check his profile so as to find the cookies' trafficker  :haha:

so now it's up to you to decide  :keke:

And the question to follow would naturally be: are there big money to be gained in the cookie trafficking business?

Jokes aside, I don't really think cookie abuse is that major a problem here, but I, as not yet being able to give out the sweet things, feel that sending a PM or writing a post in a board with the sole intend of informing about a given cookie is a bit... too much. Some (optional) automatic thingie would be preferable.
Title: Re: About the "cookies"

don't worry, the "Mokona's kidnapper guild" is here to protect the forum from black market, the only one who is able to steal a huge amount of cookies is mokona because of his giant mouth !
...okay,i'm totally out of topic but this is all fault to Mokona, not mine  :haha:!

hum, more seriously,i don't think that anyhow it would really bother someone to see his name written on the profile of the member whom he has given a cookie, because after all he certainly wish to be known by this person,or else he wouldn't have any reason to offer a cookie if it was only to be forgotten just after.
of couse a cookie is before all a reward, but we don't give cookie only for pleasure, but also because we want to create bond with the member so as to be more inmost  :keke:!

but maybe that some menbers are shy and don't dare to come forward,so we have to help them  :okay:
Title: Re: About the "cookies"
Post by: Tenkuuken on November 02 2006, 04:58 am
As for cookie abuse, in the end it all depends on the control of a member if he feels generous or something, I guess.
Title: Re: About the "cookies"
Post by: Arcademan on November 05 2006, 09:10 am
I wouldn't worry too much about the cookies system. If it was up to me, I'd eliminate it altogether. My opinion and don't bother trying to argue it against me.

in some way you are right because cookies may provokes jealousy around the forum...of course we are not children begging for candies, but sometimes members give a cookie for nothing while when it is worthy they don't give anything,so in fact cookies are useless since they don't prove the merit of a member  :sweatdrop:...

but on the other hand the value of a cookie depends on the liking of the member who has given it,because everybody haven't got necessary the same likings,so for instance when a fanart is posted it does not mean that the creator will automatically receive a cookie, only the menbers who have liked it may be generous  :keke:

so even if cookies are not really equally shared, they are still welcome when a member wants to express his admiration more than with words  :okay:

i like the cookie system alot now. you can only take or give ONE AT A TIME. not like the unfair or stupid rep systems on other boards where you can give or take as much as you want from someone who made a TINY STUPID MISTAKE. *huff*

anyways, the cookie system is cool ^^  Fun and sophisticated and much more pleasant

redeternity, perhaps someone thought you were spamming. you can only give or take one between (is it 3 or 6 hours? so maybe 3 people got anoyed o.O

Seriously?! I really hope I haven't. I'm pretty certain I haven't spammed at all yet. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm only new but I lurk around forums loads and I know what makes a good post from a bad one. I don't really want/need the cookies anyway it's just feels kinda strange that I have minus 3. Ah well.
