Two Scarlet eyes peirced the surrounding area ... they held a lazy and tired look - complimented by the squinting of its Yawn .
Hori had been sleeping in a tree... Her Bo-staff held at her side ...She relaxed from her yawn and her streach - brushing back her locks of red hair - glistening within the evening light ...
SHe had been awakened by a sound ... and now - fully awake and alert - Hori's sences went to work ... Analyzing all of the details of the sleepy forest she had chosen to sleep within .

".....AAAH!! WHAT THE H*** IS THIS PLACE!!" Watanuki frantically ran around the forest . He had only gone off to run an errand for Yuuko when...the spirits had started chasing him again. Running from them, he had fallen into a sewer hole..which soon turned out to be a portal to another world; landing him here in the forest.
He looked around, worried and lost. where am I, where am I, where am I, where am I???

Hori flipped over the branch and landed where the noise had come from ... ' AAAAH!!!!!!! WHAT THE H*** IS THIS PLACE !!' It screamed ...
Hori landed behind the boy and smirked ... " Lost are we?" Her velvety voice dripped out ...

Subaru blinked and straightened up, taking in his surroundings warily. The last thing he knew, he was back at home trying out a new type of blood magic...something to make journeys easier. Looks like I sent myself on a journey instead. But where am I?
A crash came from somewhere deeper in the forest, and Subaru frowned as he sensed a being of great power up ahead. I have no idea if it's dangerous or not...but maybe they know where I am.
Gathering some of his ofuda into his hand, Subaru advanced deeper into the trees, on guard and prepared for anything.

Lost are we?
Watanuki froze in shock. Turning around slowly to the source of the voice, he saw a young girl with bright scarlet eyes. He blew a sigh in relief.
At least this somebody's here..
"Er..hello."

" Hello ... " she said .... " Who are you ?" She asked ...

I should be asking that...
"I'm Kimihiro Watanuki." he bowed. "you are?"
Judging be her appearance; the girl didn't seem to be dangerous.

" Hori ... " She bowed too .. " Nice to meet you Watanuki-san "
A sudden rustle in the bushes brought out Hori's more hostile side... within miliseconds the bush was inflames as a black shadow disintigrated within its heat ... Hori's palm outfaced towards the now bonfire of a bush ... She sighed and closed her palm - the flames extuinguished themselves from exsistance...
" Watch out for those ... " she said ... " They would quickly slice your thoat as you would blink "

Watanuki watched the girl extinguish the flames, his mouth gaping. "Wa, wa, wa, what?"
This place is dangerous!
He looked at Hori, blinking. "Are you like...a guardian of this forest?"

She gave a laugh " oh... no! " She smiled " I'm just here ..." She said ... " I'm not anything like a gardian of here - Those blasted thing wouldnt be here if I was in charge " she looked at the crumpled pile of ashes .
" Why ? What are you here for ? "

"I..came here by accident. " He smiled and flushed in embarrassment. "I was being chased by them and sort of fell through a sewer drain..landing here."
He looked around. "There doesn't seem to be a way back either.."

Subaru stayed back in the shadows, staring at the pair in front of him. A boy...Subaru didn't know who he was, but he could sense the paranormal activity around the boy. He can contact spirits...but someone's using magic to stop that. He realised. But he didn't really care about the boy's meager power.
It was the girl he was interested in. Girl...what girl ever had scarlet eyes? She was clearly the source of power he'd been sensing, and she looked to be in control of the situation. It seemed like she would be the one to talk to.
As if....someone with that amount of power, and that ability to summon fire....it's best to just stay hidden and spy. He decided..

She gave a slightly apologetic smile ... " I see... " she said .." Well .. If I here anything on how to get back to your world ... I'll say .."
She felt someones eyes upon her .. but didnt react ...

Watanuki glanced at Hori, noticing her sudden hesitation.
"Is something wrong?"
There, he felt it himself...someone watching them. Someone else is here...

Subaru cursed as he felt the thick air of unease settle on the scene in front of him. D.amn...the girl sensed me, and the boy picked up on that....
Taking a deep breath, he stepped out of the shadows and into the light, keeping a tight grip on his ofudas as he surveyed the pair in front of him.
"Greetings. I mean you no harm, as long as you do me no harm. One of my...enchantments went wrong, sending me here. Could either of you possibly tell me where here is?" He asked calmly.
From the corner of his good eye, he could see the boy staring open mouthed at his blind eye, but he ignored him, focusing mainly on the girl instead.

" Midori forests - Plane of Gaia " She said sonorously , Surveying the character infront of her ... " Who are you ?" she asked their eyes meeting...

Subaru shrugged, his eyes staring at her sharply.
"I don't give out my name to those who refrain from telling me theirs." He said finally, smirking slightly as he saw that the other boy was becoming nervous. Perhaps he should be...there is a lot of magical tension in the air. He thought wryly.

" Hori ... " she said, Starting to dislike this sly character in front of her ... " Now ... You ?"

Wha What?? Where did this man come from?
Watanuki stared at the man. He could see a strange aura..a spirit, surrounding the man. This man..
He frowned. Why was he only talking to the girl??

Subaru put his ofuda-free hand in his pocket, leaning back nochalently against a tree. He knew very well that he was making a bad impression, but what did he care? As long as he had at least partial control of the situation, he didn't care what anyone thought. Making that mistake had cost too many times before.
"My name is Subaru Sumeragi." He said, beginning to fish in his pocket for a cigarette. Finally finding one, he pulled out his lighter and lit it, putting it to his mouth and inhaling.
"Does the boy have a name?" He asked, pointing a thumb at the boy who looked, if anything, even more panicky and abashed. Perhaps the boy was wondering why he only spoke to the girl...Smirking, he glanced at the kid.
"Stop fretting, kid. In the overall scheme of things, you're just a small fry when compared to her. It's only natural that I speak to her. So...name?"

" Mou sukoshi de kizutsukeru !" She Said in japanese ... " Watanuki-san is as important as the both of us so get a grip on reality before your attitude goes up in flames and takes a dive on you "

A..A FRY??
Through his fast rising temper, he managed to clench his fists and restrict himself from strangleing the man.
Watching the man smoke, he saw the spirit around him grow larger. Eyes widening, he stepped back in surprise.

" Watanuki-san ? " she said " Are you alright ?"

Watanuki looked at Hori questionably. "You don't see it?"
Watching the girl shake her head, he pointed at the man. "His smoking's making them bigger.."

" ... I'm guessing ... a spirit of some sort ... " she muttered " I'm not suseptable to them ... So that probably why i cant see it ... " She looked kindly at Watanuki ... " Its alright ... "

Subaru sighed, and pulled out an ofuda. Muttering something under his breath, he threw the ofuda into the air, smirking as he sensed the spirits departing.
"Old forest spirits. Honestly, boy, for someone who has obviously been able to contact the spirit world for a long time, you know virtually nothing, don't you?" Subaru said scathingly, staring at Watanuki in scorn.

Hori gave a scornful look of her own ... " Leave him alone..." She said with some nastyness present within her tone ... " you really have no sence of politeness do you ?"

Watanuki frowned. "What do you mean?"
His entire life he had been chased by spirits...what could he not know about them?

Subaru stared at the girl levelly, carelessly allowing some ash from his cigarette to blow away into the wind.
"Listen, girl, when you've been through what I have, and seen what I've seen, then maybe you'll understand why I don't particularly care about a sense of politeness." He growled, glaring at her.
Seeing her about to reply, he he cut her off with another dark comment.
"Trust me...when you live through the apocalyspe and watch your friends and loved ones die around you...then you'll know what I mean. And boy...you act so knowledgeable - but you'll never experience the spirit world fully enough to learn if you block yourself off from it."

She didnt respond to either of Subaru's comments - She knew how it felt to loose someone close to her ... someone very close ...
" We all come from different worlds here .. " she said .." There for .. our knowlage will be different from each others... what is real in one with be fantasy in another " she looked at Subaru with a slightly less hard glance

Meanwhile, in a nearby tree...
Gai awoke to the sounds of some people chatting amongst themselves. Running a quick systems diagnostic, he was relieved to see that there were no major abnormalities in his cybernetic parts. Sill, there were pressing questions on his mind: what had happened, and where was this? Figuring that speculation wouldn't help at the moment, he dropped down from his perch and approached the group.
"Excuse me, but, uh, where is this?"

Hori jumped as the new commer arrived ... " Midori forests .. Plane of Gaia " She smiled " Who are you ?"

Subaru narrowed his eyes at the new arrival. Yeesh...for a quite forest, things sure get busy here.
His eyes widened as he noticed how the newcomer looked. Could he be...a....cyborg?
Outwardly, he simply rolled his eyes and took another puff of his cigarette, acting as though he couldn't care less.
"My my. Your forest sure gets a lot of visitors, Hori." He sai dryly. From the corner of his eyes, he could see Watanuki staring nervously at the new arrival, and Subaru had to fight down the strong urge to sneak up behind the nervous boy and scare him.

