Title: Suggest spamming control rules
Post by: ashleygurl on August 22 2005, 04:09 pm
If any of you have noticed, spamming is still a serious problem around here.
And honestly speaking, its getting worse.
Not that I'm trying to offend anyone out there.

I hope Lumizstar is going to come back and handle a bit of the problem.

So Sli and Little Wolf, (if u remember me lol), is there any current rules/ policy in dealing with the problem?

Can you show us any examples of spamming? If you think there's a problem with a post you think is spam, report it to a moderator (lower right hand link on the post) and a determination can be made by the powers-to-be. If there is indeed a major problem with it, I'm sure the situation will be taken care of and the people responsible dealt with.

See. Simple. :)

If you need examples of spamming, well seriously, look around the forum.

Yes. I know it could be reported to the moderator...but nowadays if anyone notice lumizstar is NOT around.
Second of all, I think  there isn't enough mods to help controlling the problem.
And then again the whole thing is not as you mention 'simple', look, every topic, there is alot of spamming.

So are you suggesting me to report each and every spam to the moderators???
I think strict policies must be taken....I know there is a warning system avaliable.
I think spamming should include ppl who only post one or two sentences which are rather pointless or ppl who post posts with loads of grammatical error or ppl who gets out of the topic.

I stand by my statement. The situation will be looked into.

As far as the not having enough mods working on the situation, I don't see much of teh spamming in the General Media forum because I won't allow it there.

We do the best we can.

The reason we don't have a lot of mods, is that it is hard to appoint them, not everyone here has the capacity to be a mod.

If a post gets majorly off-topic, just report it, it will be dealt with as quickly as possible.

I don't see what else we can do.

re SLI: Well...its hard to say not everyone has the capacity...I think its really up to your decision to realize who's right for taking up the responsibility.

re arcademan: Okay. I guess I did kind of overreacted. I do respect others ways in dealing with the problem.

Here's some of the rules over at the Teen Titans Unlimited forum where I also moderate that could be useful here:

Posting
- Keep your posts clean. No foul language, and absolutely no religious, ethnic, or sexual slurs.

- Unless English is not your first language, please keep your posts coherent to the best of your ability. DO NOT USE NETSPEAK.

- If you start a thread, please post it in the correct forum. Sometimes the moderators have more important things to do than moving threads because someone posted it in the wrong forum. Please read the forum description as to what may be discussed in that particular forum.

- Stay on topic, and keep your posts constructive. Do not make posts that contain either one word or one line (such as "You better believe it") that contribute nothing to the discussion. Nonconstructive posts will be subject to deletion with little or no notice.

Conduct
- Do not be a jerk. Always show respect towards other members and their opinions. It is okay to debate a topic, just as long as it does not turn into a flame war.

- If a problem arises that requires the assistance of a moderator, please notify one immediately via private messages or use the "Report" feature, which is located in the lower right corner of each post. Do not further disrupt the thread by making off-topic complaints to the moderator.

- For your own safety, please do not give out any personal information (home address, full name, telephone number, etc.) on the board or your profile. Also, unless you have permission, do not request any personal information from another member, in which case this should be handled privately.

- Listen to the staff and try not to annoy them. If they ask you to stop doing something, please do so. Not complying may result in a strike against you.

- A moderator will only take action in case a thread gets out of hand, so do not further disrupt the thread by arguing with the moderator.

- Any and all disagreements should be dealt with in private.

-  Impersonating another member is strictly forbidden and will not be tolerated. This will result in an automatic ban. No exceptions, no questions asked.

- If you ask to banned, or think you should be banned, you will be banned. No questions asked.

- If you feel you were wrongfully warned or banned by a moderator other than myself, you can appeal to an administrator. However, any decision made is final and cannot be overturned.

Netspeak is the use of letters and numbers in sentences...like shorthand.

before = B4
How are you = How RU

Things like that. It's annoying and makes for lousy writing.
