Funimation Enforces Intelectual Property Rights (2005-12-07 17:42:17)
Funimation recently informed fansub group Shinsen-Subs, "We own or control various exclusive copyrights and trademarks related to the animated motion pictures, including but not limited to, the series known as “Speed Grapher,” “Trinity Blood,” “FullMetal Alchemist,” “Dragon Ball,” “Solty Rei” a.k.a. “Origin,” “Detective Conan” a.k.a. “Case Closed,” and “Tsubasa”." This was after Funimation had contacted the registrar for Shinsen-subs domain name, resulting in the registrar, Joker.com, freezing the domain name. Solty Rei and Tsubasa have not yet been announced for release by Funimation.
This is good news. Funi is a better dubbing company than it used to be. A lot better than 4kids, who BUTCHERED One Piece.
-
thanks for telling me! :okay:
*R.I.P one piece!* :haha:
-
Well there goes any more subs. Stuck-up companies
-
I'm afraid, very afraid.... Funi butchered my beloved Conan... okay, maybe not butchered, but the voice acting was just.... ugh, terrible.
I just hope that doesn't happen to Tsubasa.... Funi did good job with Fullmetal Alchemist, so let's just hope if they are doing Tsubasa, it will turn out like FMA, and not like Conan...
-
Whatever happens, we are likey to get offical subbed dvd's anyway.
Strange that live-evil is still up when shinsen is down.
Hope somebody keeps the subbing alive (wishful thinking I know)

I'd prefer if someone subbed the new episodes, and took them down when the DVDs of those eps were out.
That way, people can get the newer ones without having to wait forever.
-
Thank you for that piece of information KatanaJon! Cookie! ^^
But ... does this means that it's subbed or dubbed? Or both ... ? Or would anyone like to go with choice C.) Not enough information to answer the question. ^.^;;;
-
Well, if Funimation dubs it, they WILL do a good job. They dubbed most of my favorites.
-
Here's a little more info on Funimation...
Quote from Animesuki:
New Funimation "licenses"
It has come to the attention of the AnimeSuki staff that Funimation has send a Cease & Desist letter to Shinsen-Subs and a certain large anime fansub torrent site requesting them to remove Solty Rei, Tsubasa Chronicle and Black Cat. While we consider it an odd move to announce a license in this way, this news is compelling enough to mark these series as licensed in our database as a precaution.
-
I guess on the bright side, it would mean I can see the episodes in full screen XD On the bad side, it will be harder to get new Tsubsa episodes since they'll be licenced... (I think? Or do they liscence season by season?)
-
While we consider it an odd move to announce a license in this way,
I agree with that. That's not exactly fair to the fansubber to shut them down for a series that hasn't even been announced to be licensed yet. Most fansubbers are good about stopping subs on licensed series, so they probably would have taken them down anyway. Stuck up companies, indeed. <__<
Otherwise... no surprise. I knew the series would be licensed soon or later. -_-;
-
Shinsen have dumped TRC now.
Here is hope a under-the-rader (in otherwords, non-US based group) continue the subbing
-
A haaa! I told the gaians this, and no one believed me!! Now I have a direct quote on my side!! Thanks! ^^
-
Pretty bad news for me, because I rely on fansubs  But it was a pretty unusual, for FUNimation to sned out C & D letters before the official announcement. :( I mean......without fansubs, maybe the popularity for some anime won't be as high as it is now.
-
I have pretty mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I'm glad that Tsubasa has been licensed by a company like Funi. That almost guarantees our chance of getting a subbed DVD release now. This will also mean that a lot more people will have more access to Tsubasa than before, which means more popularity for the series, which may hopefully mean that more people will be attracted to fansites like Capturedwings.net or more Tsubasa fansites may start to popup. On the other hand, I'm both surprised and kind of disappointed that Funi licensed it of all people and that they licensed it so soon. Funi has become as strict as ADV is about downloading their licensed anime, which means we most likely won't get anymore Tsubasa fansubs or rips of the official DVDs when they're released. While I realize that it's unethical as an anime fan for me to download a licensed anime, that's really the only way I can watch anime most of the year. The only time I'm allowed to buy anime DVDs is either Christmas or my birthday, so the rest of the year the only way I can watch anime is either by watching the limited number of dubs aired on TV or download anime. I use Christmas and my birthday as an opportunity to catch up on collecting my anime DVDs, which means it'll take me a long time for me to catch up with Tsubasa if I can't download it. I guess I could start reading the manga again. I wasn't going to because I was watching the anime too, and so far the anime and manga have been pretty much the same, but since it looks like the only way I'll get to catch up with Tsubasa is through the manga, I guess I'll start reading it again.
I was also surprised that Funi were the ones who licensed Tsubasa. I was really hoping it would be Geneon. Geneon has had experience with Clamp anime before, including CCS, so they have a better idea of what Clamp fans have come to expect of their releases. Plus, if it was Geneon, I could still download the DVD rips when the series was released on DVD, and I was hoping they would use the Bang Zoom VAs from the second CCS movie dub again for Tsubasa, if they dubbed it. But Funi has had no experience with Clamp anime before and Tsubasa is a series that features characters from other Clamp series, so it came across as a real shocker to me that Funi licensed it. There's no doubt in my mind that Funi will be able to do a good job with the series, but I still would have prefered Geneon. I wonder since Funi has an upcoming Digital Cable anime network, could they possibly air Tsubasa? That would be interesting to see Tsubasa being aired on TV if they did. I wonder if Funi will license XXXholic, too...
My main concern right now is that Funi will hopefully put a decent number of episodes on each disc and sale the DVDs at a decent price. When Funi was distrubuting the uncut Yugioh DVDs for 4Kids, they only released three episodes per volume, which is a ridicilous number of episodes for a long series like Yugioh. I just hope that they don't do the same thing with Tsubasa. I probably will buy the official DVDs when they're released because I love Tsubasa so much and that's probably going to be the only way for me to see it now, but it's not going to be the same anymore to not be able to watch the latest episode of Tsubasa almost a day after it's come out in Japan. That was the first time I was able to experience anime in that way and I had a lot of fun posting in the episode discussions, too. One can only hope that somebody will still fansub the remainding episodes and then take them down when the official DVDs are released, like what's happening with the Naruto fansubs. I guess this means there won't be any fansubs of the Tsubasa movie when it's released which means we'll have to wait even longer to see the movie. That really makes me sad because I was really looking forward to seeing the Tsubasa movie and now we'll have to wait forever to see it because Funi licensed Tsubasa so soon. At least I already know what I'm going to put on my Christmas Wish list next year....Tsubasa DVDs. ^^
-
yeah, i just read this news on live-evil- they seem to have dropped Tsubasa becos of this now!
i dunno what to say! i rely on subs to understand whats going on- whats going to happen to season 2 and 3??
subbed japanese dvd is prob goign to be very expensive! :sad5:
-
noooo!!!!! i want live-evil to continue. i was already sad when tsubasa was gone since season one is over. it use to be my sunday ritual watching tsubasa in morning...and now... nuu i don't want a dub at all! :( what will happen to the honorifics! GAAAAH...i just hope this doesn't turn out like CardCaptors did with Nelvana...  i HATE FUNIMATION now
...if not i better hope they mix up Tsubasa with the Captain Tsubasa :hello2:...and if not i hope live-evil can still fansub on account of they called it "tsubasa" when the anime is "tsubasa chronicle" ...oooh! technicality! :hello2:
 what i hope is that the information is wrong and it was done by some guy who changed their contact info to funimation to fool people...and that way i can stay optimistic. i won't believe until i see one dvd out ....and if i do i will buy it (they better have good fansubs! AND DONT CUT OUT ANYTHING!
Mod Edit: I understand you're recation with Live-Evil dropping TRC 2 & 3 :sad5: But maybe next time you can use less emo-icons. :) (Lumizstar)

