Title: Pokemon
Post by: Cardcaptor Takato on July 08 2005, 07:31 am: Since we have a Digimon thread, why not a Pokemon thread? I admit that I used to like Pokemon back when it first came on. I remember when it was aired on Fox early on the weekday mornings while I had to go to school, so I had to tape it every day to watch it. Then, Pokemon moved to the Kid's WB and for a while I couldn't watch it because I didn't get the WB at the time, but eventually I got the WB and I happily started watching it again. I really liked the older episodes and the movies. While the Pokemon have always been the stars of the show, the older episodes focused more on the human characters and there was actually some character development. Granted, it was very slow development, but it was there and I liked the love/hate relationship Ash and Misty had. Then, the show got to the Johto Journeys and it became nothing but sucky filler-ins and focused too much on the Pokemon and not enough on the human characters.

I still watched it every once and a while whenever Kid's WB showed reruns on weekday afternoons out of boredom, but when they got to Advanced Generation I just gave up on it. I missed seeing Misty and Brock wasn't his usual flirty self anymore that made him such a funny character. No matter how many times he flirted with Nurse Joy or Officer Jenny, I never got tired of watching Brock doing it. It wasn't the same without Team Rocket's older Pokemon, who I always loved to death, and I hated the new characters, Max and May. They really annoyed me, especially in the episode where you met their family for the first time. I still like to watch the movies, though. The movies seem to have better storylines and animation than the TV show. If only the series could be produced with the same kind of quality....Anyway, are there any Pokemon fans or former Pokemon fans out there?

I started to watch it and liked it, (being a younger elementary school kid :heh: ). Then Pokemon was temporarily banned due to the incident in which lightning effect of an episode caused many children to get sick. Then after a while, they aired it back on, making sure nothing of previous incident will happen again. That's wehre my memory gets fuzzy. I know watched it after it came out, but I think I stopped soon after they added more Pokemons to the original existing ones. I didn't like the new Pokemons, and I stopped watching it.

Now I can't even stand watching an episode.... I could stand a movie, but not an episode... I even forgot what the original names of the characters were...

Anyway, use to be in love with the show, spend many dollars on merchandise and such. The first few seasons were okay, I liked the former trio, and how they use to get to know each other. Also use to like it when I could actually remember the pokemon when the amount were under 100. Whatever happen to the good old pokemons? Anyway, when Johto League came around and that kid named Tracy joined in, I gave up on it. Didn't like it much. The movies are okay though, they seem understandable. The cliches are really bad though, and especially in the dub. I can't stand Team Rocket in the dub, dont know why, just dont.

Advanced isnt that bad I guess, just watched the few episodes really. May is tolerable, its her little know it all brother that drives me up the wall. Why is he even in the show? Does he make a difference except make Brock's ears a little bigger due to the abuse? Did he get private lessons from Misty? -_-

Don't watch it much anymore, maybe on a blue moon, the show is getting repetitive, and my anime prefences has changed in the years, I dont find little monsters beating the crap out of each other cool anymore.

If you guys recall how cool pokemon was in the 1990's? Holy shit! Man, everyone had pokemon cards, if you didn't you were a cheap nerd who needed one! I remember I had bloody 700 cards, I'm serious XD I even had over 20 t-shirts of pokemon, and all the games, on gameboy! After I left the fandom, I sold all of my stuff, got a wopping $800 dollars back from the stuff I bought XD Cept, I got the games still. The game never gets old ^^

I stil have some cards and tons of small Pokemon dolls in a wooden box I made in craft class in 5th grade... I haven't opened that box in a while...
I never did understand the cards though... I don't even remember how I have them... I just liked the pictures :XD:

I still don't know why I still own the cards though..I think they are totally pointless..the only TCG game I know is Yugioh.

I watched all the seasons, even the new ones without Misty. I own all the movies (yes, even the newest one) too...

But I'm not that crazy over it anymore. The movies are still pretty good though. The 1st one made me cry when I was younger, and the Entei one was just plain sweet.

Thanks for the links. Oh... wasn't Mew (151) the last one of the original character before new ones were added? I remember Mew being one of the rarest Pokemon... (I still remember the movie with Mew and Mewtoo... Mew was so cute in there :XD:)

I hate that episode.... that's one episdoe I will never watch again. I never knew watching TV could make you sick until that episode :dodge:

Plus, every episode is similar to each other. I like to play the video game on Game Boy Color. But, thats it. I still think pokemon are cute. Like, the old school ones. Yesh. And some of the newest ones, but not all of them.

So I moved on, lol. XD
My favourite pokemon were ninetails, umbreon, and arcanine^^
I had nightmares from the episode about the ghastly. Where Brock was, er, hypnotized I guess. And that ghastly was taking control of him by appearing as a beautiful woman. But that was so long ago, when I was 8 or 9 ^^.

Pokemon is very addictive, I remember I use to memorize what pokemon Ash, erm, Satoshi caught, and then I would also memorize battle tactics, not to mention, I once tried to memorize Brock's pickup lines. Odd though, since, I'm well, a girl. *I was a scary child -_-*

Misty, erm, Kasumi is a really complex character, I really liked her. May...erm, Harumi *I think* is okay too, even though the reason she is there is because of the competions, right? Does she even have that much development? I haven't really watched that much of the new seasons :dodge:

I also heard Satoshi and Harumi...whatever, May, are like really close or something, as if they are a couple. I dont really dwell into the fandom much, since its, well, scary the fans eat each other alive, its frightening :tongue3: So is it true? Or is it just a figment of those Harumi fans imagination?

