Cookies represent a member's popularity in the forum. If a member does a good thing to you, you give him a cookie. If he does the opposite, you can eat a cookie from him. :D I won't list the bad things cos that's up for you to think... Meanwhile, good things are pretty easy to recognize like contributing helpful links or news.
Eating a cookie doesn't mean you get the cookie. It just gets lost in your stomach!
Cookies can be traded for money to be used in the shop that will open here in the forum in the future. I'll announce when you can trade cookies for money.
There's a time limit between cookie-giving and eating. I've increased it to 5 hours. Let me give you an example...
SLi has 1 cookie. He posts fresh news about Tsubasa so I give him 1 cookie. SLi now has 2 cookies. :okay:
Later, I found out that the news wasn't about Tsubasa after all! :tongue3: Just useless stuff and he even posted it in the wrong forum.
So what can I do? I eat the cookie I just gave him and eat one more to punish him for the wrong deed. Basically, if you've just given him a cookie and then within the time limit you clicked on his "Eat a cookie" link, 2 cookies will be taken from him. The forum will assume that you made a mistake of giving him a cookie and that you really meant to eat a cookie. So two cookies will be taken from him instead of just one. <-- SLi
So, if you accidentally clicked on the "Give a cookie" link, don't eat a cookie from him right away cos it will take 2 cookies not just one! Wait for the time limit to pass then after that you can take back the cookie you accidentally gave him. It's a lot of hassle so better yet forget about it. Anyway, it's just 1 cookie. Just be more careful next time. :)
So what's with the time limit?
It's there to prevent abuse. You can't keep on giving or eating cookies to/from a member without waiting for the time limit to pass.
For example, after eating a cookie from Member A you could do the following:
1. Give a cookie or eat a cookie from any other member except Member A.
2. Give a cookie to Member A within the time limit. Reverses your previous action and gives 1 cookie to Member A. (means you made a mistake and you really wanted to give him a cookie)
3. Wait for 5 hours (the time limit) and give/eat a cookie to/from Member A again. It will add/subtract a cookie to/from him normally.
I hope everything's clear now. The forum logs all the giving and eating of cookies so I can find out if anyone abuses the system. That's why I hope everyone will try to be reasonable with their cookie decisions. :happy4:
Happy cookie-giving and eating! :D
P.S. Don't eat too much... :tongue3:
-Little Wolf's edit-
You need to have 300 posts to be able to give/eat cookies. But please don't spam the forums to achieve that post count. The forums will be closely monitored for abuses. We won't increase the post requirement anytime soon... not at least until most of the members have high post counts. :)
-
why couldn't you pick on another member? *cries*
- You evil person, *flies away*
-
aha...this system is a little complex...and hard.
So you have to perform good deeds to another person? *frowns*
SO what if ur doing something that is a good deed to the other person but a bad deed to the other person...and what if some ppl are bias and kept deleting the cookies once they earned one?? So how can i protect my cookies? Maybe you should like increase the post count for the cookies? coz 100 posts isnt that much, when this forums gets popular...and it would be pretty much chaotic for ppl to add/delete each others cookies...the system would be totally crashed up.
-
0.o this system is new to me ^^ Haven't seen any cooke system so interesting before. Do you have any plans when will the shopscome up and the practical use for it begins?? ^^
-
Ummmm, this might sound silly butwhere exactly is the cookie link?
-
it only shows after you hit 100 posts
-
^ yeap, and as Ash has suggested, I'll be increasing that as more members reach 100. It won't be a special feature anymore if 90% of the members can give/eat cookies. So it's a special "power" only for those who are active in the forums. :D
-

yeah..the board will be in chaos if I let that happen so don't worry cos I'll increase it later like I said in the previous post.
And it's up for you to decide whether you want to give or eat a cookie. Like I said, I hope members will be reasonable with their decisions. You can just give a cookie to another member because he's your friend! That's reason enough... And don't worry anymore about people constantly eating cookies cos I will know. Anyway, I doubt that anyone could be so pathetic as to wait for 5 hours just to eat a cookie and then do it again and again and again... He'd have to be really dedicated. :D
-
0.o this system is new to me ^^ Haven't seen any cooke system so interesting before. Do you have any plans when will the shopscome up and the practical use for it begins?? ^^
I'm afraid it won't be until next month. For the meantime, I'll make a topic for you to suggest ideas for shop items. :D
and don't worry, the system isn't really that complex. It just looked complicated because of the way I explained it...
-
hm..sounds fair enough for me. XD
So the strategy is to befriend everyone...LOL. So what about the new increasement...how much?
SO is there any punishment for the person who constantly gobbles ppl's cookies? :hehe:
-
Probably I'll increase it to 250 then 500 next... :)
As for the punishment, he might get banned or just get his account deactivated, depending on how much damage he has done...
-