" actually .. I dont ... " She glared back at him " You lot are the only visitors I've had in yonks .." she said turning and smiling at The newcommer..

Gai nodded thoughtfully at the information he had managed to glean so far. Looking over at Subaru and the kid, he began to piece together his suspicions.
"Hm, I assume that the two of you were brought here as well? Oh, but I forget my manners. I'm Gai, of the Gutsy Galaxy Guard. Nice to meet you all."

what the hell?! a robot!?
Watanuki lept back in surprise; staring in awe at the cyborg. What the heck's wrong with this place?! The girl's okay, but a rude man and a robot appearing out of nowhere??

Subaru snorted at the cyborg's welcome, and looked away.
"Hn. Nice to meet you too. Now, Hori, are you going to make us stand around here all day, or are you going to tell us where we really are? This isn't just a forest, is it? We wouldn't have all ended up here if it was just an ordinary bunch of trees."
At Hori's startled face, Subaru felt a dim sense of satisfaction spread through him.

She was indeed suprised that he had figured it out quickly ...
she gave a half grumpy sigh " Well, May as well tell you now ... There was no point untill you were all here ..."
She looked around at them all ... " I've choosen you to come and play the game with me ... " she smiled ... " seems I choose well... "

Subaru's lips curved into a sneer, and he carelessly (although making sure it was properly out first) tossed his cigarette away.
"I knew it! I was sure that I had cast my spell properly! What kind of sick game are you playing? I have duties to do as the Sakurazukamori, you know!" He snapped angrily.

"Where the Heck am I?!?!" Misao yelled very loudly
She looked at her map this doesn't look like the way back to Kyoto
she stumbled into a clearing and looked up at all the faces staring at her

" And she arrives ... " Hori said ... " Hey.... Whats your name ? "She smiled at the new commer ..

Misao had her kunai ready if these people were unfriendly
"Who is Misao Makimachi to tell her name to perfect strangers, huh?"

" Nice to meet you Misao-san " she said ... " We're not here to hurt you .. I'm Hori "
She pointed to everyone in turn ... "These are Watanuki-san , Subaru-san and Gai-san "

"Who says we're not here to hurt anyone? I personally want to strangle you right now, Hori" Subaru smirked, fishing around in his pocket for another cigarette.
He glanced at Misao, eyeing her kunai.
"If you want to put that thing to good use, why not try attacking Hori? After all, she's the one who brought us here for her little game." He said bitterly.

"Why don't you huh? Nobody's attacked me yet either. What game do you mean anyways? And will sombody tell me where I am and how far it is to Kyoto?"
She took an instant disliking to the man that just spoke to her

"We're in the Midori forests .. Plane of Gaia.......apparently." Subaru replied.
"And don't ask me what game she's playing with us - she hasn't said yet. Oh, and I wouldn't get too worked up about returning to Kyoto, either.....from the looks of it, we've all been pulled out of our own worlds into this one."
Subaru absent-mindedly brushed some of the dirt off his trenchcoat before continuing.
"And I don't kill people unless I'm being paid. Not anymore. That's why I haven't tried to kill her yet." He explained.

" Hey . First of .. It isnt MY little game ..." She said resisting the urge to weld Subaru's socks to his feet " I was placed here too .. I just chose you lot to join me ..."
She gave a nasty and poisonous glare at Subaru .. " Unfortunatly .. I only had pictures to choose from ... "

"Yeah well, I'm not exactly over the moon that you chose me, either." Subaru growled.
"So if it's not your game...who's is it, and why are we being made to play with you?" He asked snappily. Seeing the stubborn look on Hori's face, he sighed and quietly said a word that he hadn't used in a long time.
"Please."

She smiled at the aspect of him saying Please..
She gladly explained " The man in charge is called Tarukane ... Were being made to play a game called 'Sanzon' ... Basically a survival game in where its either we all die or we all get out , so were gonna have to work together . "
" And were gonna have to wait for instruction " She looked around as if looking for something " Thats all I know.. " ...

Watanuki frowned and sat down under a tree. Yuuko's going to be soo mad..I suppose she has something to do with this!
He looked around, observing the new people he's met the few minutes ago. A girl, a man, a robot, and a girl with knives...just great.
Sighing, he listened to Hori. "A game, huh?

She nodded in reconition of Watanuki
" yes a game .. "

"So how long do we have to wait?"
Misao asked while sitting down by ....
" Watanuki is it? Nice ta meetcha!"

" I dont know ...But anyone out of this group could recive the orders ... " She said ...

"Er...hi." Watanuki stared at the girl beside him.
She seems to be normal, except the fact that she carries knives around..
He looked up at Hori. "Orders?" In an instant Yuuko's image popped into his head. A dark shadow crossed his face..yeah, orders...

" orders .. Instructions .. whatever ... " She said waving it off... obviously looking for them ..

Subaru cocked his head to the side, a small distant look passing over his face.
"We have to walk deeper into the forest.....and wait by the white rock for further instructions.....Hori, the game starts now, and the Tarukane will have his revenge upon you for all that you've done.....you will lose this game of 'Sanzon'. " Subaru murmured faintly, his eyes unfocused as he stared at Hori.
Then, slowly, a more aware expression passed over his face, and he blinked, straightening up.
"Ok, who decided I would be the one to deliver that little message? Why couldn't it have been Watnuki?! The boy has connections with spirits too!" Subaru cursed, beginning to massage his temples, feeling the beginning of a lovely migraine starting.

She watched and listened intently as Subaru recited the message ... Obviously their orders...
" Maybe ... they just decided on random.." she said to answer his question ... " And we WONT lose... " She looked at no one in particular... " To the white rock then ... "
she scanned the possible ways to go .. and reached into her pocket and retrieved a small crystal tied onto a silver chain ... She slowly let it dangle and it slowly started to swing in a circle .. Hori kept her hand steady ...
The pendulam slowly tapered the circle to a straight line ... pointing in at the route at her left ...
" This way ... " She said ... as she set off in the direction ... Clasping the pendulam tightly ...

Misao scrambled to get back up and held out her hand in offering Watanuki up as well. She thought he looked uncomfotable around these strange people.

Watanuki sighed miserably. Why do these things happen to me??
Looking up, he saw Misao offer her hand at him. He smiled, taking the hand. "Thank you."
He followed Hori while eyeing Subaru suspiciously. "So...we're supposed to find something?"

"Yep anytime!" she smiled back at him
Misao spun around and followed the girl called Hori
although she didn't understand exactly why

Gai followed the group, keeping a sharp eye out for any danger.

She turned to see if everyone was following .. and heard Watanuki's comment
" Were going to find a white rock ... keep a look out now .." she said

Subaru sighed as he glanced around him, wondering how on earth things had progressed to this. He hadn't been around so many people since he fought alongside Kamui and the others, and the truth was that it was making him feel exceptionally uneasy.
For someone used to the solitude of working and killing alone, the amount of chatter and small talk made him feel like he was caught in the middle of a storm, with thunder crashing all around him.
And....he couldn't help feeling a bit lonely. Right away, he'd set out to be as unpleasant as possible, but now....watching Misao and Watanuki chattering quietly to each other, and hearing Hori occasionnally pass comment to Gai made him acutely aware of how silent and alone he was.
But then again....no one in their right mind would want to be close to a man who shoved his hand through the chest of the one he loved, and took over the job of killing people for a living.

Hori smiled quietly to herself with an idea... she slowed ,slightly, her stepping .. Making the group slowly overtake her... She started to level up with Subaru and She opened her mouth to speak ..
" Whats up Mister Grump ?" she asked with a playful smile ..

Subaru started as Hori spoke to him.....and there was no doubt that she's been speaking to him, as no one else in the group could qualify to be a 'Mister Grump'. He hadn't even noticed Hori dropping back level with him.
"Nothing....nothing at all. Why do you ask?" He said evenly. His voice was uncaring, although he found himself hoping that this wouldn't be the end of the conversation.

" You just seemed ... a little out of it .. Thats all " She smiled " You know ... You might be grumpy and all but You're still cool .... If anything bothering you .. tell me ... and I'll see how I can help,ok, Ne?"

Subaru blinked, staring at Hori in disbleief.
"You think I'm cool? And wait, how do you know when I'm 'out of it'? You barely know me. And perhaps that's how it should be." He finally responded, looking away to hide his expression.

" Maybe , but ... I dont care for destiny or fate . .or whatever .. it is called.. " She gave a small smile .. " I just dont want you feeling out of this group ... I chose everyone for a reason ... and We need everyone to work together ... "

Subaru stared at her sceptcally, resisting the urge to scoff.
"And why exactly did you choose me? A one eyed assassin, who's had his whole life intertwined with the destiny that you don't care about! I don't want to take part in this game, or work as a team with you all, because all that will happen is that I'll get attached to you, and then you'll all die! Just like Karen, and Hinoto....Sorata and...and...and Kamui....."
Subaru found his voice catching on the last name, and he looked away, trying to hide the burning tears that were rising in his dark eye.

