Title: Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon
Post by: Shiunu on February 05 2006, 07:46 am: Hi. Anyone like Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon? I literly grew up watching this show. It was my first anime and its what got me into anime. I've been watching it since I was like 10. *sigh* such good memories...

Anyways if you do we can have a discussion here.

My favorite character is Sailor Venus! I used to pretend I was her.Â :lol:

My favorite character is Sailor Uranus - Haruka Tenou...Well, she is kind of boyish character (and I'm tomboy too!) and few years ago (..well..these days too) I almost copy every movements about Haruka. And almost I look like Haruka but my hair color is different just now ^.^; my bad..

I like manga version more than anything else :) then goes anime and then tvliveaction...well, I hate tvlive (prettyguardian sailor moon), it's so much of Bandai's hidden advertisements (example: Sailor Moon uses plastic toys...krah...everything looks so plastic!). And Artemis & Luna...toys..huah..Even "Sabrina the teenage witch" tv-program's Salem cat is more more more more better.

Actually I'm reading the manga and I found it much more interesting than the anime version (but I like more the drawings from the anime).

Oo you should watch the live action though! It's great! It's not all corny like everyone says. Okay maybe a little but the story line is really good. You should try to download it somewhere.

I remember that i used to download episode guide from hitoshi doi's page and even complied all of them together in one folder.
I like the manga version than anime. Manga version is straight to the plot and Naoko sensei's drawing style is so elegance.
I only watch only the special epi of Live action version ( Tuxedo Mask secret and epi 0) so i can't tell if it is good or bad. For me they just ok a lot of fun stuff.
There are also a lot of nice song in the anime. My favorite are opening theme of first four season ( moonlight legend) and closing theme of the first season ( heart moving).

Aww. I actually found a few box sets on cookiejarvideo.com They're bootlegs. Although when I bought them I didn't know they were. I don't have a fast enough internet connection to download them. I didn't wanna buy the officials because they are $60 plus shipping per dvd. So that was the only way I could watch them. The subs are okay sometimes they have some "engrish" in them and sometimes they mess up. But hey, what can I say?

I just remember one day I was watching the 2nd from the last episode of season 1 (that was sad!).

I love the opening theme, Moonlight Densetsu.... I still love it after all those years.

I've seen all 200 epsidoes of the anime, the live action series ep.1-27, 41-49, act 0 and special act, also have 2 of the musicals on DVD (the first final stage and 4th stage SMSupers)

Neat! It seems like Sailor Moon was pretty much everyone's first anime.

But I can't tell you how much merchaindise I had! I had all the character figurines, and trading cards, and folders, and a wall scroll... I lost a bunch of the limbs to the dolls though T_T Now all I have are Sailor Uranus, Chibi Moon, Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury.
Mercury was always my favorite. ^_^

My favourite scouts are Venus, Neptune, Mercury and Uranus!!!!

Yeah I grew up with Sailor Moon as well. =) I only saw the dubbed version until yesterday when I was able to get a hold of the REAL version (i.e. the japanese version) of Sailor Moon. It was soooo good to hear the japanese voices...but I thought that the english dubbed version was fairly good too. Just not as good as the jap version.

My fav character is...hmmmm... Sailor Venus? and maybe Sailor Chibi Moon. I know Sailor Chibi Moon's mean to Usagi at first but I think she's cute when she starts to get use to being around Usagi ^_^

I grew up with SM; as most people have said here, it was the first anime I saw. (Oh, and just so people know, SM came out in 1992; CCS came out in 1997.) My deep and abiding love for the series was renewed this year when I got my hands on the new live-action version and the fifth season of the anime. Teh awesome. I really enjoyed them. The American dub version will always give me nightmares. The original is -so- much better.

