Title: Yaoi And Shonen-Ai
Post by: Ruby Chan on April 16 2005, 07:13 pm: I have to admit, I'm one of those yaoi fangirls. That doesn't mean that I don't like canon, and boy/girl pairings....but it emans I like boy/boy couples too!

I don't really get why people don't like these...what's wrong with yaoi?

well i mean its nice, but i prefer to stick with Shonen-Ai its more lighthearted and nice. plus some of the stories i've heard of them are rather really sweet ^_^ but Yaoi can be alright at times, can't say i like ALL Yaoi tho
(Keep in mind that Yaoi is the more graphic version of Shonen-Ai, just a warning)

Maybe it's because I just don't like the idea of guys having a relationship like that. And like SLi, I also think the natural boy+girl pairing is a much better relationship. Don't get me wrong though cos I don't have anything against yaoi and its fans. I think it really is also a form of art. Not just the type of art I like...Â :keke:

Although, the only yaoi I own is some Gundam SEED doujinshi...The closest thing I have to official yaoi is the first two volumes of Fake, both of which are very hot, although it's shounen-ai and not yaoi. I want the last volume of Fake! Although I don't like how yaoi tends to be plotless which is why I don't like most hentai anime, so I prefer shounen-ai series with the yaoi kinky stuff mixed in it.

Is that why I like yaoi and shonen-ai so much?

I know yaoi is more graphic than shonen-ai, but in a lot of places it's becoming the standard term for boy/boy relationships.

I wrote about gay rights once too. Ever since there's been a controversy about it in North America and Europe, I felt like it was too unfair for them to be unable to adopt children and such.

I'm not much of a Yaoi fangirl, but I do like Shounen-Ai. (One of my favourite shounen-ai couples are Seishirou and Subaru, after all :wink:). Most of the time, I try to avoid yaoi that's way too graphic :sweatdrop:

I have absolutely nothing against gays, lesbians or bisexuals. I have tons of friends who are like that and I love them for who they are, not for what they are. =] I'm even part of a club at my high school called the 'Gay/Straight Alliance' and I love it.

They are treated unfairly and i hate seeing that happening to them. Sure, they're different but were all really the same, they are just different because of their sexuality. I have nothing against people who don't like gays, les, or bi's...its cool with me. Its their opinion. :okay:

And then I make couples - like Kai/Tyson (Beyblade) Tai/Matt (Digimon), Ken/Davis (Digimon)....

I read a lot of fanfics that have yaoi and all I see is just getting those guys together. No story, no plot... just baseless. Which is why I kinda get turned off by yaoi... I mean, if you want to get them together, do it with style!

And without any hentai graphics of course... >.<

while Shounen-Ai and Shoujo-Ai mainly revolves around actual stories and are generally very romantic,
i find these to be much more romantic than your straight couples stories.

But its also weird because its also peodphile -_- Guess everything can't be perfect.

Also, I perfer shonen-ai, because its cute, sort of like Dearka x Yzak, you know they don't exactly have those type of feelings, but its easy to see really.

Yuri...sorta scares me. Maybe because I'm a girl? LOL, I don't know why, I just don't, usually you hardly ever see shoujo-ai, like the Tomoyo x Sakura stuff, its usually all yuri actually, which I find rather disgusting.

But I perfer het pairings to all of these, like SLi said, its the nature of things, and I just perfer it, and well, I like it a little more too. And I'm all for light-hearted things too ^____^

That's the anime series I'm watching right now.

Strange, my favourite seiyuu does voices of main characters in many of the Shonen Ai series'.
Seki Tomokazu does: Shuichi, Touya, Dee in Fake and there are a few more that I can't think of at the moment. He gets a lot of questions about his personal life due to these roles! Ahem..and probably because he isn't married.

Well, his voice is quite a bit higher when he does Shuichi, but when Touya gets annoyed and carries on it sounds very similiar.

^^;;; Maybe we think that, but when you KNOW its not physically possible to be with an anime character, wouldn't you rather see them in a happy relationship with someone else, especially when its a relationship that's extra fun to watch? :lol:

Well, that can happen in other situations too. You could be in love with a girl and not have love returned because she isn't into girls. That's just the way things go.
Personally I believe many 'straight' people could fall in love with either a guy or a girl...
Some people are just too stubborn to admit feelings of attraction to the same gender.

Aw, Tessaiga, we're not jumping on you. I respect your opinions, I guess my point was, you know an anime character is never going to fall in love with you in the first place (well, except those dreams ^^;; ) whatever their preference, so does it make a difference? *shrugs* Well, I've never been in the situation, so maybe I don't know. o_O;

Also, people used to accuse me of being a lesbian when I was in high school. I wasn't really feminine at that time, but I'm wasn't a lesbian. I don't know why, but I just can't get enough of that wonderful fluff! (or other more serious stuff...hey! I rhyme!) I just seem to find the storylines more real than ones for straight couples a lot of the time...especially when it comes to fanfiction. Plus, a lot of the shonen-ai/yaoi stories are very angsty, and that kind of plot attracts me.