She listened carefully ... and understanding ... " We all come from diferent worlds ... And I dont know perfectly what situation you are in ... But I know that I've already got a bounty on my head thats why I was dragged into this ... So its more than likely that I'm gonna die anyway- even if we get out ..." she looked at him with a small understanding ..." I chose you upon intuition ... even before I saw you " she said kindly ... " and everyone here is able to take care of themselves.... and I wont let anyone die..l said it before ... Its everyone out .. or we all die trying ... "

Subaru stiffened, and he whirled round, glaring at Hori.
"Just shut up! You didn't listen to a word I said, did you? I don't want anyone to die! I've already lost too many people! I won't let myself get close to anyone, because they'll just leave me! You get it now, Miss High And Mighty Hori?! Everyone out, or we all die trying....you sicken me. You may think you're being inspirational....but really you're just being selfish and sentencing everyone here to die with you."
Turning his head away, Subaru increased his speed, leaving Hori behind.
"You know, Hori, you almost got me going there. You reminded me of a young amber eyed boy I used to know, who wanted nothing more than to protect his friends. But you'll never even be worth comparing to him."

She watched with no expression as she was shouted at ... and watched with no expression as Subaru stormed off ...
She had no clue how she was being ' Miss High And Mighty ' .. Or 'selfish ' ... But she knew she was young ... and knew Subaru had a lot more knowlage of things ... and had a lot more experience...
She would let him cool off .. and apologize later...
On the outside... she was cool and calm ... But inside .. she just wanted to cry ....She wasnt as tough as many people thought ..

There was a crash, and Touya fell through the darkness. Suddenly, there was light below him, and his legs cracked as he landed on his feet. Touya winced; his right ankle was sprained. As he looked up, his eyes adjusted to the sunlight, and in shock took a step backward; wincing again. He didn't realize there were other people here.. all staring at his appearance. He glanced at the scarlet-eyed girl, then at the others. He cleared his throat to speak. "Erm...where am I?"

Watanuki listened quietly to Subaru and Hori's conversation, while looking around for a white rock. A white rock she says..
Suddenly, a darkhaired teenager landed in front of them.
Erm...where am I?
"Gyaaa! what the hell??" Watanuki backed away quickly from shock. Gawd, I should be used to this by now!
He let out a breath. "You're in the forests of Gaia...I'm sure Hori-san can explain more."

Misao was stepping carfully over branches while keeping an eye out for glimpses of white between the trees. when suddenly someone landed in front of her.
Erm.. Where am I?
"Ack! she yelped while stepping backwards in surprise tripping on a branch and landing on her butt "Ouch!" She yelped louder

touya limped forward, and held out his hand to the girl.
"I'm Kinomoto Touya...and why the hell are we here?"
Then Touya looked at the boy's expression and smirked.

She took his hand getting up. "Apparently we were selected for a 'game'" she said while brushing herself off "I'm Misao and that looks like it hurts" pointing at his ankle

Gai just inwardly sighed as the fun and games continued. This was a serious situation and the only solution was COURAGE! Courage can make even 1% into 100% chance of VICTORY! Luckily, the GS-Ride which powered his cybernetic parts was connected on a fundamental level with Galeon and the Gao machines, allowing him to call them if they were needed. During the walk he had decided that they were undoubtedly somewhere on this unusual plane, for he had been fighting the Primevals as GaoGaiGar when he had been summoned.
"Ah, I see another has joined our 'little' crew."

Subaru hardly spared the new arrival a glance, only choosing to send him one of his patent glares that he had become so famous for in these last few years. Leaning back against a tree, he lit another cigarette and breathed in, calmly slipping into a restful state of meditation almost out of habit.
He'd let the others handle the newbie for now.

Hori saw Touya land and blinked ... She plastered on a smile and went to greet him ...
" Ohayo Touya-san !" She said ... " I'm Hori .... And it is nice of you to join us .. "

Touya nodded at Hori....and arched his eyebrows at the man who glared at him. To Misao he said, "I'll be fine."Â To no body in particular he said,"I see...and Im here for this "game", because of what?"

"Because you were chosen by Hori-san." replied Watanuki, still carefully observing the dark-haired teenager. He held out a hand to him.
"I'm Watanuki Kimihiro."

Touya shook the boy's hand..firmly. He reminded him of someone..someone very close to him....then another pang from his ankle shot through him, and he awakened from his thoughts..and yet again grimaced. He looked up, and asked Hori, "What are we doing then just standing here?"

" I dunno ... " she said ... " Have you sprained your ankle ? " she asked

Subaru glanced up at Hori's question, and he studied Touya's ankle, taking in the swollen joint. Sighing, he pushed himself upright from the tree and walked over, crouching down in front of the dark haired man. Drawing out an ofuda paper, he laid it over the damaged area, beginning to chant under his breath.
The ofuda glowed before dissolving, and Subaru stepped back, looking away.
"There - that should do it. I've been experimenting with various healing spells, and this should sort out your ankle." Stepping away and back to his tree, Subaru refused to look at Touya, his eyes purposely looking somewhere else.
"You won't hold us up now."

She blinked and smiled as Subaru Healed Touya's ankle .. " better?" she asked

Touya eyes had widened as his ankle had healed right before his eyes. "Yes, its alot better...Thanks..." But all the while, he had wondered why the man had avoided eye contact with him...

Watanuki watched Subaru heal Touya's ankle, his eyes widening in amazement.
"That's magic, isn't it?"
Perhaps he knows Yuuko-san?

Misao watched in amazement and had a confused look on her face
nobody in she knew could make things heal instantly

Hmph he thought. So be it. Touya shook his thoughts off, and walked nearby to and odd looking white rock and sat on it. And surveyed the others in mild amusement. "What have I done to deserve this?" he mumbled under his breath.

Touya looked at Misao, and followed her arm..to himself...sitting on a..white rock? And looked at her and said "Why are you looking at me like that? Stuttering? Or is it this rock here that your so focused on?"

Subaru rolled his eyes, all trace of the nice person he'd appeared to be quickly fading away.
"We're looking at the stone, not you. It's what we had to find. Then we could await further instructions for this game we're stuck in." He said coldly, dropping his cigarette to the floor and stamping it out.
Going over to the dark haired man and pushing him out of the way, Subaru knelt in front of the white stone, eyeing it warily. Sensing nothing wrong with it, he reached out and lightly traced his fingers over it.
And cried out hoarsely as a million images passed across his eyes.
Karen's grave, with Aoki's flowers on it.......

"No...no more....please, I can't stand it!" Subaru begged, hands over his eyes. And then he was falling, sinking into merciful darkness as his body collapsed unconscious to the ground.

Touya his anger at first flared when the man had pushed him aside.But then...  "No...no more....please, I can't stand it!" As the man's eyed had widened and as he slumped down and lost conciousness, Touya picked him up, and layed him under the dark shadowy tree and turned to the others. "What is this?! This isnt right! Just for a damn game!" He raged. And he glared at anyone who thought different

" Subaru-san ... " she said looking over too his unconsious body ...and then to Touya...
" Its not them you should be angry at ... " She said calmly ... " Tarukane is the one to blame... And me to an extent... " She trailed off...

Touya angrily tried to regain his breath. He looked at Hori straight in the eye. And then...wait..was it a flicker of guilt he had seen?
"How many more, or going to end up like this?  You may say everyone will be safe, but how can you know? How can you tell??"
He then lifted up Subaru's unconcious body, and said "Lets get going then. We shouldnt spend any more time nessecary in one place then we need to"

" Wait ... We cant go yet.. we need instructions " She paused " I cannot Garuntee anyones safety ... Every one will be targeted.. and In this game of Survival we need to help each other appropriatly ... "
But what about me ? That will be a hard one to help in ... Tarukane will not let me off as easially as a mass memory flash ...
She suddenly felt a burning sensation within her palm ... " I must be getting a cold .... " She mumbled to no one in particular ...
She shot out a small plume of fire into the atmosphere .. To her relief - the pain subsided .. and to her suprise - It started to write words in the air...
' Go to the ' red waterfall ' on the cliff side ... Somethig will wait for you there

" Well then" Touya said, "We got our instructions so lets get going!" And started walking at a fast pace.

Watanuki stood quietly, trying his hardest not to freak out.
WHAT THE HECK?! FIRST THAT GUY WAS OVER THERE EXAMINING THE ROCK, AND THE NEXT THING HE'S LAYING HERE UNCONSCIOUS!
The next thing was seeing words in the air, as if some spirit was writing them. Mouth dropping in shock, he turned around and waddled after them.
This "game" is getting wierder and wierder...gaah!

Misao stood there in shock for a while after the fainting and the writting in the air.  Then she noticed the group leaving without her. She ran to catch up.Â

Subaru moaned faintly, shifting as he regained consciousness. He had a vague sensation of being carried by someone, but that didn't make any sense to him. Not now....maybe back when he was fighting the Dragons of the Earth, one of his team-mates would have picked him up and taken him back to the mansion, but surely no one would now....especially with the way he'd been acting towards everybody.
Dark eye and milky one fluttering open together, he gave another groan as needles of sunshine seemed to pass into his mind, and promptly shut them again, falling back into restful darkness. And then he heard the voice.
Subaru.....Subaru Sumeragi.....
What?
Subaru....I need an inside player in this game....someone to inform me of when things don't go to plan.