Whoa, calm down there.
SOMEONE will sub season two. That's pretty much a given. I mean, look at Naruto. People are subbing the new eps.
-
Strange that live-evil is still up when shinsen is down.
Hope somebody keeps the subbing alive (wishful thinking I know)
Shinsen is down, apparently because the anime Funi licenses are mostly subbed by Shinsen. So they know just who to go to to stop people from subbing.
-__-" I just heard the news on a LiveJournal thing. Wow. I'm surprised they're licenses so many things at once. Funi also took Black Cat. -__-"
Subbing won't be a problem. There are a ton of anime that were licensed and were still being subbed.
-
think positive! its good that fumi got trc, but doesn't mean no one will fansub it anymore. Let's stay calm and wait til it air next year and see if someone took the risk. In worst case, we could always d/l raw version or chinese sub at least.
-
Some news:
Funimation - Shinsen-Subs Follow-up (2005-12-08 20:36:50)
There has been some misunderstanding regarding the events surrounding Funimation's enforcement of its intellectual property vis-a-vis Shinsen-Subs. The fansub group was actively making available several titles that Funimation has already publicly announced. Their copyright infringement was not limited exclusively to unannounced properties.
...ooh! they should still fansub the unannounced anime still ;)
-
On the filpside, FUNanimation is the way for TRC games to be released.
-
Hmm....unless FUNi makes an official comment and announcement about it, its really hard to confirm it :( Especially for the BC license, people have been wondering whether its true or not, since lamer_de from Animesuki said:
Now that shinsens site is up again and you can rad the C&D, there is no mentioning of Black Cat at all. Also, the "certain large anime fansub torrent site" still has torrents for Black Cat from other groups and only removed the ones from A-Keep. I'm sure mxs would've taken the other versions down as well if there were factual evidence Funi really licensed BC.
Its really a mystery of what happened behind the scenes now.
As for fansubs, I believe even if most of the fansub groups might drop it, there will still be underground groups that would do it :sweatdrop: Just like GSD, 3 groups continued to sub is after it got licensed.