Wow...big increase in there. i think 500 is a bit too much. So like 250? hm...well just a suggestion. But it would definately be a big motivation for members in here.
punishment sounds totally fair...but what if a person keeps on giving cookies to everyone? so does that equal to breaking the rules?
-
it will be upping as more people approach the previous limit, and yes I believe it will be breaking the rules
-
sounds absolutely reasonable. So want is the max. amount of cookies for a member to reach?
-
There is a limit???!!!!
-
no limit
-
Ok. Thx.
-
your welcome

HI am new here so when does every1 usually log in? And sorry if I sound rude I dont mean it to sound that way.

different times of the day, everybody is in different timezones
-
HI am new here so when does every1 usually log in? And sorry if I sound rude I dont mean it to sound that way.
since i live in HK...i usually come to this forum around night time. But i guess it doesn't really matter...ppl in here reply posts quite quickly so dun worry
-
This is a forum not a chatroom so there might be times when no one is online. That's the whole purpose of web forums, anyway.. You can post messages and they can be seen later at any time, as long as it doesn't get deleted which won't happen if it's a sensible post. :D
-
Hmm... I haven't seen this system before either. But I think it's a good idea! :okay:
-
Other forums call it as Popularity level. Actually, the original name for this particular forum system was Karma but I wanted something better and well... cuter to say so I changed it to Cookies! you guys agree with me that cookies are cuter right? :happy4:
Actually, I got the idea from another forum which used Popularity level as its name but the members there were saying "gimme some cookies!" and "I'm gonna get your cookies!". I find that much enjoying to hear than karma. :D
-
Yesh, everyone likes Cookies ^^ he he. I remember a song I used to sing when i was little at school.. it was called 'Who Stole The Cookie From The Cookie Jar'. You went around, singing who stole the cookie, saying someone stole it. If they said no I didn't, it kept on going round till someone did. He he. That reminds me of the eat a cookie part.
-
So this is exactly like karma.
-
how do u give a person a cookie ?
-
*stare* 100 post to see a cookie. i better get writing and writing and writingand writing and writing and writing and writing and writing and writing and writing and writing and writing and writing-.- ok now im being stupid lol. guess ill just write bout nething and try to hit 100 lol. won't take that long i hope :rotfl:
-
Waiii! I wanna give people cookies! So many people deserve some!
40 more posts to go :tongue3:
-
You guys XDD take ur time...and i totally agree that cookies sound 'cute'..some forums use level or so many other ways...so its nice that we have our own little special 'feature' for our forum :) like a trademark for it or something. XD
-
wow...cookie system...i'm never going to get any actually... i'll get fat anyway
-
It seems everyone wants to give cookies... lets all try to get to 100!
-
I agree with scarecrow_wingz lol. if i eat too much i will get fat which is NOT good *looks in mirror*
But cookies are yummy none the less. lol
-
I wish I can give ppl here cookies but I just dont know how.
-
maybe u can ask in the questions part of the forum. cuz i think u can give them to ppl
-

