I've always had a passion for Japan, and grew up watching some of the dubbed *urgh* stuff on TV.

My daughter started watching anime and manga quite a while back, and got me into Cardcaptor Sakura and Sonic X. After that, I guess I just went manga/anime crazy.
Anime and Manga fulfills something in my soul I guess.
It's just something about the culture of Japan that speaks to me.

Agrro's Cartoon Connection..?? ^^ and after that after looking around on net I found out that it was an anime.. Of course.. after that I didn't reallyget to watch more because we were moving around so much .. but the first anime after coming back to australia that i watched was.. low and behold ... Cardcaptors! [yes the dubbed version -_-;;] It was pretty good but when i found out that the manga and the japanese version was bettef I started hating the dubbed version.. ^^ umm... ta da! :D

Ani - I got started with sailormoon as well!

I remember watching dubbed Sailormoon, and my sister and I were making fun of it since the voice acting was AWFUL. The voices were all pitched WAYY too high, it was really awful!!  All the voice actors (except for Mamoru) were screeching.

buuut, we got hooked on the story anyway, and just kept the volume down to protect our ears. :D

And that was... lemme think, around 10 years ago..

I found out about anime through Sailor Moon.  I first saw it when I was on vacation in the Gulf Shores one year but I didn't know what it was at the time.  All I knew was that it was the strangest cartoon I had ever seen in my life.  Eventually I forgot about it later on in the day (I had watched it on the TV in the hotel room early in the morning while waiting to leave) until a summer later when USA Network started airing some TV show called Sailor Moon.  Out of curiosity, I checked out the first episode the day it premiered and was hooked ever since.  Eventually I realized that this was the weird show I had watched a year ago on vacation, so I did a search on the Internet for Sailor Moon and discovered it was Japanese animation.  I eventually learned about all the differences between the dub and Japanese version, then I started watching the original.  I also started watching other anime and collecting manga and I've been hooked ever since.  It's been eight years since then now.

My older cousins gve me the first volume of CCS out of the blue on my 10th birthday, and after changing schools , I saw some other girl reading manga, and we started reccomending other anime and manga to each other...

I love reading manga but my parents aren't that happy about it, for some reason

I liked things like Cardcaptors, Pokemon and Digimon...then I realised they were all from Japan! So when Ant and Dec (2 UK presenters) went to Japan, I fell in love with the country and started looking into other Japanese cartoons.

Most of my current fav anime I simply fell in love with from episode guides and character bios. (Naruto and Inuyasha for example)

As for manga...I bought the CCS and Yugioh ones at first to compare them to the programmes, and went on from there.

I had heard about this character called Sailor Moon.  One day, while shopping, I saw a little girl's pair of sneakers for sale, and it had Sailor Moon on it.  I thought, "There goes that Sailor Moon thing again.  WELL, during this time, Cartoon Network was showing Sailor Moon on TV, so one day I sat down to LOOK at it.  I was looking at " The Doom Tree" arch of Sailor Moon. But I realized that  the stories did not end in just 25 minutes.  They continued on and on... well, I was interested to find out what was going to happen the next day, and the day after that  until I learned that ANIME is not a "cartoon." Well, after I learned about Sailor Moon, CCS and others followed. Now,... I LOVE ANIME!!!!!

It came into my life from watching Pokemon with my brother. ^-^ That's what got me interested in anime at all. But I didn't know it was anime until my brother said it was. I looked up anime on the internet and.. then my interest of various others came along soon after. Like watching Cardcaptors, Sailor Moon and Gundam Wing on Cartoon Network.  :keke:

I remeber looking through some Dragon ball z comics when I was very young, then when I went to France my cousins were mad Sailor Moon fans and they had a huge Sailor Moon poster up on their bedroom wall. However the amin thing which got me into Anime was when Pokemon and Digimon came onto TV.

It all started when my sisters and I would watch Sailor Moon in the mornings. I was probably only 6 or 7. At the time, I didn't even know that it was anime. I didn't even know what anime was!