Subaru stared into the darkness, dimly making out the figure of a man. Then, the form changed, swirls of magic surrounding it, until to Subaru's confused gaze, it had turned into someone very familiar to him.
Seishirou?!
Perhaps...it all depends on whether you'll trust me or not. Will you do what I have asked of you?
Seishirou...I'm so sorry that I killed you....I never wanted....

And with that, Subaru tumbled even deeper into unconsciousness. Not hearing the cackle of a voice different from the one that had spoken, it's soft tones twisted into an audible sneer.

Hori looked to the ground ... all the people she had taken into this game ... She heard the gentle rushing of water ... As she stepped forward it grew into a roar .. The sound of a water fall ... .. She looked up ... and jogged to the lining of trees... As she pushed through them ... A glimps of red was seen ...
" The Red Waterfall .. " she said... pushing her way through the bushes... .. only to be greeted by the sound of crunching bones and the small off blood...
She looked down .. She wasnt stepping on anything ... She looked behind at everyones questioning faces ... And then looked forward...
" The something that is meeting us ... oh **** " She swore loudly ... as she made out the lanky - torn up figure of what looked like a wolf...
" A Balverine !" She yelled .... " Everyone...RUN ! " She yelled as it burst through the trees towards the group and Herself...

Touya saw, but could not register the scene he had taken with his brain. He saw the wolf like figure, and ran. He ran, but was slowed down by the weight of Subaru. Dammit! he cursed. Why wouldnt he wake up? "I better get some thanks for this..at least if I get pass this" he mumbled.

Subaru's eyes blinked open, and he frowned as he took in the scene around him. Ok...so maybe I didn't imagine being carried like this.
Suddenly, he became aware that everyone was running, and that people - especially that Watanuki kid - were screaming. Twisting his head round to see, his eyes widened as he took in the huge wolf like creature behind them.
"Yeesh, aren't any of you strong enough to take that thing on?" He yelled, rolling his eyes.

She turned and shot a blast ... It scorched some fur but not much ...
" By the time we've almost killed it ... We would have been bitten."

Subaru rolled his eyes, although he was aware that he didn't look too threatening himself hoisted over Touya's shoulder the way he was.
"So? Someone gets bitten. Big deal. I'm sure a healing spell will seal the wound in no time." He snorted.

" God Sakes !" She said ... " If you get bitten - You'll turn into one ... " She said ..." And I dont think any of us want that ! "........
She stopped .. Waiting for the Balverine to catch up ... and then she lifted her bo-staff - wacking the beast in the head and then making a very quick retreat...

"Remind me never to heal your ankle again if you sprain it......oh, and to hurt you as soon as we're not running for our lives." He scowled. His mood hadn't been improved from his encounter with the man in his dream. Plus, he had finally worked out who Touya reminded him of....a mixture of both a younger Seishirou and Kamui.
Great.....he couldn't have been a mix of two people less close to me?!
"And for God's sake, someone think of a plan to stop that thing chasing us! We can't keep running, or it'll wear us out!"

" I'm working on it !" Hori yelled back at Subaru ... Aiming her Bo-staff once again ... And making another blow to its head ...

Shocked at his own development, Touya said, "Well I wasnt either!" But let's hope that our informant will come quickly before any more of these...things show up.

" Ano ... " she walked around the Balverine ... " Its frozen ... " she poked it .. It was still warm ... " But alive . " She draw her Katana .. " I'm gonna do this quickly and then we will have to go back to the water fall... "

Subaru's head jerked up as he realised that Hori was going kill the Balverine, and he quickly darted in between her and the frozen monster.
"No! Hori, you can't kill the Tarukane's monster!" He yelled, his arms outstretched. "I mean, as long as he stays frozen, it'll be ok, and...and..." Great, now what? I can't exactly say that I won't let her because I'm on the Tarukane's side! He thought helplessly to himself.

Hori looked at him ... ' something is the matter with him ' She thought ... but didnt make it known ..
" But it will unfreeze eventually .. and if it discovers that we are in the visinity when it happenes then We will be in trouble ... " She took slow steps towards him ... getting closer and closer with every word untill they were face to face ... " Dont you think , .. I have the strange feeling that you wouldnt want to be bitten by one ... " She raised an eyebrow questionably ... " ne ? so .. out of my way ... "
She side stepped ... positioning the katana and making a quick slice across the balverines skull ..
' I dont like the way he's acting .. not one bit .. he wouldnt have even bothered before he was knocked out .. now hes acting too strangly .. '

Subaru winced when Hori's katana sliced through the Balverine's skull, somehow feeling the Tarukane's disappointment mentally. Glaring at Hori, he said in his coldest voice yet.
"Whatever. Why don't you just lead us to your sorry waterfall? And maybe you can do us all a favour, and just die there. I'm sure the Tarukane would be happy to release everyone from this world if you weren't around." He spat nastily.

She contemplated swearing perfously at him .. but decided that it was wrong too .. might just cause civil war .
" Oh get over yourself..." she mumbled quietly .. But then .. she thought ... It possible could be true .. These people were only here because Tarukane wanted revenge on her ..
She started walking again along with the group ... watching the sky slowly start to turn the dusky shades of red and orange ... .. Once again she stepped through the bushes that disguised the water fall- now blood red from the colouration of the sky , tie-dyeing it all different shades...
" Does everyone want to camp here ? " She looked around the group .. " We have a source of fresh water ... " she pointed to the waterfall and the lake leading off it ..
As everyone agreed .. Hori voluntered herself to go and forage for firewood... She mumbled her excuse and started walking away ...
"Whatever. Why don't you just lead us to your sorry waterfall? And maybe you can do us all a favour, and just die there. I'm sure the Tarukane would be happy to release everyone from this world if you weren't around."
It echoed through her mind... once out of sight .. she lent against a tree .. head in hands...
Why was it that sentance that hurt her the most ?
" Stupid rhetorical question ... Of course .. It would be a lot easier to die and let these people get on with their lives...But would you have the weakest heart .. and give up ? or would you do the right thing ?"
She let out a slight chuckle .. " Since when have you ever done the right thing ... Lets not start now eh ? "

Touya watched silently as Hori had walked off to gather the firewood. He then glared at Subaru who was just standing there. He walked up to him and said quietly, "You stepped over the line. What's wrong with you? Ever since you woke up, your different. Without Hori we'd probably still be back at that tree!"

Subaru almost chose to ignore him, and lit up a cigarette, but the angry face on Touya told Subaru that the other man would not be ignored.
"We owe her nothing. If it hadn't been for her choosing us, we would never have been sucked into this world at all. And she hasn't once told us why the Tarukane's making her play this game of his....for all we know, Hori's the bad guy here, and it's really the Tarukane who we should trust!" He snapped, before tensing slightly as he realised what else Touya had said.

"Don't be foolish. I'm not different at all. I just want to get out of here so that I can track down my latest target and dispose of them. Being the Sakurazukamori isn't fun and games, you know."

"Touya said this in a quiet tone, not wanting anyone else to hear. Although he was getting some curious looks from the rest of the group. He looked at Subaru....he had seen the man tense up. It was small, but Touya still saw it. He then walked away from him as he saw Hori coming back from the woods.

Hori casually walked back to camp - Her arms full of firewood that she had collected ...
She was so wrapped up in her thoughts ... she wasnt looking where she was going ...
Suddenly .. she found herself... soaking wet... waist deep in icy cold water..
She shot up .. gasping at the freezing temperature...
Her thought shot to the wood that was now drifting away and, grabbing an armful, proceeded to get out of the water - fast.

Seeing Hori walking towards them dripping wet and shivering, Subaru felt torn. He had sworn loyalty to the Tarukane...but seeing Hori so cold roused his pity, and he found himself shrugging off his white trenchcoat. It was true what he had said before to Hori....her personality reminded him of Kamui sometimes, and he had always felt rather protective when it came to the younger boy.
"Here." He said softly, taking the wood from her and draping his coat over her shoulders. "I'll go start a fire. You need to warm up."

Subaru winced guiltily at her words, each apologetic sentence feeling like the stab of a knife to his heart. How could she be apologising to him? Him, who was betraying her even as she spoke, filing information away for the Tarukane to use?

At her smile, Subaru turned away, biting his lip.
"Don't thank me yet." He said bitterly, striding away to start the fire.

Touya watched Hori and Subaru carefully, and sighed. He then turned to the rest of the group who looked pale and exhausted. Especially Watanuki. He walked over and sat next to him. "You okay?"

Watanuki jerked away from him...from the others. This place was too wierd, way too wierd. Even wierder that Yuuko!
He looked at Hori and Subaru..they seemed to be getting along more. And there weren't any spirits coming after him..
He sighed, frowning..