Yep. In the worst case, we still have raws to stick to :)
-
I guess it's time to remove the episode downloads...
I sincerely hope some non-US-based fansub group will continue subbing it next year. It was fun being able to download the episode right away after it aired in Japan...
-

I guess we have to pray for underground groups to appear :sweatdrop: Or a few may even want to risk continue subbing it, like the GSD fansubs. But I still have one question in mind, is that does this mean FUNi gets allthe 3 seasons of Tsubasa? Most of us are assuming it is, but....lets hope its not :sweatdrop:
-
i don't live in america! i can fansub...oh wait i don't know japanese or how to encode :( and where do i get the raws? oh yeah dl-ing them...but i can't encode and i don't know japanese....i tried :(
-
If Tsubasa is popular enough, I'm sure someone will keep subbing it... Detetive Conan was licenced in many parts of the world yet its still been subbed (in numerous languages)... hopefully, it will be the same for Tsubasa...
-
Hmm good and bad news. The good think is usually when it's licessesed it meands dvds will come out (though hella expenisive). Personally I would have perfered another group to pick them up but better than Pioneer (now known as Geneon whom RUINED Card Captor Sakura!!).
I just heard live-evil is dropping TRC, that's too bad. I mean I wish they'd do this liceses thing season by season (as someone had suggested earlier). It was so nice to watch the fansubs right after it airs in Japan. And if they're going to drop it, that means they're going to drop subbing the movie right?
I hear the TRC movie is coming out soon on dvd, it's already up for pre-order. I kind of wished they did what FMA is doing with their movie which is providing english sub-titles in the limited edition. But from the info it looks like the TRC movie is only in Japanese and I don't know enough Japanese to follow convos.
You know ... anime companies in Japan ... would make a lot of money if they added english subtitles to their dvd releases (some have done that like with the upcoming release of FMA movie and I think an editon of Howl's Moving Castle did too). Most the time (no offense or anything) people don't like dubs or would perfer subs over dubs. If they had English subs included, they're make a higher profit than they already do since it is an international language ... but that's just my opinion and wishful thinking on my part.
-

Whoa, hold on there.
Nelvana runied CCS. Pioneer is just who they chose to release CCS on DVD uncut.

Quoted for truth.

WHYYYYYYY???????? I'm shock with the news and I wanna cry T_____T!!!!
I have read LE News and the Funi email and I cant believe it.
For the first time I was watching brand NEW anime and I was very happy, like others said, I had the 'TRC Sunday routine' too, and NOW I will have to wait until it gets on DVD and buy it??
where Im from its REALLY HARD -and I mean it- to find that kind of stuff 'coz there are not such things like a 'comic store' and the 'video stores' doesn't sell anime DVDs. (Can you believe it!!!) The ONLY solution I have, is through the 'download system' unless you have enough money to buy through internet sales. Good thing: You have quality and an original product; Bad thing: Its very expensive, 'coz our money system is poor if I compare to dollars or euros, so I cant afford it U_U
but well .............I'll stop the (who cares)bla bla bla. I only have 2 wishes: 1. I hope that someone fansub the last 2 TRC seasons or at least the raws (now I have to learn Japanese jejeje XP); 2. I hope Funi can do a good work dubbling/subbling TRC.
jejeje I should start to save money, maybe at the end of the next year, I could buy all TRC DVDs ^__^
PD: Sorry my grammar mistakes, I know it sucks :dodge:
-
Whoa, hold on there.
Nelvana runied CCS. Pioneer is just who they chose to release CCS on DVD uncut.
Gomen ne, I thought they were related companies, my bad.
-
maybe live-evil could just sub the episodes without actually releasing them! i mean, just provide the text and we get our own raws :P
-
Thats actually not a bad idea! if worse comes to worse- tho hard to flip frm txt to media player! :hehe:
im trying to keep a positive atmosphere- no official anouncements- and thanks to someone reminding me above- "they didnt say all seasons rite?"
didnt think of that! :sweatdrop:
hopefully not- fingers crosed!
-
It's a good way to expose this anime you see.
Though it's a double-edged sword.
-
Yep, I still haven't read any mention about Funimation claiming the rights for all seasons. But then, they didn't say too that it's only the first season they have the rights to release. :(
And about the subtitle scripts, that's actually not a bad idea. Not sure if that will also be considered illegal though... But I actually had wished for this during the first season... that some fansub group would just release scripts so I could use them with some media player that can use scripts together with a video. That way, I only have to download the raw video and the sub script. Not two videos which is just a waste of space considering the subtitle is the only difference between them.
-
Yep, I still haven't read any mention about Funimation claiming the rights for all seasons. But then, they didn't say too that it's only the first season they have the rights to release. :(
If you knew about copyright laws, than you'd know when a company claims the rights to something, they claim the WHOLE thing, not just parts of it.
I don't see what's so wrong with this, it's not like 4kids got the liscense or anything. I'm VERY happy Funimation got the liscense. I've talked to alot of their voice actors before (I live by their Texas headquarters, and they come to all the conventions I attend) And they always do their absoulute best to suit the characters they perform as. They WATCH the animes they act in. And frankly all of their recent work (Fruits Baskets, Full Metal, and YuYu Hakushou) have been very well done. Dubbing is not a bad thing. People automatically assume.
"Oh well the Japanese voice actors are better! Becuase they're Japanese !"
When they don't even speak the language.
And as for the episode downloads, summaries and screenshots are just fine with me. I'd rather buy DvD's so Bee Train, and Clamp get something in return for their awesome work. I thought most of you didn't like the anime anyways, y'know? Since you're always complaing about it.
-
little wolf: i don't see how they can copyright "text" since it can be easily edited with synonyms and "accidental" typos...like i doubt they can copyright every word ever used in tsubasa just to keep us from knowing what they say...lmao, funny thought XDD :rotfl: a lot of money spent though....just take tsubasa and go  at least legalize fansub's right to...fansub since some people prefer english dubs...and plus there are some people who can't read! so you only lost the reading-people audience and anyone who knows how to use a web browser, bittorrent, and/or mIRC...so that's only what...4000? 8000 people who know that...well that's what i see as a result of leech/seed counts for tsubasa)
i kind of see why they stop fansubbing it...but as soon as the content is edited (ie taking part of the pictures out to leave room for fansub areas)...kind of technically that is NOT tsubasa...well that's it w/ a dub... :snore: :snore: :snore: just ignore me... :dodge:
NOTE: my username is also totosquirt on the Live-Evil chat boards :noteworthy:
-
Gah, I hope there's some great, majestic (Overload on the adjectives..) group out there who would continue subbing. I would eternally bless them.
-
lol...even though the famous quote states "beggars can't be choosers"... i hope that fansub is good (gasp!)
-