-
Yup! No meanies here!
[scouts out for bad people]
Nope! All clean!
-
this is a meany free place.
-
and we want it to stay that way :D
-
Of course!
No one would want to come if everyone was mean! "Eee! I don't wanna go there, people are going to steal my cookies! And harass me. . . and make fun of my lack of ...everything!"
Hehe, me and my paranoia.
Nope, I know that will never happen here!
...if by some crazy chance it does...
..well...I'll take care of it. MUAHAHA!
[evil plotting]
-
I wish I can give ppl here cookies but I just dont know how.
well..if you wanna give cookies, you have to reach at least 100 posts...XDD its like some motivation to post more i guess...but take ur time really as i've said previously.
And for gaining cookies, contribute/dedication/gd comments on various topics etc, might gain u cookies too...(i guess i'm kinda of giving you guys all the hints to get cookies XD but its not easy still...) anyway gd luck to ur cookie collecting...if ur not afraid of getting fat..XDD lol.
-
I recieved a cookie and I don't know how... -^^-
-
but i am afraid of getting fat *sweat drops* lol. o well oooo now i feel like eating a cookie
-
:stares at cookies:
-
I recieved a cookie and I don't know how... -^^-
hehe, that was me Nyoko. I was on a cookie giving craze.
-
-^^- *huggles and wishes I could give you one* T-T
-
Hehe s'okay. I live to give people cookies and make them FAT!!!
Muahahah!
Oh man, we're all gonna get E-Diabetes from all these cookies :tongue3:
-
hI!
HEHEHE , THE ONE YEAH! o_ó
etto...this is so complicated @___@ waaaaa , so i get a kookie , and i have to eat before 5 hrs??!!! o_O , cuz then someone will still it??! o_O
that's what i understand u_ú°
bye ^_^
-
Hehe, no, I don't think that's right.
Once you get a cookie. You keep it. But, if you do something that upsets someone in some sort of way, someone can eat your cookie. But they can't take more than one unless they wait at least 5 hours.
....or so I've come to undersantd.
Here, I give you a cookie!
-
no it means you have to wait between giving/taking cookies.
-
Whoops. [smacks head]
Hmmm...now i'm confused...isn't that what I said?
[sigh] Totally lost now.
-
don't worry, just join the club, the whole thing is confusing for a while, but you will get use to it :D
-
LOL..everyone is so confused with cookies...but at least we know how to GIVE ppl cookies and that's already very good XDDD Keep givin' stop stealin' <--that is my motto. XD
-
a bit suggestion..if u increase the # of posts (as in 100 posts for now), some members might start to "splash" in the forum-as in spamming-to get to that # of posts xP~~i dunno..thatz just what i thought XD
-

yep that's very true...i've asked this question to Little Wolf before and well i think its still under consideration....so, okay i have an idea...maybe each post was have a minimum number of words....like around 15? so ppl won't post some realy short post in here?
-
possible to be done with a bit of work, but LW can decide. and I think it maybe time to up the limit aswell.
-
ya..i guess that's a good idea~others forums had applied that rule and it worked out fine ^_^~anyway, all the decisions go to u guys lolz..support!
-
well if they spam just to get thier posts up they arnt very good members then are they -.-
-
I've now up the required number of posts to 200 just for people information.
-
[sigh] and just when I was used to giving cookies.
Oh well. 30 more to go.
-
wa....so many posts now...but i guess its a gd way for security needs.
-
yeap, more reason to keep posting, as more and more people pass 200 it will be upped again. But eventually there will reach a time when the limit will not be upped anymore.
-
Sounds good. And fair.
-
Pretty reasonable to me... :)
-
uhuh..itz just for the forum's good =)~support!
-
Yes yes. Also I want to ask, before you updated the min. to 200, and the people before that got a 100 posts, but not to 200 posts, is the option still avaliable for them??( which means, is the option permanent)
-
nope, must have 200 posts (on your post-counter) or higher at any time
-
ganbate~~lumi~~!!! i'll be cheering you on~ :D
-
yea ganbatte...ur near to ur goal XDD and just take ur time :)
-
Ok Thx SLî ^^ Btw, one more question. Its about if we eat or steal a cookie, do we have to pm the person, or just leave it a secret ?
-
totally up to you :D
-
how do u steal a cookie. eat it while the're not looking lol
-
would you know who gave you the cookies? or if they want to they can pm you to let you know?
-
would you know who gave you the cookies? or if they want to they can pm you to let you know?
Actually I think this question is raised a several times, firstly you won't know who gave you the cookie unless the person who gave you the cookie tells you, and by the way, only the admin could know who steal/gave cookies. I think its up to the person, if she/he wants to inform you about the cookie giving.
-
Oh!! that look's fun well i would do go thing to have a cookie *-*
Yeah serching for go thing to gif to my lovely friends ^^

oh.. hahaha.. my bad... -_-; :) thx! i was wondering this for quite a while now..
-
I've now up the required number of posts to 200 just for people information.
Looks like I won't be giving out any cookies anytime soon but that's okay. It's the quality of posts, not the quantity.
I also have a more famous saying I use in all of my groups and forums:
POST NOW...POST OFTEN!!! :)
-
Cookies, huh? xD
I love the idea of giving cookies to people, and stealing from them. Ha ha. It's the most original "ratings" system I've ever seen. Beats the original karma system anyday. ^^
-