He saw Watanuki jerk away from him. He got up again and walked over to the only tree by the waterfall. He sat down and sighed. He tried hard not to fall asleep, but slowly, his eyelids were getting heavy, and his head against the trunk of the tree, he fell asleep.

Hori Made her way to the fire... The one Subaru had lit with the perviously wet firewood...
She sat by it ... The coat trailing behind her...And stared into the flames...
They started to dance and swirl... dangerously .... but she still stared...
' Why? .. Why is Subaru acting like this ? Its so strange ... ' She was pulled out of her thoughts by a nasty memory floating by ...
" I'm sorry ... But Its my job now... " ....
" NO ! ... Please !"

She stared at the floor ...

"Hori?" Subaru asked softly, watching her from where he sat leaning against a nearby tree, his arms wrapped around himself for warmth. Since he'd let Hori keep his coat, he was only wearing his turtleneck now, and he had to admit, he had been warmer.
"Hori/" He called again. "Are you...alright?" He asked uncertainly.

Hori jumped at the second calling of her name ... It had only been a mumble before... She looked up and whiped the tears from her eyes.. .She turned to see who was calling ... Subaru ...
" .. Why wouldnt I be ?" She asked.. smiling to the best of her ability .. Then she noticed ... how cold HE was ... " Your freezing arnt you ...?" She asked... Taking the coat off from around her and ... Standing up to walk to him ... " Put this back on ... And come sit by the fire... Its warmist there ... " She said ... a slight waver in her voice..

Taking the coat silently, Subaru got to his feet and slowly followed Hori back to the fire, noticing the tears still in her eyes, and the slight waver in her voice.
"Hori? It's not what I said to you earlier, is it? Because....because I didn't mean it like that...I just didn't like it when you killed that creature..." He said uncertainly.

" No .. Its not that ... " She said... " Not .. that .. at all .... " She sat back at the fire... Trying so hard to keep it in ... trying so hard .. not to break down ... Not infront of Subaru ... On her own it was ok ... but not now ..
She tried to fight it .. but with no avail ..

Subaru bit his lip, not sure of what to do anymore. After his meeting with the Tarukane Or was it really Seishirou? I'm so confused...., he had been all set to betray Hori. But this afternoon, he found a well of protective feelings that he hadn't even known he had for the younger girl. Feelings he hadn't felt since he'd fought alongside Kamui way back in 1999.....feelings that he had had no need for as he took over Seishirou's job as the Sakurazukamori assassin.
"Hori....why don't you just do yourself a favour and tell me? I know from experience how much it hurts to hide things inside of yourself." He whispered.

" I .. cant ... " She whispered... " It hurts soo much ... " She bit her lip .. trying so hard... But it was there ... a lump in her throat that wouldnt so easily go away ...

Subaru closed his eyes, waiting for Hori to pluck up the courage to tell him. A part of him wondered whether it would be anything useful to tell the Tarukane....whilst the other felt sickened by his own lack of morals, and simply wanted to help. The two sides continued to fight, until Subaru felt vaguely suicidal.
Hmm...would the voices stop if I attacked myself? He wondered absently, before realising that Hori was finally ready to talk, and had begun to explain.....

" I was.... very small ... Please... dont think any less of me... " She said.. looking at the ground ... and to the flames...
" I was forced into doing something .. that I didnt want to do .. I was forced into .. being an assasin ... And I went ... and I killed... many people ..... Many innocents ... and anybody who got in my way ... " She let out a small sob...
" I didnt want to do it .. I tried to resist in the first place... but eventually just gave up trying to ... And I let myself do it ... I didnt stop it ...And now ... That is why Tarukane is after me ... He wants to kill me ... because I .. killed his lover... "
She let out another small sob ... Tears flowing freely down her cheeks

Subaru choked slightly, staring at the crying girl next to him. He'd had no idea that Hori had been an assassin.....the admittance had caught him off guard. Turning to face the fire, he swallowed hard, before saying neutrally.
"There are no such people as 'innocents', in any world. Everyone has their guilty little secrets. And there will always be people left hurt at the end...seeking revenge. Granted, not many pull you into a twisted game of theirs, but most will harbour a deep hatred for the one who took the life of their loved one away from them."
Pausing, Subaru smiled bitterly for a moment, remembering how furious he had been after Seishirou had killed Hokuto, and how he had become a Dragon of Heaven almost for the sole purpose of being able to fight his nemesis.
"You shouldn't weep for those that you've killed, Hori. It's better just to let it become a part of your life. Trust me, I know." He said softly.

" I do trust you ... with my heart " She said... Whiping her tears away ... What Subaru had said .. made a lot of sence to her... .. She reached out to the fire... placing her hand inside.. It didnt burn her... She was deeply affiliated with it ... She didnt feel out of place...
"But Subaru ... " She whiped more tears away ... " How can I do that ? "
She found the strength to look up at him ...

Subaru shrugged, watching as Hori let the flames lick over her flesh.
"The only way assassins like us can do. Ignore the part of you that's telling you to stop, and just carry on....ignore any feelings of guilt or pity, and just give yourself over to the job. Emotions are useless when you're an assassin." He murmured. Suddenly inspired, he turned back to face Hori again, a faraway look in his eye.
"Hori, do you know why the petals of the sakura tree are pink?" He asked.

She nodded at his answer .. ... She looked at the fire... thinking why would the question be relevant to this ..
" Can I have a wild stab in the dark ? ... " she asked... " Blood ?" She said ... pulling her hand out from the flames..

Subaru smiled sadly at her, his eyes shadowed.
"That's right. The corpses of the dead are buried underneath them, and after a while, the petals absorb the blood offering and become tinted. That's one part of my job...to feed the Sakura trees.....to give them blood.....that's why I'm the Sakurazukamori. Your job was to do as you were told, and you achieved that. "
Standing up, Subaru stretched, and looked down at Hori.
"Just remember that. Good night Hori. I'm just going on a short walk." And with that, he strode away, needing time to think about what he really wanted to do.

Suddenly ... she felt a wave of tiredness flow over her... She looked around and found a seemingly comfy place to sleep ... Under a tree... She settled herself down and pulled her hands inside her sleaves.. wrapping them around her... She closed her eyes
" The Sakura trees... " She repeated... It was a greusom image .. but .. it made perfect sence to her... ....
And with that ... She slipt into a dark dream .. comprehending all that Subaru had said and taught her ...

Watanuki leaned back against a tree, exhausted. Yuuko-san...
He closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep before..
a sudden rustle was heard. Watanuki's eyes snapped open, jumping up. "W-what was that?"

Hori turned over and sat up at Watanuki's comment .. " Whats up ?" She said sleepily .

W-what was that "Mmph" Touya grunted. He opened his eyes and found himself under a tree. He looked around for the voice. Watanuki of course. He stood up and stretched. "Whats wrong?"

Watanuki cautiously approached the where he heard the rustle, his heart thumping wildly inside his chest.
The rustle was heard again, coming from the bushes. Watanuki's eyes widened, slowly reaching out to push back the leaves.
He looked behind it. "....ah?"
Watanuki turned around, a confused look on his face. "there's nothing there...GWAH!"
His confused look quickly turned to shock. Shadows suddenly jerked alive from the bushes, binding him tightly.

This would be difficult to do ... as Watanuki was in the midst ...
She half panicked ... but jumped forwards...If only she could get it away from Watanuki ..

"Hori.." Touya said quietly. "i don't know if it will work, but do you want me to try what I did on the Balverine a couple of hours ago? There are a lot of sticks here..."

" Please... " She said , half frantically.. " Hurry !" She tossed him a stick ...

Touya grabbed the stick in mid air. A split second later it glowed....blue? Touya didn't have anytime to think. He went as close as he dared, and thew it as hard as he could. The shadows disappeared immediatly. He then realized he was breathing hard and sweating. "There.." He muttered.

" Brilliant !" She said.. Dropping her katana and rushing forwards... " WATANUKI !" She caught him as his body fell ...
" Hey .. You ok ?" She asked...

Misao got up during the commotion just in time to see shadows get Watanuki. Then in a wirlwind of events Touya turend a stick blue and made the shadows go away.
Misao walked over to Wanatuki "Are you ok?" then shouting over her shoulder at Touya "Man that was COOL!"
Then she saw him fall into a slump.

Touya felt lightheaded. Â The physical part of his body wasn't at all tired. His mental state was what was exhausted. Â Darkness closed around him. Â The last thing he saw was Hori who had caught Watanuki and asked him if he was alright. Â Thump Â
She was ment to be with him...