Stop making assumptions like that here. No show is perfect. People are going to complain about something no matter what so take it as it is and not making comments like that. Besides, I like the anime A LOT though I do have some complaints about it but that's the nature of the beast
-
I find this interesting, I wonder how will they handle this.
Then again, after what they did to DBZ...
-
They are re-doing DBZ, at least the Saiyan saga atm
-
I kinda doubt they'll do the other sagas.
I'm thinking of a probable commercial for TRC right now.
-
If you knew about copyright laws, than you'd know when a company claims the rights to something, they claim the WHOLE thing, not just parts of it.
So, it's the whole series then...

I don't have any problems with their dubbing. Honestly, coz I don't how good they are... It's the fact that we'll have to wait ages just to see the next episodes that makes me complain. They better release them quick.
And as for the episode downloads, summaries and screenshots are just fine with me. I'd rather buy DvD's so Bee Train, and Clamp get something in return for their awesome work. I thought most of you didn't like the anime anyways, y'know? Since you're always complaing about it.
Not all fans (especially the members here) are from the U.S. Most fans rely on fansubs to watch the series. Yeah, the creators deserve to get paid but you have to understand the fact that without the fans, this show would not have been licensed in the first place. If Funimation gets really strict on this, they'll lose a lot of TRC fans. And fans make the free marketing they need.
The anime has its problems but I liked it anime anyway. I was actually really satisfied by the ending. And I think the next seasons will be better anyway...
-
I admit I got a chill when I heard Funimation had gotten Tsubasa, because I have really bad memories about the travesty that was the DBZ dubb. I haven't seen much of their recent stuff, but everyone says they're a lot better now, so I'm going to trust them.
And... I haven't heard all that much complaining about the anime... Most people have generally liked it. Sure, they complain about some stuff (I personally thought the season ending was weak), but people also complain about the Tsubasa manga (personally, I think it moves too slowly). Nothing is perfect. If people are complaining about the little things, that means that the series as a whole is excellent, to my mind.
-
If you got chills, I screamed. Haha, I was screaming and wrecking havoc all over. Tsubasa is a very good series, people just sometimes look at the negative side of things. Let's be happy it even got animated. The problem now is how soon we'll be able to see season 2 and 3....
-
Is it futile to hope they'll fit series in only 4 discs?
Fruits Basket has been only Funimation publication I have ever bought, 'cause of it's moderate price.
But yeah, I really don't care if they would dub whole series with only three grumbling old men. 'Cause I don't really watch dubbed versions, subtitled ones are for me. If it were 4Kids, there would probably not be subs, but once it's Funimation, there gotta be ones... right?
If price is ok, I may be thinkin of buying it, but if it's not, I'll survive without.
-
TSUBASA! i hope for your successfulness in english :( either that or someone fansub a good one plz :)
-
You know what I'm waiting for though? Merchaindice(sp?)! Since they are gonna dub it, and it's quite popular anime, they gotta make something other than the DVD's....
I recently saw on the news theTsubasa figures(Sakura, Syaoran, Kurorin, and Tomoyo) and they were so awsome :inlove: I really wanted Sakura and Syaoran figures!
-
I still think FUNimation is a better company than some others. So I'm not TOO worried.
I loved thier voice work on DBZ, Top Class stuff.
(I particullary like ADVfilms)
-
So I guess it's official now, huh? That they really do own Tsubasa? If so, I'll never get to watch the anime until I'm in my late twenties -__-;; They don't show any dubbed animes here in Canada. They do, just not the ones I want to watch..=(
-
I hope they get some decent voice acting. If they get a bad voice actor for Syaoran or Sakura, I'll just die.
-
Seriously, you guys act like it's the end of the world.
I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for now.
If they did make a crappy job on it then all bets are off.
-
I was really devastated when I checked out DB-LE today and found that they stopped the TRC torrents... I don't really have any problems with dubs...My main problem and probably most anime fan's are that it might cost too much (that's the least of my problems though :sweatdrop:) and that it's hard for some countries to get their hands on the DVDs -_-... I'm willing to wait for the DVD and buy it the problem is how :icon_pale:...The country where I'm living now is not exactly an anime fan ...The only animes that I get to watch are Pokemon and Yu Gi Oh :snore:...
Let's just hope that FUNi does a great job on picking their VA's cause I heard that they made a fantastic job on Fruits Basket... Though I'm still wishing that someone would fansub cause that's really the only way that I can get my hands on anime :foncused:...
Raw might also be good! This way I'll be forced to learn japanese! YAY! hehehe..... :wav:
-
Umm.... Are you so sure Funimation licensed Tsubasa? I checked Anime news network and it doesn't have any news on Tsubasa being dubbed and usually they post it right away when they hear of an anime or manga getting licensed. I'll go check it again. Plus, I read an anime magazine that was only released recently and they had a list of anime's that are "2006 hopefuls" meaning they are hoping it gets licensed this year, and Tsubasa was on the list. Ah well.
It's too bad DB-LE are gonna stop subbing! I really wanted to see season 2! ;_;