My merchandise... hmm. Well, I actually have the ancient card game for the series that was made like ten years ago; never played it, but I do have it. XD. Oh, and I have a Mercury plushie. So cute. (huggles Ami-chan plushie)

Heh, like most other people here, Sailor Moon (dubbed) was my first anime. Although I didn't grow up on it, as I discovered it in high school. (I "grew up" on Disney movies, Rainbow Brite, My Little Pony, and all those wonderful 80s cartoons. XD) I've seen the whole thing dubbed and half subbed, all of the Seramyu minus Marina's stage (other than Ryuusei), and half of the live action. The live-action was... interesting, to say the least. It was horridly cheesy, but was nice in that it had a fresh new take on the storyline, and I liked some of the character development (Mars and Jupiter's actresses I especially liked). But I'm not even going to comment on Sailor Luna.

Then I pretty much became obsessed with Sailor Stars and ignored everything else, and now I've moved past it. I wonder now if I could even go back and watch it, as so many of those 200 episodes were horribly filler-ish, although in an endearing way I suppose... which makes it a classic, I guess. ^^;; Though I think I could watch Stars anytime.

Merchandise? I have so much completely random stuff. I have almost-complete sets of the full-size and 6-inch dolls sold in the US, a Mars plushie, a Seramyu DVD, a pencilboard, a pile of keychains (including Luna who's on my key, and my precious Starlights on my shelf. ^^; ), the Mixx Stars manga, two artbooks, some random stationary, Seramyu trading cards, a Seramyu program flyer, and of course my beloved Starlights doujinshi which I spent loads of money collecting. XD

I always loved Haruka because she was just kick-***. And Mars, for her fire and mystery. I used to love Mercury, but grew to hate her ~~because she reminded me of myself~~ because she was annoying.

I have all five seasons on DVD and am currently in the process of rewatching it all (almost done with R, yay!). I have all the manga except for a couple in the SuperS series, and a little bit of merchandise (I just bought a T-shirt and it makes me soo happy!)

I can't watch PGSM. I watched the first episode, and while I could look past the cheesiness (I mean, come on, the anime was about as cheesy as it can get at times) I was upset over Luna's...representation...(wtf?) and how early they gave Usagi the moon wand...

Really, though, it's just the Luna thing I can't look past. I'll admit I have a horrible lack of tolerance for a different take on a story, but I love Luna...and she's a freaking DOLL in PGSM.

Stars and S are probably my favourite seasons. My favourite characters are probably Hotaru, Haruka, and Mamoru. And of course Usagi, but how could you not love Usagi? ^_~

I was a fan way back in the days of SOS. Anyone remember SOS?

I have a couple CDs, too. And I've always really wanted to watch the Sera Myu Musicals. Anyone here know if they are any good?

I thought that was pretty neat at the time. ^^Â I haven't seen the musicals either. I've heard that they are pretty good though. You have to watch PGSM! It may be a little corny but it is sooo good and really has a great story line!

They posted an article 'proving' that Haruka and Michiru weren't a couple. (stabs self) And the poptarts... Oh, lord, the poptarts. Years and years ago they decided that all of the fans should buy a ton of poptarts on the same day, to show the fans' support for the show. They were full of it, and of themselves. I was so glad when they went down. They never, ever helped the show. Ever.

I ignored all of their petitions. A lot of it was to get Stars dubbed, and keep the dub going, and the dub wasn't very good, so I really didn't care. ^_~

But it's just weird, because back then every single SM fan site had a little SOS banner. It's kind of a fan generation marker. The newer generations of fans don't know it. The banners are gone (and so are a lot of the REALLY good fan sites).

So, am I the only one who really started to enjoy the show because they watched the dub and thought that Tuxedo Mask was incredibly cool, and didn't understand why he was with Sailor Moon. That's why I originally looked the show up online. I loved it, and I wanted to know if the pairing made more sense in the original version (which is does).

Speaking of pairings in the original version, cousins?

LOL. I remember that episode. In both versions. Even before I read the synopsis of that ep online later, I could totally tell they hadn't been brothers in the original.