I aboslutely agree on your point, its the quality that matters. I'm trying to make people understand this point, but seems that they don't * sigh* But anywayz, its my duty to be the "baddie" and tell everyone to abide by the rukes :P
-
LOL. Well, seriously i do agree that some people were spamming before, but the situation has definately turned to a more brighter side these days and its just impressive. I have to admit i have kind of pissed for the last few weeks, to see some spams...and I kind of lost interest in posting replies...but since this forum is under gd healing...XD i'm totally okay with it.
Btw, yea the cookies system was very original...but still the system of 'stealing' could be improved with more rules...but for the rules......hm...
-
[sigh] Rules, rules, rules.
I'll leave the rules to you smart people.
I'll just do what you say!
-
The required number of posts has now been raised to 400.
Which means you need 400 or more on your post counter in order to give/take cookies
-

Figures...I figured about another week or so before I would've hit the 200...then it's upped to 400? Life is so cruel...
Heh. Not the end of the world. POST NOW!!! POST OFTEN!!! :D
-
Oh .....wow.
I've better get posting again.
[sniffle] and I was just getting used to giving cookies.
-

*sniff*
-
waaht?! I haven't even reached 100 yet..!! XD waah!.. oh well..
-
That means about 5 people out of 200 members can give cookies.
Weird.
-
And there a few members close to 400, so start posting people :D
-
400! Oh man, I just reached 100!
I guess I better get to work here. :O)
-
Phew...the new rule came in just after I reached 400 and something...that was close....
-
I had to post about 100 more before I could start giving cookies again.
It's always brought up 100 more than what I have posted.
I predict that next time it'll be raised to 600 when I get to 500.
[sigh]
me and my luck.

Its sounds strange for a moderator to post little ( and not being able to give cookies). Well. I don't really mind *shrugs* quality is beter than quantity. Besides I still have other stuff to use *evil cackles* I guess mod work more important that posting :) Aww...next time maybe you two can give me some exceptions?? :P
-
Ow... I can't give Little Wolf cookies for the low quality episodes anymoire >__<
-
I just happened to return back here...and found out that you guys changed the whole post count thing to 400!!! Wow....I was totally freaked out for a second at first.... :heh:
-
*Edited the first post since members have already been asking me how to give/eat cookies* :D
I also lowered the post requirement to 300. I realize 400 is a bit too much to newcomers.
-
but im still wondering who and how someone gave me a cookie. im still not really sure how to get one newayz
-
***I also lowered the post requirement to 300. I realize 400 is a bit too much to newcomers. ***
Cool! Now I am almost able to give the cookies I've promised.
Thanks Little Wolf!
-
i still have a lot to go -.-
-
Are there other ways to get cookies? Such as how many posts you've made, or how many hours you've been on the site?
Also, is the shop still going to open and what will it have?
-
Well...in order to get other cookies you have to win the banner contest... .::ka::. won one and now she got a lot of cookies.
-