As you see in my first post, they did something very unusual. They haven't really announced that they have it yet, but if the went through the trouble of telling people to stop subbing it, then I guess they have it.
Also, don't worry about season 2. Someone will sub it. Look at One Piece and Naruto. Still being subbed even though they are both licenced.
-
I hope it gets dubbed! I think Funi did Fruits Basket right? If they did....I didn't care for it as much as I did the manga. >< But I usually enjoy their dubs!
-
Official news this time!
http://animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=8193
In the February issue of Anime Insider, FUNimation has announced the R1 license to both Production I.G's XXXHolic/Tsubasa feature film and Bee Train's Tsubasa Chronicles TV series. No mention has yet been made of Tsubasa's second season or the XXXHolic TV series yet
-
They HAVE to make a second season soon! Although, I heard that it's coming in like...April or something. I don't want to wait anymore!
-
They HAVE to make a second season soon! Although, I heard that it's coming in like...April or something. I don't want to wait anymore!
Correct.
It will run from April until August, and the third season will follow.
-
Is that only on TV or will it be available to download? I don't live in Japan so I have to download the episodes...I hope they'll show it on Adult Swim if it ever gets dubbed!
-
Correct.
It will run from April until August, and the third season will follow.
Wow that's really cool. I can't wait! I didn't know there was going to be a third season. I heard about a second season though.
-
If there's going to be a third season, why would they announce it when they're working on a second season? If there's going to be a third season, which I hope there will be, they most likely won't announce anything until after the second is finished and probably that there was enough viewers.
-

Hm.. good point.

They announced a while ago that there would be 3 seasons in all.
-
Really!?!?!? But only three seasons!? :'(
-
They announced a while ago that there would be 3 seasons in all.
Seems weird because CCS had 12 volumes of manga and only 3 seasons, and Tsubasa has about 18 volumes already! Please correct me if I'm wrong. That really doesn't make any sense! But if it's only three seasons, so be it. -_-
-
Never know...probably more but I think 3 seasons is reasonable considering CCS had 3 seasons as well and became immediately successful and popular. Yeah. XD
-
Seems weird because CCS had 12 volumes of manga and only 3 seasons, and Tsubasa has about 18 volumes already! Please correct me if I'm wrong. That really doesn't make any sense! But if it's only three seasons, so be it. -_-
Hm.. that is weird. That would make it seem that there would be more seasons.
-

Yeah; that's what I've always assumed. I really am confused by this.
-

Me too. You've made a really good point.
-
Wait...TRC has 18 volumes?! No, it doesn't actually. It only has about 13-14 volumes out right now. ^^;
-
#14 will be out in Japan on February 17.
-
Vol. 14 comes out Feb. 17th in Japan? That's cool. Maybe it will have 18 volumes.
-
As previously stated, correct me if I'm wrong. I was a bit uncertain about the number of volumes. Thank you for fixing my mistake.
-
Aren't we going a little bit off the topic here??? Anyway, I'm still hoping that someone will fansub cause if we are going to wait for FUni's dubb or subb version well, we'll be waiting for a very long time since it will take them some time to catch up with Japan... and I'm not really fond of anime dub's though some are good... I'm still in shock of what Nelvana did to CCS... but I'm sure FUNi is MUCH better thatn Nelvana....
-