Subaru ran through the trees, panting slightly as he came to a stop, leaning against a tree. There was a rustle nearby, and he jumped a vague mist appeared in front of him, before solidifying into the shadowy form of a featureless man.
"You did it then? You cast the shadow spell as I requested?"
Subaru looked away, a bitter expression on his face as he nodded, staring hatefully down at his hands.
"Yes, Tarukane-san. I did as asked. However, Touya beat back my shaodws with his empowered stick, thus saving Watanuki. Already they are tied closely through friendship. It will take more to destroy them." Subaru replied, bowing his head slightly in respect, although it was really another way to avoid looking at his 'master'. Tears of self-hatred dripped from his eyes, and he flinched as the dark form turned his head to look at him.
"Be at peace, Subaru-kun. Everything you do for me makes you one-step closer to giving you redemption...to wiping clean the fact that you killed me."
Subaru bit his lip, nodding in acceptance of the facts.
"Of course, Tarukane-san. I will continue to do as asked."
"Go back to your comrades and act as though nothing has happened. Behave as though you never launched this attack. Naive as they are, they will trust you."
Gritting his teeth, Subaru turned to go, his expression stony as he faced the path ahead.
"I...I won't fail you."

Hori Handed Touya over to Misao and went scouting for more of these ' shadows' Just in case...
She looked around , tiptoeing quietly through the forest... a rustle in the bushes startled her on her right side... She Jumped on it ... Katana positioned the the throat

Subaru froze, blinking down at the katana so dangerously close to his neck, before turning his gaze calmly to Hori.
"Do you plan on cutting my throat, or are we just standing here like this for the fun of it?" He asked dryly, side-stepping around the blade and moving forward to join the main group again, hands in his pockets. Turning his eyes to the unconscious form of Touya, and the shaken looks on the others' faces, he feigned surprise, looking back at Hori.
"What on earth happened here?!"

" Sorry ... " She said... Removing the blade and sheathing it.
" We were attacked by a shadow ... " She said... " It just jumped out at Watanuki .. Luckily ... Touya-san worked his magic and the Shadow disppersed " She smiled " Now He's unconsious .. "

Touya groaned. His head was throbbing..not to mention every other single muscle in his body was aching just as much. He heard a faint mumbling over him. That didn't matter. He was at home right now..on the couch..that would probably Sakura and his father.....

Misao was fanning Touya hoping that he would come to soon.
She heard him groan and she said lightly to him
"Wake up please something isn't right here"

Wake up please something isn't right here It was barely over a whisper, but Touya still heard it. It gave him enough to realize that he was not indeed at his house. And it wasnt Sakura and his father. He felt a light breeze over him. He gingerly opened his eyes, and saw Misao fanning him. His vision had become blurry. He blinked twice and sat up...only to be down on the ground again. His head was throbbing still, but the pain in his body had subsided a little. He looked up at her and mumbled, "What happened...."

"Well, shadows started attacking Watanuki here, you turned a stick blue and shot some of the blue stuff at it, which was cool by the way, and you fainted...remember now?" she said

Touya sighed, and once again tried to stand up..and again failed.. "What the hell? Why can't I stand up?!?"

" You might just be out of energy ... " She smiled... " I think you are using Spirit energy to do these things .. And when you start out doing this ... You are really only allowed to do it once or twice a day .. and then you have to sleep to regain your strength " she explained "... You had a short nap before, ne? You partly recharged it then ... and then used it all up doing a second spell... I think you simply need to recharge "

Touya nodded. "I get it now.....but why can I not get up?" he said angrily

Touya sighed and closed his eyes. Then in an instant, his head throbbed. His world was spinning..... ((soorry bad post))

Touya looked up and saw Hori looking at him worried. He managed a small smile and a nod before closing his eyes against the rough grass. But this time, as he closed his eyes, he saw a figure appearing before him...an evil presence surrounded this...person. He had no clue whatsoever on who it was. Even as he tried to get closer, the man walked away and laughed..a laugh that was so vicious Touya yelled......and once again fell through a world of darkness.

" Touya-kun ..." She said again ... hearing a faint yell from her friend...
She lifted her hand ... a trickle of fire dropping from it and gathering into a small fire ... It was a light gold colour ...
She looked up to the trees... seeing four branches in a square shape abouve and around the group ... She lifted her hand in a sharp curve... Sending four of these to the branches... lighting the outside of the place... Where the shadows were...
She stood up ...

Suddenly a voice from Touya emitted. "Hahahahaha Hori! Are you afraid?? One of your so called friends, aren't on your side. And this one...I might let him...well die." There was a smirk in this voice. This young man has already used his precious energy up trying to save you pathetic fools...and now..this might just sap the rest of his worthless energy out of him. Then what Hori? Hmmm? This game will end rather quickly. You have shown no signs of strength. Im rather ashamed of you Hori. You usually put up a better fight than this!"
With that the voice disappeared, and Touya slumped even deeper into the rough grass. Barely breathing.

Hori just stared at he sky ... taking in all that the message said ... as if to desipher a clue entwined within the words
" Touya-kun...." She said seeing him slump again ... She went to her knees checking his pulse - so faint ... " Touya-kun... !"

Touya felt paralyzed. He felt he didnt even have the energy to lift his finger. He was alive...but barely. Water....Water. he thought. Now if only he could tell that to them..whoever was out there. "water..." His hoarse voice barely above a whisper came out.

Hori .. upon hearing this... she darted to the water fall... and brought a container to the surface. The Steel cup caught the surface and filled with the lifegiving substance..
She lifted up .. boiling it with flames spewing from her hand...
She took the flame away and the water begined to cool ... she rushed back over.. making sure the water was at a drinkable temprature.
Hori lifted Touya's body up into a sitting position .. and then offered the cup to his lips.. letting a trickle in .. and then pouring a slight bit more..
" Touya-kun .. Water... " She said pouring a bit more into his mouth ..

Touya felt the coolness of the water enter his mouth. He sputtered, and coughed. His breathing began to get back to normal. He opened his eyes, dazed by the sunlight. Hori was there, looking very worried. He hated when people looked at him with pity. It made him so guilty. He forced his trembling body to sit straight fully. He breathed in, then said hoarsly, "Thanks Hori."

" Ie... Touya .. " She smiled.. " I'm just glad you are ok ... Dont strain yourself... ok ? "

He muttered, "Im fine! Really!" See, I can stand up...." Only to be pushed back down by Hori. He cocked his head to one side, and said, "Im okay..."

Sweat appeared on his forehead. He slowly rose himself up. He let go of Hori's shoulder. He was shaking and wobbily but he thought he could manage it. He looked at Hori for her opinion.

Touya took the stick. "Thanks" he said again. This time it glowed yellow. "NOW WHAT!!" he yelled. It transformed into real crutches....Touya was shocked.

Subaru shivered as the voice echoed round the small group, hoping that none of the other could hear the way his heart thundered guiltily at the words. If one of them realised he was working for the Tarukane....he wasn't sure what he'd do. Or even if there was anything he could do.
Sitting down besides Touya and Hori, he sighed and bowed his head, before turning to look at Hori.
"You look tired. Perhaps you should take a brief nap, Hori-san?" He suggested, being careful to add the honorific to her name this time. If he could just distance himself from her and the others again....
If he could only retreat back into the emotionless shell of the Sakurazukamori.....

" Hori-san ?" She asked... " what happened to Hori ?" she smiled..
Suddenly a yawn seeped through her ... she covered her mouth ... " But .. alas... You are right .. I'm tired... "

Subaru smiled painfully as she smiled so trustingly at him, before letting his eyes slide away, unable to face her anymore. Turning his gaze to the dark haired man lying down on the other side of the girl, he flinched slightly at the watchful expression he found there, briefly wondering if perhaps he was not as unsuspicious as he had hoped.
How far can my love take me into the darkness? How far will I allow myself to go to make the guilt go away?
And will I just replace that guilt with something more?

Touya turned his head sideways and looked at Subaru. Had he seen guilt? It was only for a second but he had sworn he had seen it. He stared at him a bit longer before Subaru, a little unnerved it seemed to Touya, and looked away. He sighed and closed his tired eyes.

Subaru gritted his teeth, staring down at his hands as Touya closed his eyes and Hori turned away from him, most likely to ponder their next course of action. He felt slightly sick to his stomach, the optimism and gentleness from his teenage youth springing up inside of him once more, as if making a last ditch attempt to turn him away from this path...one that he had started out on as soon as Hokuto had been killed. From onmyoji to avenger....from avenger to Dragon Of Heaven....from Dragon to Sakuazukamori. And now, a betrayer of trust.
How did my life turn out this way?
Feeling a sudden overwhelming urge to confess, he turned to look at Hori, heart thundering in his chest.
"H..Hori? Can I speak to you a moment?"

They came to a secluded-ish area and She stopped ..

Taking a deep breath, Subaru opened his mouth to speak, but found himself voiceless, his throat constricting from fear. He couldn't remember ever feeling like this....so guilty...so nervous. Closing his mouth, he tried again, only to suffer the same thing again.
I can do this, I can do this. I'm Sumeragi Subaru, 13th descendent of the Sumeragi Clan. And I'm the Sakurazukamori, for Kami's sake!

"It....It's nothing, Hori. I'm sorry for troubling you like that." He finished softly.

Subaru stared at her, heart pounding as he struggled to form the words.

Baka! What are you trying to do! If you tell her, do you really think she'll just forgive and forget?! She'll kill you, just as she killed my lover all that time ago! The voice of the Tarukane suddenly thundered in his head, and Subaru winced, slapping a hand to his temple.
"It's nothing Hori! Just let it go!" He yelled, backing away from her and turning to go back to the group.