As Ralea have said, you can get cookies by joining the banner contest. We might be able to come up with other contests or other ways for members to get cookies in the future.
About the shop, I'm afraid it won't open until late June because I haven't had the time to work on it. Got more important stuff in the site that needs working on. Anyway, the shop will only be a special feature just like the Games section.
-
I've got a question.
I remember someone saying that you couldn't eat anybody's cookies if they're already at 0.
But I look around I see a few members with cookies going into the negative numbers.
What's up with that?
-
Guess it is possible then.
I always thought it wasn't, till I'll saw it myself
-
If I post some fanmade thing - I can get cookies ??
-
if somebody likes it, they may give you a cookie :)
-
Looking back at these posts and the whole 'cookie' set-up, I've come to the conclusion...
They are a waste of time!
Now I know I really don't care about little rewards and stuff like that but it seems odd that people are being rewarded cookies JUST FOR JOINING THE FORUM!!!
Not that I do anything out of the ordinary. I greet n00bs, I write stories, I keep the peace and order in the General Media section. I'd like to think I get along with everyone and hopefully the feeling's mutual, however...
When someone joins the forum and has more cookies than I do, there's something wrong with the system. Now those who rightly deserve them, like the banner winners and those who are extremely helpful with information, they deserve them and the rewards that may come with them but from what I've seen IMO, the system is going on the verge of abuse.
Whether this will be addressed I don't know and truthfully, I really don't care. I pay little attention to things like cookies and post counts. I come here, offer my posts and information and try my best to be as good a member here as I possibly can.
Forgive me if this seems like a rant...but that's what it is. I apologize in advance if anyone's offended by it and I thank you for understanding my position in this situation :)
-
tell that to the people who give the cookies to the people who join
-
tell that to the people who give the cookies to the people who join
Like they would really listen to me about it... :(
-
I'll bring this issue up with Little Wolf the next time he is online and we will see what can be worked out about this.
-
Here's an example:
Name: hoshisenshi
Position: Newbie
Cookies: 6
Date Registered: Yesterday at 08:31:29 AM
Joins up yesterday and already has 6 cookies?!!
-
Well, many of those cookies came from exceptional artwork that they put up.
And they were exceptional for a newbie, actually posting intelligently and being very friendly. They made friends quickly.
And, I see people get cookies for artwork all the time.
I do see what you are saying though, Arcademan.
Cookies should also be given for what people have contributed to the forums over long periods of time. That kind of thing just doesn't seem to be recognized as much. I always thought that people who have been on consistantly and post helpfully over a period of time should get cookies.
-
I never got cookies for my artwork....I think. And I've been here since April! Not that, that makes any difference.
Not that I especially care about the cookie system, but I do agree with Arcademan. It is a bit crazy.
-
Now I'm getting 'pity' cookies. Oy!!!
-
I do understand your point Arcademan. :)
I forgot to verify this but I've taken away already the feature of "eating cookies" so only admins (and mods too, I guess) can do that now. So the problem with cookie-stealing is already solved. Now, we have cookie-giving problems!
Okay, so if I take the same action and restrict giving cookies to admins/mods then that would solve the problem easily. Of course!
SLi and I will think about this. But if you ask me...I think restricting it is the best solution. The only thing that prevents me from doing so at this time is the Shop. Don't worry, I will explain on my next post.
-
Okay, so if I take the same action and restrict giving cookies to admins/mods then that would solve the problem easily. Of course!
Oh, I'd hate to see that happen, Little Wolf-Sama.
It's really nice to be able to give someone a cookie for something that they have done to help you in some way. I am glad that the "take a cookie" is gone, but I think "give a cookie" is working okay, just needs some minor tweaks, maybe.
-

Mods don't have that option (at least I don't) and I think the 'give a cookie' feature IS being abused. Scroll back and see my example and explain to me how a n00b joins up and gets 6 cookies on the first day here and it takes me 4 months to get 4 cookies?!!
The...system...is...flawed...PERIOD!!!
-
I totally agree with Arcademan...
I was one of the few members here first, I never spam...
and seriously, I wasn't showered with cookies when I first post my intro around here.
I think the cookies system is abused...and it gives people in here a wrong impression like:
1) Cookies = popular
2) I post alot and my chance in getting to know more ppl and 'befriend' them can give me a higher chance of gaining cookies.
Anyway I'm just kind of disappointed that ppl just spam around here....so maybe spamming is another problem after cookies.
-
i agree with arcademan on one account.
if people are just giving cookies because someone joins well then, the "give a cookie" feature is being abused.
but then.. here's the catch.
we're supposed to give cookies if people have well.. helped you, if you like someone's fanworks, gave out helpful links, stuff like that, right? well.. let's say a newbie started out by posting fanworks and helpful links and stuff like that and they've received cookies for that. would that be considered abusing the "give a cookie" feature?
i honestly don't think so.
but that's just my personal opinion. i'm trying not to contradict myself here. hah.
-
No, it wouldn't
What is, is just giving cookies just cause you can.
-
but then how would the whole cookie system be fixed? it wouldn't be right to just let the administrators and mods give out cookies because it wouldn't be fair to the rest of us that think that something that someone did is worth a cookie.
-
Easy. It called 'honor'.
Most people have it...and there are those who don't.
-
oh so you're basically saying.. give the "give a cookie" privilege to those who earn it by doing so and so things, right?
that's understandable. but how will you know who gets the honor and who doesn't?
-
Easy again. It's called 'trust'.
When you don't have honor and you don't trust anyone, then you have chaos.
I'm not a Being of Darkness for nothing :evil4:
-
ohh i understand now. that's reasonable!
now the question is.. what's gonna happen with everyone at the forums if this "idea" is taken into action? you're basically just gonna take away everyone's cookie privileges and see who deserves it, right?
-
how about this...
disable the 'give a cookie' system and in the meantime, post a sticky thread stating all the rules about giving cookie,etc.. until a certain amount of posts (say 200-300, so to ensure most of the members knew whats going on) and then resume the cookie system?
-

