Has anybody ever seen this Hayao Miyazaki movie? I loved it so much. Its so heartfelt and just really enjoyable! It reminds me of my childhood. I just actually got around to seeing it a couple of weeks ago on Turner Classic Movies. They were playing all of Miyazaki's movies in January. I just love Miyazaki's movies and I had wanted to see that movie forever. I must admit, it was very cute. I'm looking forward to seeing the japanese version too.
So what do you guys think? :)

I borrowed this off my friend who's part japanese...she'd just been to Japan, and had brought back an authentic, original Totoro DVD....
I loved it! It took a little while getting round the menu (it was all in Japanese), but when I actually got to watching, I found it really heartwarming and funny, if slightly boring in parts. I couldn't decide whether I liked the seiyuu or the voice actors better though....they all did really good jobs.

I love this movie! It's one of my favorites of the movies that Hayao Miyazaki did. I've seen both verisons, japanese (with no subtitles, I was watching it in my Japanese Class in high school) and english. It's enjoyable either way. :D
-
Oh cool everyone! I just loved little Mei. she was so cute because she just acted like a little girl would you know. She would always just run around and explore. She's cute so cute. ^^
-
oh, Totoro, one of my most favorite movies ever! I love the cat bus, and the little dust balls. :keke:
-
I loved the cat bus too! It looks kinda scary though. o_0. Lol. Did you guys know that the special edition dvd is coming out in stores on March 7th?
Here's the link on amazon.com

I just loved this movie! It's so kawaii, and sweet and it's a perfect family movie. Whenever I have a bad day, I watch this movie and it just cheers me up! So adorable. And Mai was so cute to want to bring her mother a present and then her older sister finds her. One of Miyazaki's best!

Saw it for the first time when it aired on Turner Classic Movies in January. Loved it. The Japanese version was perfect but kudos to the English dubbed version...Dakota Fanning did an excellent voice job in it. I'll be picking it up when it hits the stores next month :)
-
^ Neat Arcademan! I'm planning on picking it up as well. I thought the dubbed was pretty good too! I just love Dakota Fanning and she did a pretty good job. Although, I thought that Elle Fanning sounded just a little too mature for Mei's character. Mei is only supposed to be 3 or 4 right? She makes her seem like a little bit older than she is. I don't really know about the Japanese though.

We're watching it again in my Japanese Class.
We saw it last year but the whole class demanded we see it again.
I absolutely LOVE this movie!

Mei's voice in japanese sounds much more childish. The way it's suppose to be. ^^ 'Course, I need to see it again just to make sure (in case I'm wrong).
-
Confirmed. The Japanese voice of Mei's sounds much younger...more befitting the true age of the character (I still have the tape of it from last month  )

i watch this movie long ago. Its a very child friendly anime. Satsukl and Mei's house was part of main attraction of Aichi expo last year. It's a life size replica of the house, not just the exterior but also the interior of the house.
-
^ That's so interesting sanlyn! I would love to tour that house because it was based off Miyazaki's movie. Well of course its the replica but it just still seems so neat!

I just read some news about Satsuki and Mei's house and it stated that it will be reopen on July. It is still located on Aichi prefecture, Morikoro Park. I am very curiouse with the house because every fine details are exactly the same from house decoration to books in the shelves.
here are some details of the news

Wow thanks for sharing that. That's so amazing that they had that many people request tickets. Hopefully I'll be able to go to that when I visit Japan in a few years.

On a slightly related note, today happens to be Dakota Fanning's birthday. She turned 12 today :)
-
Oh yeah that's right. Happy Birthday Dakota! I thought she was turing 12 today.

I LOVE this movie! This was the VERY first anime ((movie or otherwise)) I ever saw. I was three or four and since then I've been OBSESSED with all things Miyazaki!!
I love this movie so much because it reminds me of my childhood and how my friends and I used to play Totoro together at the park... We would look for acorns and wear outfits like Mei and Satsuki's and..
*sniff* Darn it!! Now I'm getting all sentimental!!! *runs away crying*

Aww :huggles Yuki-chan:
I can't blame you Yuki-chan; it is such a wonderful movie. And Miyazaki is one of the best! It's a perfect children's movie, and it is just too kawaii! I seriously need to see it in its Japanese version. I've seen it in English, and I have the option to see it in Japanese; gotta love DVD's, but I'm just too busy, or I keep putting it off!
-
I saw this just a few weeks ago, and I have to say it's one of my favourite movies!
Mei reminds me of my baby cousin, they act exactly alike XD
My Dad bought me a whole box of Miyazaki DVD's back from his buiness trip and I started to watch them all at the same time!
It took a while to figure out how to use the Japanese page, but I got it in the end :tongue3:
-
Totoro! ^_^ I love this movie with all my heart... I cried when Mei ran away. T_T Such a fantastic movie though... *dabs eyes* Good memories...
-
Oh all Miyazaki movies are SO inspirational.
I saw Totoro before I really knew what anime was. I was like "But where's the bad guy?" ^^;
It's Ghibili films that made me wanna become an animator. Although, I am really REALLY pissed off at Disney for acting like it's their work. And at the beginnings to a lot of the DVDs it has this stupid guy in Hawaiian shirt saying how "special" the film is going to be. I mean, duh! Why else would we buy it?! Grrr....
*ahem* Sorry about my rant. I just needed to get that annoyance out.