Touya felt Hori get up on the other side of him from the crunch of the grass. He opened his eyes in time to hear Subaru yell It's nothing Hori! Just let it go!, He blinked and stood up, a little shakily. He looked around and his sight fell upon Subaru, who looked shaken up quite a bit.

Seeing Touya stand up, Subaru ground to a halt, watching the other man carefully. Then, finding no threat coming from Touya, he sighed and dropped into a sitting position, letting his head fall down into his hands.
"I can't cope with this....I just want to get out of here.....at least back home I didn't need to spend time with people. They could never get close." He mumbled.

Touya's eyes softened a little as he saw Subaru slump to the ground, his head cradled in his arms. He walked over and said "Hey..you wanna talk?"

"No, Touya-san.....Tarukane would be mad......and so would you. You all would be.....did you know, you look so much like someone I used to know.....so long ago now...."
Lifting weary eyes to Touya, Subaru smiled bitterly, his expression pained.
"I let both of them die, you know. But to make up for it......I just can't deal with this anymore. I yelled at Hori too....kami-sama, I hate myself. It would all just be better if Hokuto had been the one to survive - not me." He mumbled.

Subaru started, his sleepiness rapidly leaving him as he suddenly realised what he had been mumbling about. Damnit! But....it wouldn't hurt to tell him who he looked like at least......
Turning to look properly at Touya, his bitter smile turned into a soft, sad one, and he shrugged his shoulders gently.
"Like a mixture of Kamui and a younger Seishirou-san.....I loved them both, you know. And I let both of them die. I should have done more to protect Kamui.......he died because I didn't fulfill my duty as a Dragon of Heaven. And Seishirou-san....."
Subaru sighed, turning pained eyes to the heavens, as though both eyes could see the beautiful sight up above.
"....And Seishirou-san died by my hand."

" DONT GIVE ME YOUR FOUL EXCUSES ! " She swore loudly at the invisible entity ... " YOU LEAVE HIM ALONE !" Her voice turned sour and sharp ... " YOU TOUCH HIM AGAIN ! I'll... I'LL KILL YOU !"
It was all comming out ... all the anger... an Inferno raged around her.. blazing with red and black flames ... temperatures soaring ... but she didnt care .. It couldnt hurt her... - Black smoke bellowed into the sky ... darkening the morning sunrise...
' And how will you do that ? ' It spiked.. ' You cant even see me ! '
" I'll FIND AWAY! " she yelled back ... tears flowing from her eyes... and as they left her cheeks .. they evaporated...
" And .. I'll hurt you more than you could ever imagine... " she pointed at the sky ... " I know you , your games .. your tricks .. and now your lies... .. " The fire crept down to blue and green flames...

Subaru stiffened, a wave of hurt washing over him, shaking his head at Touya's words.
"So you knew, huh? You knew all along..." He whispered disbelievingly. Shuddering slightly, Subaru turned to look at Touya, his single green eye gazing into Touya's own dark ones.
"But one thing you'll never know....is why I chose this path. Why I'm betraying Hori, you and the others...." Sighing, he got to his feet, beginning to slowly pull an ofuda from his trenchcoat.
"I thought that by refusing to tell Hori, I'd avoid this....but now that someone knows, I can no longer act as the Tarukane's informant. So I must go." His face became deadly serious, and he held the ofuda in front of his face, his hurt expression turning to one of sadness.
"And I can't let you stand in my way. So just be a good boy and let me put you to sleep....."

Touya's face went into a mixture of surpise, hurt, and then finally anger. He stumbled up. "Sorry, Subaru, Im not going down. I have a sister back home whom I have to take care of. He took hold of another stick and it turned bright orange. Touya got ready for the contact, bracing himself..........

Subaru frowned, slightly irked by the other man's determination.
"Don't be stupid, Touya-san! It isn't permanent! You'll wake up in a couple of hours time, good as new! You'll even have pleasant dreams! So just let me do this! Drop the stick!"
Flicking the ofuda so that it hovered in the air before him, Subaru moved his hands into a Sumeragi prayer position that he hadn't used in a long time, and began to chant, willing this to work so that he could escape and get back to the Tarukane.
"On sowah anba shuda saraba tamara sowah anba sudo kan. On tatagyato dohanbaya sowaka. On handobo dohanbaya sowaka. Onbazora dohanbaya sowaka.....onbarodaya sowaka!"

Touya grimaced. He felt an odd sensation occuring to his body. He felt tired..so weary..Just close your eyes and go to sleep a voice said. "Yeah...his eyes were so heavy..." Dont go to sleep! You cannot go to sleep! WAKE UP Touya yelled "ARGH" as his body jerked up again.

Subaru frowned at Touya's struggling, pouring more of his magical energies into the spell until he felt the other man's consciousness slipping away from him. Moving forward a step, he carried on chanting even as those dark eyes flickered shut, still moving tentatively forward until he was less than a metre away from Touya.
Maintaing his chant, he suddenly snapped his leg around in an arced kick, sending the glowing stick out of his comrade's hands and harmlessly to the ground, watching in dull satisfaction as Touya finally sank to the ground, overwhelmed by the spell.
I'm sorry.....my friend.

She set off at full speed towards the group again ... She couldnt let anything happen to Anyone there... If it did .. she wouldnt forgive herself... ever..

Vauge chanting was heard ahead of her- confusing her
She skidded out of the bushes... Stopping herself at a near by tree...
" SUBARU !" her voice was full of hurt ... looking at the scene she gasped..
" TOUYA !" She ran over to him ... kneeling by his sleeping body . Cheaking his pulse, she sighed, steady beating.
Subaru was no where to be seen ... But she could still smell him .. the rancid smell of betrayal and guilt ...
"Subaru showed remorse.... guilt ... Touya .. did you see that do .. were you able to figure it out aswell ? " Her voice became shaky ... as tears flowed down her cheeks .. Staining her clothes with wet patches .. She felt so cold..
But this time... Subaru wouldnt be there to offer his warmth ... His coat to her...
" I should never had started this ... then people wouldnt get hurt ..."
She cried like she had never cried ...
Betrayal ...

Shivering violently, Subaru ran into the forest, his breathing ragged and short as he went deeper and deeper in, the shadows cast by the surrounding trees becoming more ominous as he grew closer to the centre.
Rushing into a clearing, he sank to his knees, tears of angry frustration leaking from his mismatched eyes as the dark entity appeared before him, lifitng his head to look at him.
Why.....why did you leave? You were supposed to be my source of information. The figure spoke, his voice calm and docile, yet with an edge of danger to it.
"Touya-san found out....and I'm sure Hori knew something was up.....they figured me out, Tarukane-san....they realised I betrayed them....." A sharp stinging feeling suddenly erupted in his cheek, and Subaru found himself knocked to the floor as the Tarukane struck him viciously.
Fool. What use are you to me now? How will you ever gain your redemption? Subaru gasped as the figure blurred, and a single tear crept down his face as he stared into a set of intense eyes - one startling amber and the other a milky white.
"Seishirou-san...."
You were the one who made me lose my eye, Subaru-kun. You were the one who killed me. And now you deny me my revenge on that girl? Now you deny me the chance to kill her in this little game of mine?!
Subaru shook his head frantically, eyes wide with denial.
"No! I....I can still be of use to you, please! I'm still an onmyouji....and I'm still the Sakurazukamori! Remember, I'm stronger than before! I mastered your killing skills! I can help, I swear it...." His voice trailed away, hitching in silent sobs as a gentle hand rested on his head, memories of a time when he was an innocent 16 year old returning to him.
Hush, Subaru-kun.....you may serve me as my own assassin if you wish to redeem yourself. Forget the government that once asked you to kill for them. Now there is only me, and all I ask of you is your loyalty....and devotion. The Tarukane's deep voice soothed, and Subaru found himself nodding, spurred on by the weight of his guilty conscience.
"I...I swear it. I won't be torn anymore. I'll....I'll act completely for you." He murmured, before being swallowed by the shadows as they removed him, taking him into the darkness that he had teetered at the edge of for so long.
So Hori.....it's assassin against assassin. You made the wrong choice when you summoned such a tainted, shattered soul for our game. Will your comrades be able to face me when the time comes? Will you be able to withstand the power of my new onmyouji and I?

Hori felt a heavey pang on her heart ... She was confused... Something had happened .. every thing had changed...
It was a whole new game...
Hori frowned... one word drones through her head ' Subaru '.. over and over...
" Whats happened to him... ?... Subaru "
She felt so empty all of a sudden... Like if her best friend had been talken from her...
Little did she know how right that would be ..