Then it came to Pokemon, of course... And after that was Cardcaptors. Eek. The dubbed version. *shudder* After going on Cardcaptors websites, I saw the light and discovered the real Cardcaptor Sakura. Then I was introduced to Clamp (one of the many important events in my life :haha:) and from there it was smooth sailing in the wonderful anime and manga world...

And yes, I've gotten over 18 people hooked on anime, and they gotten other people hooked too, and you know what, Guy's realy like Sailor Moon. I have Ghost in the Shell, and they asked for Sailor Moon when they come over.

Another Sailor Moon convert here.

My sister came home from a friend's house talking about this cartoon she'd watched, and asked my grandma to tape more episodes (since we didn't have cable at the time). So my grandma taped some - the first episode I watched was the one where the creepy fat cat has a crush on Luna... and I was watching it and listening to the horrible voices, thinking - "this is so STUPID." But for some reason I kept watching more, and I got hooked by (amazingly) DiC's censored oh-my-god-he-can't-be-gay "female" Zoicite. (guess I was a yaoi fan from the start, though it took me a few years to realize it. ) After that I started watching SM religiously and then started watching Tenchi as well, getting on the internet to read more about them and realizing there was a huge community of "anime fans" out there. I ordered Sailor Moon S and Stars from a fansub distrubutor and discovered the greatness of Japanese seiyuu, then little by little started buying manga as they became more popular and available, eventually discovering CLAMP with X and Wish... and it all goes downhill from there. ^^ I joined a forum where the owner got me hooked on J-music and I've been obsessed with all things Japan ever since.

I did watch the Moomins and other childrens anime as baby and child, but back then there was just cartoons for me, not 'western cartoons' and 'eastern cartoons'.

Then came pokemon games (Pokemon Blue <3) and soon after that tv show started. That was when I learned what anime was and how it was different from western cartoons. That's when my anime and manga hobby really started.

It's funny, I were something like 11 years old when Pokemon started. Aww, I was so childish back then. And I'm probably still the same.

Go go pokemon, I owe you a big one.

I got introduced to anime when I was hanging out with my friend when I was probably 8, and we were in her basement, flipping through TV channels and we flipped to this cartoon, it was towards the end of the episode, and she shouted "I LOVE THIS SHOW!" and so we watched it.

What I saw was a talking purple cat throwing a little blue pen to a girl with enormous breasts and blue hair and telling her to transform, and then she spinned around in a psychadelic nudity for a ridiculously long time, and then threw bubbles at this thing with a weird face.

When it was done I said "That is probably the stupidest thing I've ever seen."

And then my friend was like, "Well, I like it."

And so to figure out what the attraction was, whenever the show came on when I was home, I would watch it, trying to see what my friend liked about it.

And I totally fell in love with it, so I went online and learned that all of my pet peeves about this show I love were the result of something called "dubbing," and that it was in all truth one of the coolest shows ever created.

I haven't looked back since.

TimeMachine. What show is that!?
by the sounds of it you just didn't like what you saw (dubbing had nothing to do with it)
Dubbing in fact is only a partial reason some people don't like shows (Like saying they prefer the french version of the Simpsons, sometimes it doesn't matter at all)

Well, my story goes just like Meza's.

My first touches in anime were when I was child and in tv there were anime-series like Moomins and we have VHS-cassettes about anime-series like Little Women, Lady Lady etc.

But when I really get interested about anime was when Pokémon tv-program started. It was so cool back ago, ofcourse :P
It was so different than like Disney's movies and I get hooked. Back then I get interested about internet and there I was looking sites about pokemon and here we are.... Huge anime & manga fan :P

Hmm, ever since I was young they always show those novel turned to anime in our local channels. What really hit it off was when I watched Yu Yu Hakusho. That was the craze of our generation when I was 7 or...8? Followed by Magic Knight Rayearth, the such.... Anyway, soon, another local channel showed CCS, all of my classmates liked it, I LOVED it, and the rest is history.