I just want to let you know that there were lots of additional stuff added to the anime that wasn't in the manga (ex. more cards in the anime than in manga, so more episodes of catching the cards)
-
Yeah, we really are getting off-topic here ^_^'
Okay, so FUNimation has Tsubasa? Well, AT LEAST it's not one of those horific dubbers *cough* 4Kids and Nelvana *cough* and FUNimation did a pretty good job with Fullmetal Alchemist and Spiral in my opinion. So the dub will most likely be a decent one at least.
By the way, if it were up to you, what voice actors would you use to be the english cast for Tsubasa? Just wondering if anybody besides me thought about it!
-

I've heard rumors of the person who does Winry's voice in FMA will be doing Sakura. (RUMORS)
-
Off topic: Tsubasa has 150+ chapters, I think. So that's 21 volumes....I think. Besides we aren't sure yet how many episodes there are in each season. CCS had 35 episodes in their 1st season, 11 episodes in their second season, and 24 episodes in their third season.
Just wanna point that out but if you want, shoot me. In anycase, did any fansub groups announced yet if they're doing season 2 in the future?
-
Folks...let's get back on topic here. This is the discussion for Funimation getting Tsubasa and not the speculation of episode-to-chapter ratio.
Thank You.
-
wait a minute... isn't dattebayo in it with live-evil? db still does naruto even though it's licensed, so i'm sure they'll continue with tsubasa ^_^ *crosses fingers*
-
I dunno. Dattebayo already removed their Tsubasa torrents.
-
Live-Evil and Dattebayo were working together, but Live-Evil chickened out and DB followed.
-
Live-Evil actually follows the rules of society (can't blame them really) but DB will for sure continue subbing. At least...from my point of view since they still sub Naruto even after its been licensed. ^^;
-
The difference between Tsubasa and Naruto is that Tsubasa is licensed by Funi and Naruto is licensed by Viz. Viz isn't as strict about downloading licensed anime as Funi is. They at least have yet to start sending out C&D letters to anime torrent sites, so Naruto can still be fansubbed because they haven't been told to stop by the companies yet. But Tsubasa season two hasn't been licensed yet; only the first season and the movie have, so there could still be a chance that the second season can be fansubbed, since it wouldn't exactly be unethical for it to be fansubbed as only the first season has been licensed so far.
-

Yeah I was wondering about that too...

Yeah.... According to Anime News Network, there's no mention of season two being licensed so hopefully that will give DB-LE the go signal to continue fansubbing season two.....
-
The second season of Tsubasa (as well as the first season of XXXholic) are NOT licenced by any company outside of Japan. Usually a company like Funimation waits until an ongoing season is finished before obtaining a licence to sub/dub it outside of Japan.
So if you're wondering if DB-LE will show the subs on their site when they come out, you can stop wondering...those shows will appear.

What about the movie??? Funimation has the movie right??? I was looking forward to downloading that...

You can find anything on the internet. It'll be up for download somewhere when it comes out.
-
Which won't be long now since the DVD comes out this month.
-
when's the official release of the dvd??? I know it's this month but what day?
-

The 25th. That's for both Tsubasa and xxxholic.
-
Arigatou KatanaJon! :okay:
-
...Hurrah for a company that makes decent dubs!!
(Fruits Basket. FRUITS BASKET. Best dub ever.
...and FMA was really good, but no one can beat Paku Romi-sama. >>)
...I will never forgive 4Kids for killing One Piece. NEVER. *clings to her subs and cries* WHAT DID YOU DO TO SAAAAAAAANNNNNNNJJJJJJIIIIIII????????????????
;_;
-
...I will never forgive 4Kids for killing One Piece. NEVER. *clings to her subs and cries* WHAT DID YOU DO TO SAAAAAAAANNNNNNNJJJJJJIIIIIII????????????????
Yup, One Piece is just another poor victim of 4Kid's horrific dubbing jobs. Poor, poor, Sanji. Out of all the characters, I think they messed up Sanji the most. My friend was super mad with 4Kids. It was kinda funny hearring her rant though.
FUNimation didn't really the best job on Fruits Basket, I liked it, but truthfully, I think the voices sometimes sounded, I dunno, a little fake particularly Momiji's voice. I think they did a better job with FMA and Spiral (I said that already)
-
Doesn't companies like funimation sub the anime as an option as well as dub? I know fruits basket was like that, and if so why is everyone complaining about sub when it'll be available by profesionals?
-
You actually have a point there!!! I guess we are all just bummed out about what happened to the CCS dubbed version(since they eventually released a subbed version but not by Nelvana) that we don't want it to happen to Tsubasa... After all not everyone is fond of watching/reading subs and would just choose to be lazy and watch something that they can understand than trying to catch all the words that is written below....
-
CC was dubbed for television. Tsubasa is being dubbed for a direct to DVD release. Why would it be edited?
-
Well technically it the first season shouldn't have been dubbed at all. That WAS illegal no matter what way you spin it. The "stop subbing after it's lisceneced" rule was made by the subbers themselves.
So if a subbers group subbs the second season, it's no more or less illegal than when the first season was dubbed.
I'm just saying, that's all.
-
...Well...as long as I can somehow get my hands on Tsubasa anime (and the movie, are they dubbing the movie too? From what I read in Animenation, that's the gist I got...)...
But, FUNimation is really good. And, yeah, they DO give you the options of the subs instead of the dubs. I usually flick between the two to see the differences. Haha.
-
Yeah, the good news is that we're getting Tsubasa!!!
-
I just hope I get to see season 2 and 3. Tsubasa is just too good to miss. I got all of season 1 and the movie and I just can't stop it there or ill cry for it. Afterall I've been an anime fan for years now.
-
News (http://www.animax-asia.com)
Tsubasa Chronicle will be broadcasted on Animax Asia and I am soo freakin scared they'll dub it. Funimation seemed to already distributed it.
-
I like how they completely translated the title as: Chronicle of the Wings which is exactly what Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle would mean. Nice.
I actually have Animax here in Japan so it'll be in Japanese here, but what language do these shows air in the rest of Asia?
-

