the default is fine, i'll worry about the layout thingy when the site is up and working

If you make the site with YahooGeocities, it's pretty easy. the use a What-you-see-is-what-you-get program, so you can just drag and click pictures and what not. Back when my site was running, that is what i used.
As far as what to put in it, it depends on what the site is going to be about. I can give you mre tips if you give me a couple more details...

www.daydreamgraphics.com (http://www.daydreamgraphics.com) Has some good layouts, as well as some tutorials. Back when I was making sites I'd go there, get a template then change it to suit my needs so I didnt have to start from scratch.

edit:
i just found a layout that looks really nice, i think i'll use this one for the time being: http://komettails.net/divs/016/
edit again:
when i try to add text or download links in the layout by right clicking on the HTML file and then click edit i end up with this:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/c5w9uu
the layout gets distorted

I use mostly freewebs (http://freewebs.com/) for my fanlisting websites. It's really simple to use, and pretty straight forward :keke:

Well, I couldn't see th layout, so I cant help you with that...
And if you use yahoogeocities, I'm not sure how to direct-link from there. -^^- sorry that I couldn't be of more help...

Get a free layout at a grahpic site. Upload the zip file onto your web storage place and unzip it . Then everything's just like.. there.

Yep, that should work. I do the same, with my own layouts. They always work for me.

Freewebs is good, when you are making a fanlisting. You can only have 50 pages in the webspace area.

Or you could use sitesled.com

Is it any good, then freewebs. Because, freewebs is driving me crazy.

If you want to really learn from scratch, this site may be helpful to you: LissaExplains (http://www.lissaexplains.com/)
^_^ It's a very good site that I would highly recommend to others.  It use to not have that pop-up, but ah well, what can you do with advertisement deals these days between hosts and masters?  *sighs* >_<;

Well, I personally think Freewebs is the best free hosting site out there, or at least one of the best. Before I got my own domain, I used to get hosted by other people (you use FTP for that), so perhaps you can ask some friends that you know can host you. Although if you're just starting web design freewebs should do.
If you want to make your own layouts, just fiddle around with images on graphic programs. I use Adobe Photoshop (like 90% of the world xD), but Paint Shop Pro is pretty good too and it's simpler than Photoshop, perfect for beginners.
Good luck!