but see.. the problem is, people can still abuse the cookie system once it's resumed.
-
but at least majority of the people now know the 'rules' about giving cookie.. and if someone abuses this again.. im sure, the rest will remind the offender..
-
but at least majority of the people now know the 'rules' about giving cookie.. and if someone abuses this again.. im sure, the rest will remind the offender..
how would you track down the offender though? it's like SLi, Little Wolf, and all the mods would have to keep tabs on who's giving cookies to who.
and if you already are keeping tabs on who gives cookies to who.. i just gave bLuetopaz a cookie for sending me a link that i really wanted. hah. that's not abusing the system, is it?
-

I stand by my original post but I have a possible solution to this, which I will talk to the powers-to-be about it and not the public at large.
-
Feel Free to send me a PM :D
-
okay arcademan! we'll see what your possible solution is once it's in action. hopefully you'll tell us what's going on after you've talked with the "powers-to-be".
-
Admins can see who gives cookies out anyway so if they wanted to they could ask the people doing it to be more careful with thier cookies.
-
oh see. now i understand the cookie system. thanks vexnet.
-
Admins can see who gives cookies out anyway so if they wanted to they could ask the people doing it to be more careful with thier cookies.
We can but it's not easy. We'd have to search for it in the forum's database which is not very easy because only member IDs are recorded there. This cookie system would have been better if there was a page where we could monitor who gives cookies but there is no page like that yet.
Anyway, I have better plans now for this forum because.. honestly. I think things are really starting to get out of hand now here.

hm what kind of plans would these be?
posting options, cookies, access, topics, layout?

yeah, i would really like to know what plans. it's most likely going to be with the whole cookie system, right?
-
does it means that the whole cookie system is gonna change? what are u planning to do?
-
People...patience...I'm sure he has the best intentions of the forum in mind :)
-
*sigh* i bet he does. i just really want to know and soon!
-
Um... excuse me... Correct me if im wrong... but... :sweatdrop: when a person reached 100 posts, will he automatically have cookies?
-
No
Once you get to 300 posts you can give others cookies
-
100 to see the link? and 300 to give cookies? got to work hard, so many people deserve cookies!!
-
That's gonna take me forever!
is there a limit to the amount of cookies you give >.>
-
That's gonna take me forever!
is there a limit to the amount of cookies you give >.>
There's only one type of limit. I'll use myself as the example. Let's say you want to find a picture and offer a member 2 cookies for finding it. I go looking for that picture and I find it. I give you the link, and you give me my first cookie. Then you decide to give me the second cookie, but this webpage comes up saying that you can't use a karma action for 5 more hours. This means that you can't give me another cookie for 5 hours.
As far as giving cookies to members, I have yet to find out if there is a limit. And when I give cookies, I can be very giving! Ask just about anybody here. :sweatdrop:
Also, don't worry about making it to 300. You'll make it there in no time! I never though I would make it to 1,000, and I'm well over 3200 posts!

Quoted for truth. I still stand by my original statement.
-
Agreed.
But until a worthwhile solution can be found, I guess we are stuck.
-
Maybe if someone gives a person a cookie, they have to explain why and a moderator can agree or disagree whether the cookie should be awarded. Of cource, the big drawback to that theory is it's subject to the opinion of a mod and it also creates what amounts to another annoying step and more work.
As you said...guess we're stuck with it until a better solution comes along.
-
I hope there is a better solution out there......I mean, I understand giving cookies as rewards, or possibly to a member of your forum family on their birthday......
But a lot of people give them to Newbies in the Intro thread, as welcoming gifts.....and there's no way that they could have done anything for the forum yet to deserve them..... :(
-
^..but it makes them feel welcomed =\
ahh well, when i'm allowed to give cookies i'll give people i like cookies >.>
-
ahh well, when i'm allowed to give cookies i'll give people i like cookies >.>
And it's because of this reason why cookies do not work. You're only adding to the problem than being part of the solution!
Cookies should be given out as a reward and not part of a popularity contest!!!
-
So far, all my cookies i earned -_- ..i think

i totally agree with Arcademan.
if giving cookies for the sake of popularity.. im sorry pal, you are in a the wrong forum..