I think that is why nature made it that way. Actually it is the same for me if at TRC the pairing for Kurogane is Fay or Tomoyo, so I guess that settles it. :sweatdrop:

KuroFai pairing is nice, though. But for some strange reason I think that Tomoyo Kurogane is ok too. Even so,I am glad that you respect my

So I eventually got into it!! I love it!!So cute and adorable. when it gets too graphic I get a lil uncomfortable but I whatever. Its really addicting. Theres a manga called Yellow that I just love, it was actually the first manga I bought :inlove: can't wait for the next one!

Gravitation I didn't mind so much because it was humerous and I loved the soundtrack! I prefered that they had girls though. :P I wonder what Shuichi would have been like in a relationship with a girl... o0;

It's okay to state an opinion, saying you like or dislike it. It's not okay to say it's gross, sick or perverted. Many people on this forum are gay themselves, and shouldn't have to be offended like that.

It's not the genders of the two that matter but the personalities and interactions between them that make me love a particular couple. Of course, so many of the best couples seem to be homosexual.

And as for those who have made comments about homosexuality being 'against nature'... I myself am a lesbian, and very happy as such. It's not against nature, because homosexuality is -my- nature. Sexual orientation is as much a part of a person as gender is a part of a person, whether you are male or female, straight or gay. I could no more be straight than I could be a man. It just wouldn't feel right for me, any more than being in a gay relationship would be right for a straight person. That's my perspective on the issue. A lot of people never seem to think about it from that view. I'd appreciate it if those of you who are straight and against homosexuality would think about how you would feel if most romantic relationships around you were gay, and if straight relationships were looked down on. That's how it feels for us homosexuals. I am not angry with anyone who disagrees with me and I don't care if I don't change your mind, but I would still like people to consider what I've said.

You were just giving an example and there's nothing wrong with that. You didn't mean it directly. As for yaoi and yuri, or even shounen-ai and shojo-ai I don't particularly care for them. I won't try to persuade anybody, but don't try to persuade me either. That's basically what you all are expecting, so we should all respect each others decisions. We all have free will, and that cannot be changed.

Yeah, I've noticed that, too, Ruby-chan.. In fact, I think that's why I like them more! XD Because if it's a boy/girl relationship, it's usually pretty boring and just the same thing every time...

When it's a boy/boy or girl/girl manga, there is all that angst in the story line, and the character has to accept his or her feelings and he or she has to worry about how others will react, etc. Also, sometimes it turns out the other person isn't also gay or the other person can't accept being gay (In one manga I read one of the two boys killed himself for the way society treated him! It was so sad!!)

If it's a boy/girl thing the storyline is pretty much always just he thinks she's cute, she thinks he's cute, they get together: the end. -_- Boring to Yuki... Either that or it's the age old harem stories... Like Tenchi Muyo.. One guy lives with anywhere from six to thirty girls allll in one house and he has to pick one... Also boring. That's one reason I prefer gay couples to straight ones! XD The stories just seem more mature and complex to me.

Boys and girls interact with each other and with the opposite sex differently, and homosexuals also interact differently than straight people. Not much differently, but differently. That's why so many people have 'gaydar.' (I have a fairly sensitive pair of 'gaydar' myself.) I'd also like to add that, in straight relationships, the rules are fairly set and known, and everybody knows when either partner has a right to be angry because the other person has broken one of the rules. Gay relationships are breaking the rules themselves, so there are no clear, mutually understood rules like in straight relationships. The couple has to make the rules themselves.

Truly depends on what your opinion is. I don't find it interesting, and you couldn't make me find it interesting anymore than I could make you find straight couples interesting.

I think that it's good to have a healthy mix. Even though I enjoyed it, I found Sukisho a little ridiculous since everyone was gay. I know, all boy's school and no women at all still...Well, lots of anime have just all straight pairings so I guess I can't complain...

The Satoshi Daisuke pairing is cute. I haven't seen or read much of DNAngel 'cause I could never get round to it but I was wondering how the Dark/Daisuke pairing would work. I've seen fanfics about them but they're sort of sharing the same body as far as I can tell so...Do they seperate later? I don't really know much about it so I really have no clue.Â :sweatdrop:

yeah .. there are sometimes when things twisted... and are really impossible.. they just dont think about thise little details and make doushinjis..

other taboo couples that i dislike... even they are gay straight or whatever.. are the blood related one.. but i first grade.(brothers.. sisters... brother/sister... mom/son... ) .. really yukk.. like kouichi and his twin brother... err.. i canr remember his name but him..