Subaru found himself floating, adrift in a sea of darkness that as far as he could see, had no end. Discovering that he was able to shift in the silky shadows, he rolled onto his stomach, glancing around himself in bewilderment at the strange scenery. But before he could pass comment, the liquid substance suddenly solidified, and he dropped to his feet, gazing uncertainly around in the darkness.
"Tarukane-san....?" He called, his voice outwardly calm, despite his own confused turmoil inside. Silence was his only answer, and he began to fumble in his pocket for an ofuda to set light to, when a presence suddenly surrounded him, covering him in its oily black aura.
Hush, Subaru. You have nothing to fear.......welcome to your new home.....it's yours until you help me defeat Hori and the others.....then you may return home or stay....but remember - this place is of your own making. It reflects your soul, and what is truly in it. All I did was mirror what was in your heart.
The aura faded away, and Subaru blinked as the lighting rose ever so slightly, allowing him enough light to see. Silently, he walked to the nearest wall and placed his hand on one of the cracked shards of glass that made it up.....watching passively as the heat from his hand was rapidly lost to the cool surface, which greedily accepted it.
He briefly wondered whther Touya had woken up yet from his spell - it should be wearing off soon, if not now......but that thought remained distant, and he instead chose to focus on more important things....
Such as hands through chests.

Touya felt a breeze pass over him. He achingly opened his eyes. But...that was it. No pain...no nothing. He stood up....easily. Touya then spotted Hori kneeling beside a tree. He walked over to her. "Hori...."

Hori just cried...
" Its all gone wrong .. every thing ... DAMMIT !" she hit the tree - making a dent in it

Touya, a little shocked at the dent that Hori made, widened his eyes. He sat next to Hori, and let her continue.

" Tarukae...- I'll kill him! ... I really will ! ... THIS IS OUR FIGHT and HE PLAYS DIRTY ! .. BRINGING PEOPLE I CARE ABOUT INTO SOMETHING LIKE THIS !"
Her knees gave way to her... she fell to the ground.. crying

Watanuki looked around, finding himself....alone.
"Dammit! I finally manage to get some sleep, but when I do, they leave me??"
He gets up, scowling as he saw nothing but grass before him. Where are you all..? This wasn't normal. He could sense them nearby, but no matter how far he walked, there was only grass...

"Hori...Hori please don't cry.." Touya whispered. Before he knew what he was doing, he pulled Hori into a hug, patting her reasurringly.

" .. why ,.... " She sobbed ... " Why ! ..." ... Excepting the hug .... An Ache appeared - setting into her chest ...
Suddenly she stopped ... Looking up ..." I have to get everyone out of here ... This is all my fault .. I brought you all into this !" She whiped the tars from her face... giving a sniff ...
Suddenly she felt a ki ... She turned to see Watanuki ... " ah ..." She tried to make herself stop crying...
" Watanuki-kun .."

Someone was calling him. Hori-san?
He spun around, only seeing grass. Dammit! I'm trapped in some kind of magic! ...Where are you?
It was getting dark. He was already on the edge of having a nervous breakdown, hearing a howl not far away only made it worse.

Hori got up... He obviousy hadnt heard her or he couldnt see her
.." watanuki-kun..." She said.." Over here..."

He could hear Hori, but everything was dark.
"Doko-desuka...? Where are you..?"
He saw a dark figure far away. Is that Hori-san? The figure's shape surely didn't seem like it was a form of a girl.

Hori started to make her way over To Watanuki...
" Watanuki-san? "...

A sudden touch on Watanuki's shoulder made the boy gasp in surprise, adrenaline boiling and forcing his body to act subconsciously. Then hearing a girl's cry, his eyes widened and turned towards the source of the sound, finding himself looking down at Hori, who was now crumpled on the ground from the pain he had inflicted upon her.
"Hori-san!" Watanuki knelt down, his eyes brimming with worry. "I'm so sorry! Daijobu desuka?"

" a... Daijoubou desu" .. She smiled softly, flexing her fingers to make sure they still worked ok.. They tingled with pain as they did... " They still work " She smiled brightly...
" What about you ?"She asked gently whilst getting up, supporting herself with her un-semi-frazzled hand.

"I-I'm fine." stuttered Watanuki. He blinked hard, surprised by the fact that he could see now, when earlier it had seemed like he was blind. He looked around nervously...the strange shape he had seen earlier was gone...
Shivering, he then turned and bent down to support Hori; helping her up gently.
"Where are the others?"

" Touya is there... " She pointed to Touya who was watching over the situation...
" The others," She paused.... "........... Subaru.......went.. of ... "

Touya, with a strained look on his face, ran over to Hori and Watanuki. He heard Hori struggling to find the right words to answer the situation of Subaru. "Subaru won't be coming back." Touya said, cutting in for Hori.

Hori cringed at the words.... Saying it would make it all so much more real...
"...... yer..." ... She mumbled her thanks to Touya..." thanks.."
She held herself back from any sort of outburst...... Maybe staying emotionless would help ...
maybe it wouldnt... She didnt know...
She sighed deeply.. eyes cast to the ground...

Touya calmly led Watanuki back to the rest of the group. He handed him his jacket and then he came back to Hori. He gently put his hand on her shoulder. "Would you like to talk?"

She sighed and turned to Touya.......Looking up at him witha strained and painful smile...
" I'm fine.... There's nothing I can talk about .. even if I do want to ". she cast her eyes down...
She paused ..
" Listen ".. She looked back up... " If something happens to me... Go on with out me.. and You lead the group...."...
She waited for a reaction... " Ok?"

Touya was startled and very taken aback. "What? What are you talking about Hori?! Don't say that. Nothing's going to happen to you. And if it does, we..." Touya turned his head and pointed to the rest of the group, "We'll all be here for you."

She watched his suprised face....
" I brought you all into this... and I intend to get you all out...... " She spoke hushed... but firmly
" but .... My intentions dont mean anything at this moment...as a person cannot be defined with what they intended.. or was going to do..... But only what they have done...... If I cant do it.... and something happenes.. I need to know that You can take over... and Do what I couldnt....... .. " .. Her seriousness fluttered away.. and she broke into a smile.. " It is ONLY and IF though! ... Its not like, Its Imperitve it will happen... But.... ".
She paused in an awquard silence.
" I cant garuntee anything....... Tarukane..he has already played dirty.. and I expect him to again....... "....
Tarukane had found her weak spot.. and she was terrified....

Touya looked her straight in the eye. He really didn't know what to say. Instead, he gave her a small smile, and pulled her into a hug. Then, "I can't promise you I'll take over. But I will promise you whatever you face, all of us here will be with you; helping you out.

Hori smiled and hugged back...
" .. Thank you... Touya..."
As she broke away she could only smile...
"SOO !... .. I dunno about you.. but I'm STARVING !... Lets go Fishing ! " She punched her hand into the air and skipped off to find a nice fishy for her goup to eat.

An amused smile came to Touya's lips as he watched Hori skip along. He went and followed her just incase anything happened.

She took out her Katana.. and perched at the edge of teh river... Waiting silent and unmoving she knelt.....

Touya leaned back against the trees silently, his arms arcross his chest. He wearily eyed a stick on the ground and thought before of the energy he loss. He made up his mind to use it if danger came. But we're FISHING...nothing could happen here...

Hori watched teh calm water... silently she raised her katana... Then Swooped it down upon one of teh now struggling fish...... " ha !"She brought it out, twas quite a large fish... probably enough for a small portion each.
Hori lay it on the ground then went back to her previous stance....

Touya had to stiffle a silent laugh. He watched her as she transfered back into her orignal pose.

Hori waited for another fish to come along... Silent and still..

Touya sat down on the grass and leaned his head on a nearby tree, slowly drifting on and off.

Hidden away in the darkness of his lair, Subaru closed his eyes as if in pain, hearing the voice of the Tarukane whispering soft plans in his ear, unwilling to let such an opportunity pass. Bringing out an ofuda, Subaru cleared his mind of all emotion and stared into the mirror showing an image of Hori fishing, beginning to chant under his breath.
Feeling the spark of magic that was his spell releasing, Subaru stepped back, a shadowed look crossing his face as he watched the water in front of Hori start to churn menacingly.
For the Tarukane...

Her eyes widened as the crystal blue water started to move infront of her, Changing her still reflection into a smirl of blood red.
She stood up quickly and stepped back her eyes looking up at the slowly rising Waterspout infront of her...
" RUN !" She screamed out loudly, hopefully the sleeping group would be awakened in time. She turned, Grabbed Touya's arm and dragged him along with her..

Touya, half sleeping, jerked awake at the sound of Hori's scream. He stumbled as Hori dragged him along. "What the??" He twisted his head to see the once cerulean blue water into a fiery red. Something looked like it was going to pop outta there....

Hori turned to look for a second, it started to swell and spit. She turned her head to Touya...
" Carry on ahead, I'll slow whatever it is .. " She slowed and turned to watch the waterspout rise further into the sky.....

"What? You're insane, I'm not leaving you by yourself here!" Touya turned around and got poised, ready for anything.....

Hori watched his face, seeing no signs of backing down.. She sighed.. " Fine, Do as you wish .." She turned once again to face the extending swirl of red rising into the sky..

Touya grimaced as a huge bear like thing came advancing at them. With no sane thought in his head, he rushed at the creature.