I just watched a lot of cartoons as a kid, and I didn't realise they were anime! Transformers, Moomins and Shinzo were probably my first. Then Pokemon, Digimon, Cardcaptors and YGO came along. I then realised that most of these shows not only had Cards in common, the style was the same too.
I used to draw a lot of Pokemon and Digimon fanart, so I started drawing with that style through them. Then when CC started I realised I didn't like the programme much, but I loved the costumes, so I started researching them on the net.
And here I am. ^^ That was about 6-7years ago?

It was probably from coming home from 1st grade everyday to watch Sailor Moon on UPN. :hehe: Until they cancelled it in 2nd grade. *gasp* 7 years already? Didn't know it was anime back then. I was also obsessed with My neighbor totoro and kiki's delivery service then too.

Then my like of it came back when Pokemon hit the air. I had no clue what it was, accept that it came after what I called "this weird girly show" called Cardcaptors, that I always woke up too late to watch. I kind of regret it, looking back, having missed the "cardcaptors" travesty. Didn't know it was anime then, either. It wasn't until 4th grade when I spotted a book with a familiar title at the library.
Me: Hmm... "cardcaptor sakura"... *reads the back* Hey! She's my age! *grin grin*
And the rest is history.

Lol, it was Sailor Moon. It was the episode where Mercury shows up.

And really what I hated more than the action was the cheezy lines and whiny voices. The irrationality of the images just kind of added to it. It reminded me a lot of Power Rangers, which I had outgrown about a year earlier (but before I outgrew it, I must say, YELLOW RANGER ROCKED!!!)

Of couse, Sailor Moon was my first anime. And like everyone else, I had no idea what it was. I thought it was scary, and that their eyes were too big. Years later, we got german TV-channels on our TV. On RTL2, they showed something called "Moon Toon Zone"(:rotfl:) which showed Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball and Pokémon. With help from that channel, I learned more about what it was, and they started broadcasting more animes there!
And yeah yeah... :heh:

The first anime I saw was Speed Racer, back when I was about three or four. I remember watching it when I was trying to fall asleep in my mom's room, and wondering why the words didn't fit the lip movements perfectly.

I actually didn't get into Sailor Moon when I was little. It just didn't interest me. I love it now, though. XD

The thing that actually got the word "anime" into my vocabulary was Pokemon. I started researching it on the internet and found out that it was an anime, and then Cardcaptors started airing, and I liked that. So, I reached that, and found out that it was also an anime, too.

And then, I started really, really wanting some of the original Cardcaptor Sakura stuff, and one day, my mom and I were at a bookstore, and someone had left the first volume of a CCS manga with the cookbooks (where my mom was looking), and so I got that. And the obsession began...

This is going to be long. ^^;

So, I liked Sailor Moon, Pokemon and Digimon.
And I didn't know that they were anime, just cartoons you know.
*Shudders at my naiveity.*
Anyways, I was 11 years old, and I was flipping through channels.
When I came to Teletoon. I saw this show starting, and it looked familar.
Though I never knew why it was, or when I happened to see it.
So, as you can guess, it was Cardcaptors. :)
And I watched it, got hooked on that episode.
Did some research on the computer... became obsessed.
Watched it, and the rest became history.

Now I'm a crazy anime obsessed otaku fan person. <3

I can't remember what was the first anime I really watched. All I remember was that I liked shows that were anime, but I really didn't know it was anime then. Shows like 'Speed Racer', 'Samurai X', 'Ninku', 'You're Under Arrest' and 'Akazukin ChaCha' were some of the few series that I'd try never to miss.

Then came 'SailorMoon'. I loved it and would buy cards and stickers related to it. But I still never knew it was anime and never knew I had an attraction to these kind of shows.

It wasn't until 'Cardcaptor Sakura' did I realize how much I enjoy anime. When CCS ended, I was distraught and couldn't believe that it ended just like that. So I searched up online and that's when the world of anime opened up to me.