I'm not mad...not closely.

One advice babypigggy-chan, and don't think I'm lecturing you, but don't say you like it when people get mad, and you become mad at them. You lose the right to say you hate seeing people get mad.
Cookies should be given out as a reward and not part of a popularity contest!!!
I completely agree with this! :okay:
-
^ well since if you get cookies, you're named as most popular in the stats -_-
people take it that way..
-
Unfortunetly, thats not what that means.
The system is flawed and needs fixing, just that there is no worthwhile solution at the moment.
-
^ well since if you get cookies, you're named as most popular in the stats -_-

Don't take this the wrong way...but you really don't have a clue on this, do you?!!
-
i hate people doing that! they think i'm stoopid cause i'm trying to make a point -_-
it clearly states taht cookies are for good deeds, but it's a diff story if you look at the stats
-

Which is why I said cookies don't work...
What part of my statement do you NOT understand?!!
Consider this topic done with. I'm done dealing with this. Read all of my previous posts. Oy!!!

i was wondering.. why should you look at the stats for? is it so important to be popular here?
*sigh*

Naw, im just checking around ^_^
-
I've never heard of this system before. Interesting! Shops are really fun on message boards!

Okay. I'm glad this thread is here. I was a little confused about the whole cookie thing when I joined. Thanks for clearing everything up!
-
As you can see, it's still a 'work in progress'. One of these days, we'll figure out what to do with all of these cookies
-
Glad you said 'One of these days' :XD:
-
Can i just ask,, *not like im going to do it* can you eat people's cookies?
-
Can i just ask,, *not like im going to do it* can you eat people's cookies?
There was an option a long time ago where other members could 'eat' other's cookies but it was taken off...a good idea especially if someone got mad at another person and retaliate by munching on cookies.
One of these days, we'll figure it out but I'll say this...
I have something in the works... :surprised:
-
Okay...after a pow-wow with the other mods, we have decided this...
Nothing definitive
However if anyone here knows any good ideas on what cookies can be used for, now's the time to present your case. Use cookies for forum benefits, online store, auction off items...we're listening :)
-
they can be used to measure the girth of the earth.
-
Most often, I usually give my cookies to either cheer a person up, give as a birthday present since I su** horribly at making graphics, or if they do a wonderful job on either a fanfic, graphic or AMV. My thoughts are to use them for only rewards, and not so much as a popularity gimmick.
Some of the cookies I've received through rewards, such as stating where to find an episode download, or how to work a particular download. Also, I've received them in an attempt to cheer me up when I'm depressed. I actually hate that. It has come to the point that the new members think that the more cookies a person has, the more popular a person is and I don't want people to like me just because I have a lot of cookies. I want them to like me based on their own discretion and their own reasons.
Furthermore, I want people to know that the only reason I have so many cookies is that I am helpful or I have something to contribute. If we quit giving cookies in an attempt to cheer people up, and explain that they're more like rewards, instead of a popularity item, then the system might work. Also, for those that cannot give a proper birthday present for members, then cookies should also be given then because birthdays should contain at least one present.
I hope that this annoying ramble offered some help.
-
Well said, moezy-chan.
Cookies should be given as awards, not to cheer people up(I don't know where, but once someone gave another a "don't-mind-the-period-cookie"... :tard:)
They are also given out by SLi and Little Wolf in the calendar contests and other such things. The only thing that's a bit odd about it is the "Most popular" thing in the stats. But who cares anyway~...
I give my cookies to someone who has either helped me with something, or has done a pretty picture/AMV that I liked.
As for Arcademan/PixieP's question about what to do with cookies, I have no idea... :sweatdrop:
-
I know in the beginning it seemed like i enjoyed the popularity thing, but in the stats..is it changable? cause its somewhat missleading =\
I thought you guys said, we could use cookies to purchase stuff at the store? o-O"