They really didn't do a good job with the whole "cousin" thing, either. You could really tell that wasn't the nature of their relationship no matter how they tried to cover it up. Personally I think if they hadn't completely destroyed the first two seasons they wouldn't have been pushed into this corner where they had to make the rest of the series "acceptable" to society's standards of what is appropiate for 6 year olds (a corner that completely screwed over any possibility of Stars getting licensed).

Also in SuperS, similiar to Zoicite, they made FishEye a woman, and didn't have to alter any art or anything. Whenever I hear the song "Dude Look Like a Lady" Zoicite and FishEye are the first people to pop into my mind.

Followed immediately by Hugo Weaving in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, but that's kind of off topic.

I agree with the whole bit you said about how they pushed themselves into a corner. But if they'd gone ahead with a more faithful version, I'm sure people would have put up a hullaballoo about it. Maybe the controversy would have made it more popular. Either way, Stars will never make it over here officially dubbed. We just have to put up with fansubs. But there are some pretty good fansubs, actually.

And I saw the uncut version of the SuperS season first, so I knew when I saw the edited version that they hadn't been brothers. It was painfully obvious. All in all, that was a fascinating episode, actually, since it had Fish-Eye 'the girl' tearing off 'her' shirt revealing 'her' flat chest. The amount of editing they did to cover up 'her' flat chest was ridiculous. And they did a crappy job of it as well. And they also did an awful job trying to 'cover up' the nature of Haruka and Michiru's relationship. Three words: Hand. Holding. Scene. Enough said.

And another sex change: they made Zirconia a male in the dubbed version! For no reason!

That really confused me. And ticked me off. The fact that SuperS is the SLOWEST moving of all the seasons is forgivable in the Japanese version due to the coolness of Neherenia, and her depth of character.

By changing Zirconia, a lot of that was taken away, and the little there was to the overly-drawn out plot was ruined. I was ticked.

Any thought on the whole Ali/En thing? A lot of people really hate that arc, because it was created as filler when the decision was made to continue the series (which was only supposed to have 1 season) to give time to Naoko Takeuchi to build more story and start releasing the new manga she was suddenly contracted to continue.

Personally, I kind of like it. It's cheesy, and the plot isn't very complex, but it's sweet, and has a lot of good Usagi/Mamoru moments.

Personally? I like the Ali/En episodes. Like you said, they were cute, and had a lot of good 'Usagi mooning over Mamoru' moments. Tres adorable. And the Moonlight Knight... God, another cheesy incarnation of Mamoru's to squeal over. On a side note, I never got why so many people hated Mamoru. I mean, the guy is a college student who's dating a middle-schooler. That makes it sound a little creepy, but it's love. He puts up with a lot of crap because he loves Usagi.

i thought it was 13. but anyways, when i found out usagi was about 13 when sailor moon started i was like.. WOW! haha. i was amazed and well, slightly confused.

Usagi is 14 in the first season, and as it comes to the last season (Sailor Moon Stars) she ends up 16

oh yeah, that's right. she does say that she's 16 at the end of the series. i totally forgot about that.

episode 200 was something else. usagi not wanting to fight galaxia?! that was something i wouldn't have expected considering that everyone she loved was gone.

Naoko-sensei did care slightly more than the anime company, but not much. Trying to figure out all the timeline inconsistencies and plotholes in SM is an impossible task.

Here's the best most people can figure:

Anime
8th grade (second year of middle school)- first and second season (classic and R)
9th grade (third year of middle school)- third and fourth season (S and Supers)
10th grade (first year of high school)- fifth season (Stars)

Manga
8th grade- (second year of middle school)- first and second story arc (Dark Kingdom and Black Moon)
9th grade- (third year of middle school)- third story arc (Death Busters)
10th grade- (first year of high school)- fourth and fifth story arc (Supers and Stars)

The Codename wa Sailor V manga, the three-volume prequel manga Naoko-sensei did dealing with the story of Minako and Artemis before they join Usagi and Co., is even more of a nightmare of timeline inconsistency, but it's supposed to take place in the girls' seventh grade year, the first year of middle school.