Believe it or not, I never really noted manga's existance until Tsubasa came. I guess I never realized how different the manga and anime can be, (after all I enjoyed both the anime and manga of CCS and always thought that both can be truly enjoyed) so when Tsubasa first came (and since I was obsessed with S+S) I caught up with the manga first and since then have been collecting other types of manga besides CCS and Tsubasa. ^^

Eh, I haven't posted here before. Eh, Sailor Moon seems to be the Gateway Anime of choice. And it was also the first anime I watched. At about the same time I also watched Gundam Wing and Dragon Ball Z, but they weren't nearly as good. Sailor Moon was also the first manga I read- the bad flipped Tokyo Pop translations. I remember how excited I was when I got my SM subbed- so beautiful. After that, my next anime was Evangelion, and it's taken off from there.

I watched Pokemon, of course. Then Sailor Moon, then Toonami. I found some Sailor moon mangas and have been addicted(particularly to shoujo) ever since. While anime on tv was still being heavily censored, the mangas weren't nearly as much and that made me take anime more seriously. I saw CCS dubbed and tolerated it, because it seems like a LOT of animes were just as badly dubbed. I bought CCS subbed and was converted to watching anime subbed only...that is...until Adult Swim came around and translating got better. ^^;

I first started watching Sailor Moon when I was like 10 or 11. I loved it sooo much! I couldn't begin to describe how much I was obsessed with that. :sweatdrop: I collected like everything of that and like never missed an episode. Until I got the internet, I never really knew it was japanese animation. Then on cartoon network, later on, they started showing other shows and I began to like those as well. So Sailor Moon started me off onto this big anime/manga spree.

I remember discovering TRC on some old CCS site. It was odd, because I was wishing and wishing that CLAMP would do a sequel...anything about Syaoran! And so fortune smiled upon me, and Syaoran was a star. Not only that, he was older, making it less creepy that I was obsessed with a character that was originally 11. ^^;
That day I found out was a memorable day, since I had a smile on my face the whole time. ^_^

Well, i begun watching animes when i was very young( 6~7 years old). My first anime was Saint Seiya(Zodiac Knights). It become a HUGE hit, and soon, other tv channels brought animes too, like Magic Knight Rayearth, Dragon Ball and Dragon Quest.
Some years later, animes back to tv again, and i saw series like Rurouni Kenshin, Sakura Card Captors, Medabots, Pokemon and Digimon. But now some animes got censured,(SCC escaped, thanks god ^^)
When i got broadband internet, animes entered deeply on my life and now i have a lot of series on my pc/cds. XD

Hm, I don't really remember when was the first time I saw anime... I think even before 7 years old, I saw Sailor Moon on TV, but didn't know that those big eyed cartoons are called anime. :D Then i remembered, CCS (chinese dubbed) took over the time slot of DBZ after it ended, when I was around 9 years old. Then I started to realise there's such a thing as anime and manga, when I went to a comic store by mistake, and happened to find CCS manga on sale. XD (Histuzen, definetely!) That was the first Manga I bought (book 2, because book 1 was out of stock. :X) and CCS was my first official favourite Anime. The CCS series (chinese dubbed) ended when I was around 10 - 11 years old, and when it was halfway through series 3, another channel aired the english dubbed version. I was so disgusted by the way they dubbed it and even cursed the TV station for airing it.  Then, when I was 13 years old, I found a Tsubasa comic in the comic store (Hitsuzaen again, because I rarely visit comic stores as other anime/manga series don't interest me) and yup... XD And I forgot to mention, my first Tsubasa comic was also BOOK 2, why? Because book 1 was sold out. Again. -_-

I don't exactly remember how I was introduced to manga. I guess I was exposed to anime first. I remember it was the Sailormoon series that attracted me so much and then I began to read the manga version. And then I also began to read those monthly editions that have several different stories in them. :D