My least favourite character, in all of Pokemon, is Matt and Tarcy [shouts a string of profanities] I cant stand the idol worshippers of that Professer! *screams* They act so bloody smart, more for Matt though, they bug the people that have some problems, um, its more Matt though, and yeah, just can't stand them. They also have barely any character development, and are just there, to block the veiw or something, so annoying! *curses*

Funny, I thought Misty and Ash were a couple...in movie 2, she says;
"Ash is never alone, because he's got...me." And they were always denying that they liked each other that way, kinda getting paranoid about it, LOL.

I kinda liked Tracy...the only reason I disliked him at the start was because he replaced the immortal Brock.....who's Matt again? Is that May's little brother?

but i stopped a while ago. lolz it was getting too old and yea just didn't like it anymore. i think i stopped watching it in either grade 6 or 7. it still aires here in toronto. i watch it at times and then walk away to go somewhere else. it's just weird.

i really like pokemon back then. hehe. and i agree with those who said they like the original trio. misty is awesome.. i don't know the jap names. hehe

the movies were really good too. i watched until the 4th movie.

i use to know most of the pokemon in order.. the original 150. hehe. xD i even got this pokemon book talking about them. haha

who is matt too?? i don't remember him.. uh i think. tracy was ok. i didn't hate him or anything though. at first i was like 'who's that?' because i missed the episode of where he left. but then i saw the episode of when he came back.

pokemon started getting really confusing to me because i kept on missing the show and i just gave up watching it from there on. i mean like why did misty leave the group?? i saw the beginning of pokemon advance.. but i missed the episode of when misty left. and i want to know why!!!!! haha and i saw in a magazine that misty comes back.. like for 2 episodes.. and i wanted to see it but never watched it on tv. xP hehe

i love misty and ash together. i always thought that they would end up together in the end.. guess i was wrong. -_- *sigh

yea i use too memorize the pokemon list before too.. blah i even memorized the pokemon songs before. you know the ones they play after the show.. where they're naming the pokemon.. and almost everyone i knew memorzied the same one.. LMAO!! it was one with mew-two lolz

They didn't leave together, did they? I was under the impression that the trio was together, then Brock left and Tracy arrived, Tracy left and Brock came back, making the trio complete again, and then Misty left, being replaced with May and Max.

I don't think both Misty and Brock left the series at the same time...not at any point.

it was first brock and then tracy met up with ash and misty.. then brock came back and tracy stayed with the professor.. then misty left for some reason and then ash and brock met may and max.

It's been a while since I've seen the episode where she left and I only saw it once, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason why Misy Left (spoiler alerts ahead) was because her sisters were going away for like some sort of tour and she had to go back to the Ceruelean (or however you spell it) Gym to be the official gym trainer while they were gone. I also heard about Misty making a cameo appearance in Advanced Generation and I always wanted to see that episode, but I gave up on watching Pokemon before it was aired (that is, if it even aired yet in the U.S. yet).

That was cute. Oh, and I had a lot of Pokemon cards. It's odd, though, considering that I already lost interest in Pokemon, and I still didn't sell the cards. x3

Loads of copies too....I was the type of idiot who didn't wnat to give up their cards to trade for something else, because they had 'souls' and had helped her win games in the past. Sigh.....

But I also have couple cards that are called "Get Cards".... they don't seem to be game cards though..... and then there is set of cards I got from candy box... they still smell sweet, weird :sweatdrop:

I don't think I'll ever be able to sell my small set of cards and the little figures of pokemon. I stlil think those pokemon are really cute. I have this figure of Mew that's about an inch high and it's so cute :XD:

I honestly have no idea. I dont have any memory of how on earth I got all those cards... except for the candy box ones.

I had more than 100 cards, believe it or not. I use to watch the movie commericals, and they said there was cards of pokemon in the movies, so I use to buy them, and then put them in these little plastic pocket holders, and yeah, it was hilarious. No one could touch it, and I usually bought the special kinds, the ones that were all shiny :XD:

I was such a...erm, Pokenerd XD [/corny]

not true! XD I used to play pokemon too. I would always be totodile, my friend always wanted to be mewtwo or pikachu.

Maybe he also remembered how Ash, Misty and Brock found him as Charmander and took him to the pokecentre.....

Same here....people were fighting over the cards too much, so they stopped people from bringint he stuff in. But my friend used to bring in his gameboy, and he'd let me play the games on it.

But my friends and I were just as obsessed as the boys.....and we knew a lot more. I rememeber in the first movie, the male friend who brought in his gameboy said that Ash had caught all 150 pokemon in the movie, after he saw the advert with Ash walking out of the smoke with all those pokemon.

We took great pleasure in pointing out why that couldn't happen.

One of my female friends was convinced that Diamond was another horse pokemon, after seeing the description on Ponyta's card that its hooves were harder than diamonds........it took me forever to make her understand the truth. LOL