Apparently, this is Animax's own original dub of Tsubasa. It isn't Funi's dub. Seeing as how Funi is an American company and not an Asian company, the dub would've been released in the U.S. first if Funi was already distrubuting it. But out of curiosity, is it really legal for them to produce two seperate dubs of Tsubasa? I know they did this with several titles before including CCS and Rurouni Kenshin (which they aired as Samurai X), but can they really be allowed to dub their own version? Do they have to have Funi's consent or can they just buy the rights from the Japanese company without having to go through Funi?
-
Funimation is in North America, Animax is in Asia, has nothing to do with Funi's consent, but I'm not to sure with the Bee Train or CLAMP for that matter, unless they bought the rights to use it over there, there are fans who watch and read the manga already in like 70% or so in the world, so its good news for the people over seas.
Now if, I know it will, it is dub, what would you like the voice actors to be?
-
can i download episodes from funimation
-
From Funimation directly, no, they'd give you a C&D letter, when Funi will get off there buts and give us the DVDs is another story.
-

So is Tsubasa not going to be shown on TV? Just direct DVD release?
-

Shojo's, or Animes that lack alot of explosions don't do well on American T.V. . Plus it would've been announced by now if it were going to be on any Anime showing networks. They announced that Bleach would be on Adult swim what, one week after they announced the liscense?
-
Well at least Tsubasa wasn't dubbed by 4kids, the masacer anime worse than *insert serial killer* and it would be on at 7 in the morning. I cannont get up that early on saturdays. Hopefully all the companies learned from the horrible dubbs of CC and One Piece.
-
True, true, my friend and I were crossing our fingers that Tsubasa wouldn't get licensed by 4kids, and they didn't! Yay!
I still have to wonder who might end up doing their voices though.... :dodge:
-
Hopefully all the companies learned from the horrible dubbs of CC and One Piece.
*breaks down crying and hugs her Japanese One Piece dvds* WHAT DID THEY DO TO SANJI?!!?!?
-
Well since its Funni, they'll use Funni voice actors, maybe others, what would you like them to be if you could choose?
Kurogane: Jerry Jewell, Because I love his voice, it fits Kuro to a key almost.
Fai: Umm..... Brandon Hunt? Kudo's for anyone who hits Fai on the mark.
Sakura: Ellen Wilkinson, she is a good va, I don't know who else?
Sayoran: This ones hard too, Aaron Dismuke?, Any one else? Kevin Corn?, he'd be good.
Mokona: Monica Rial, She is the best in animal or, what the heck is that thing, for voice acting.
Anyone, is there any Va's you'd like in Tsubasa Dub?
-
Sayoran: This ones hard too, Aaron Dismuke?, Any one else? Kevin Corn?, he'd be good
I've only heard Aaron as Al from FMA and young Akito from FB, unless he can do older voices I think he's gonna sound to kiddy.
Maybe Laura Balley for Sakura? She did ok as Tohru from fruits basket and that was a hard character to pull off IMHO. Plus she can sing.
I dont really know may FUNi people. *thinks back to FB and FMA* Momiji's VA fro Mokona if she can stay in hyper-mode ha ha. Ummmmmmm Nup cant think of anyone else.
-
Laura Bailey could do Sakura.I have the Fruits Basket dvd, and the dubb version is good. She sounds so innocent!
-
Doesn't really matter to me. As long as Funi doesn't cut out good scenes and they keep their original names. If they did FMA well, they can do this well too. THEY BETTER!!
-
I think Funi wouldn't commit suiside with a stunt like that, the only thing that gets me thinking is how they will say Fai's name,
will it be Fay---(Fie) which is how it is to sound,
or will it be Fai, as in sounding?
And leaving all the Kuro-pin/Pong/wong jokes
-
And leaving all the Kuro-pin/Pong/wong jokes
I shall miss those.....
So any updates on when we might be getting even glipse of English version?
-