That was an original possible use for cookies when CapturedWings was formed. We're exploring different options and want to hear from the valued members on what they would like to see happen to 'cookies' like a store option, auctions and the like for one-of-a-kind icon symbols and who knows...actual CCS and TRC items. As I said...exploring and discussing all ideas
-
the TRC & CCS thing is cool ^______^;;
i think alot of people - especially tiny little peeeps like me would really love that!
-
I second that! An auction/shop of CCS and TRC items sounds really interesting!
-
It could happen. I have extra goodies in my massive CCS collection that I can use and give away if we decide to go this route. The mods and administrators are discussing all options. Stay tuned!
-
wow!! that's awesome ><"
-
Why are n00bs getting cookies?!!
Someone joins...gets 2 cookies right off the bat!!!
Someone posts a lot of pictures, they get cookies!!!
I was working on possibly doing a little auction and prize giveaway for those with cookies can cash in and get some cool stuff but since the system is being abused, I NO LONGER will do this!!!
-
..=\ ...so..you don't want us to easily give cookies?
one more thing, i accidentally bought cookies at the shop cause ERR IT SAYS KARMA! So I didn't know.. -_-;; Maybe..someone can take that off. O_O
-
Hmm...maybe it should be made that you can only give cookies by request?
Maybe PM a mod with a valid reason as to why you wish to give someone a cookie?
Sure it's a pain in the butt, but if people feel the system is being abused, there's one way to solve it.
-
Really?
Guess I must of missed the memo

Well.. ><" that is kind of a drag..its cutting the freedom of this forum
but so many people abuse the "give a cookie" method i mean, if there is no other choice then i guess that's all we can do.
-
Maybe we should encourage people to read the rules.
-
Maybe we should encourage people to read the rules.
but the rules won't stop people from abusing the "give a cookie" method. i mean, you could have every person read the rules on this forum but it won't stop anyone from doing it again. you know what i mean? it has to be enforced, like, there has to be a consequence if the method is abused and what not.
-
i've looked at all posts here clearly....but on one mentioned where the shop is!
or is it just me that doesn't know where it is...
-
O______O""
Well.. ><" that is kind of a drag..its cutting the freedom of this forum
Well, as the popularity of this forum rose, I've noticed quite a few freedoms have been cut off. The consequences of having a large community, I guess. More Rules = More People Abusing Them
-

definitely. the more people join, the more people are more likely to abuse them. plus, you're never certain that anyone will read the rules. it's not like you can sit down next to them and watch them read the rules word for word. you just have to trust that they did.
-

So true. I always make it a habit to read the rules. Last thing I want is to get kicked off. If only people were more considerate.
-

You know you're off topic. But I'll tell you, It happens to me too. When I first come on the forums, i appear unlogged in. And that's the only time i can see the shop O_O"
Maybe someone should post some reasons for cookie giving for people to read.
And if you tell some of the newer members that they're not following hte rulles, they usually think you're rude and mean or whatever.
-

the point i'm trying to get across about the cookies is that even with reasons on why cookies should be given, it doesn't mean people will actually obey them. you can't control what people do or what they will give cookies for. you definitely can't control the person giving a cookie from putting their cursor onto the "give a cookie" link.
maybe.. you could do it like this. you have the give a cookie link to those who reach the post limit and if they are going to give a cookie, it brings them to another page where they can send the admins (without using a PM, maybe like a post!) why they want to give so and so a cookie. and the admins can approve it.
.. i don't know. does that make sense? i'm just trying to help. `=)
-
Great idea, aishiteru! ^_^
Pretty much the same as my idea . .. just a little less of a hassle, haha.
I actually would have no problem with that. I think it certainly would help out with the cookie-abusing.

Thanks for the concerns, comments and suggestions.
Despite my little outburst a few posts ago, the administration and moderators are trying to come up with what would be a fair and interesting plan on this whole cookies senerio. It may take some time to figure it out but just wanted to let everyone know we haven't forgotten about it.

yes yes, i agree with moezy-chan. it's good to hear that you all are trying to come up with an answer to the cookie problem. good luck on finding an appropriate answer! i hope it turns out for the best.