We should be afraid of somthing like that to. Not just Fai's but pronouncing all of the names right.
-
Honestly, I'm only planning to watch the English version because Funimation is doing it, since I'm not too fond of the anime overall. I've watched the Yu Yu Hakusho and Spiral dubs they did, and I've become very fond of the company. They have some nice voice actors (though some who...aren't quite as good), and I love it when they put outtakes and such on the DVDs. I trust them not to "butcher" the series.
I agree with people who said that Laura Bailey would be good as Sakura.
I heard they were going to start releasing the series this fall. Is that true? And they're not putting it on TV? That would probably mean no edited version (not that there's really anything to edit out of the Tsubasa anime).
-
according to this page (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=9381) these are the dvds release by funi in nov/dec. i don't see tsubasa anywhere :(
just want to point out that the slayers series was licensed by funimation since may 2005, and still no progress :sad5: is that gonna be the same for tsubasa? :( (yes, i am aware of the dubbed slayers anime, but that wasn't funi.)
-
Well the dubbing process does take a while.
-
After seeing the FMA movie this weekend I have to say I'm not worried at all about the way the dub will turn out at the least.
I had seen the movie before hand, and their dubbing job was top-notch, and they kept the script very close to the original. Also they handed out posters (BIG posters) to everyone who came, and the voice actors for Ed, Winry, Envy, Havoc, (who was also the director for the dub) Gluttony and Nina showed up and signed them for everybody on their own free will,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v305/TheAnna/DSCF0033.jpg
(The company was only making them go to the housten premiere) and were there until nearly 2AM in the morning so everyone would get their poster signed.
With a company that takes that much dedication with it's fans, why are you all so worried?
-
Last I heard Tsubasa won't be released until sometime middle of 2007. Unoffically of course, but thats what I've been told in the e-mail's I got from Funimation.
Weather it's true or not we won't know until they actually release the information we want ;)
Until then....
-
Well, I'm not worried but also worried!^_^''
I always believed that their's no perfect voice actor for Sakura in the english version. I'm afraid they might make her voice too low or too high pitched. I'm just worried about that.
-
I agree with you, EuphoriaBliss... I dying to see what time of dubs they make. I hope Sakura's isn't too bad. I can't even picture Syaoran's and Fai's voice being dubbed... Maybe Kurogane's though. It's all deep and stuff, I'm sure that one won't be that much of a problem.
-
Um... the release date for the first DVD of Tsubasa is set for May 22, 2007.
All I ask is that Sakura's voice not sound like a mouse that has swallowed helium.
-
According to ANN, Funi has officially announced the English cast for the Tsubasa dub. You can read the list of the English voice artists here: http://animenewsnetwork.com/news/2007-02-25/tsubasa-english-cast-announced
I have to say I wasn't expecting Vic Mignogna to play Fai, but that should be an interesting experience. For those wondering what the dub might be like, Colleen Clickenbeard will be the ADR director for the dub, and she was also the ADR director for the FMA dub, so if you're also a fan of the FMA dub, you hopefully won't have anything to worry about with Tsubasa.
-
Ok, I just saw the voice actor information..... the only wish I had was that Sakura not sound like she had swallowed helium.... Monica Rial sounds like that in a lot of the work she does.... I am so disappointed.
-
It's a little unfair to judge a dub before you've seen it. With someone like Collen Clickenbeard directing, it might not turn out that bad. Just give it a chance before you pass judgment on it. But TBH, all I really care about is for somebody to get Tomoyo's voice right this time. That's all I ask for.
-
I have to say I wasn't expecting Vic Mignogna to play Fai, but that should be an interesting experience.
Well what voiceactors they get dosen't really much to me because I probably won't watch much of the dub, but I don't think Vic Mignogna fits to talk Fai, what I have heard of him I think he has a pretty dark voice which I don't think will fit Fai very well....... I haven't heard the other voiceactors on the list..
-

You know what? Usually I'm the first person to say not to judge a dub. I LOVE voice actors and I love a lot of dubs. I just really love Tsubasa and I wanted the best for it. I don't think some of those voice actors are the best. I will of course watch the dub because some of my friends have trouble with subtitles, but I would just like to enjoy the experience.
-
Bad news guys...my friend watched the first dub ep of Tsubasa at a convention...and here's what was asked...
Do they keep the suffixes?
Nope.
Sakura calls Shaoran "Shou" like.. Shou Tucker. XD And I guess after she wakes up from her unconscious state, she starts calling him Shaoran.
>_>...guess no "Kuro-pon" .....Kuro-sama maybe changed to Lord Kuro....
-
...I am filled with a deep sense of woe at that statement.
At least they tried to keep the general idea of their intimacy. It just sounds... americanized. Horribly. ;
-
Shou? That's.... interesting....
No Kuro-pon? What is he going to be called then? Oh well, I suspected it would be this way.
-
The official trailer for Tsubasa is up at Funi's MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/funimation You can hear some of the English VAs in the clips and all I can say so far is that I'm impressed and they pronounced Sakura's name correct this time!
-
Wow. I am very impressed. Monica Rial doesn't sound how she usually does. Thank God. I'm so excited now.
I noticed that their website: http://www.tsubasaonline.com/ (http://www.tsubasaonline.com/) was updated too. ;D

-
I actually didn't get to hear the whole trailer. o_0
My mom came into the room and I had to turn it off. Now the trailer is gone so I can't study the voices anymore. Anyone know if the trailer is located elsewhere?
-
Maybe in youtube or dailymotion.com?
