I wonder who's going to continue his program, or his works for that matter. Having someone like him is nice on TV.

Wow, news travel fast... I only saw it on the news about 2 hours ago... ^^; It really is tragic, dying at the age of 44, just only about halfway through your life. x_x He contributed so much too. (Remembered that he once discovered a new species of tortoise/turtle/terrapin.)

When my friend IM-ed me the news I really couldn't take it well. I kept saying "You're joking..." It just seems so hard to believe he's gone! I always thought that he'd live longer!

He was the most entertaining man ever... and I love the dedication he showed and the love towards the animals. People may call him crazy... but I thought he was awesome.

God bless you, Steve Irwin. What you've left in this world shall never be forgotten.
Title: Stingray kills 'Crocodile Hunter'

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin Dies (http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/09/04/australia.irwin/index.html)

Quote
SYDNEY, Australia (CNN) -- Steve Irwin, the TV presenter known as the "Crocodile Hunter," has died after being stung by a stingray in a marine accident off Australia's north coast.

Media reports say Irwin was diving in waters off Port Douglas, north of Cairns, when the incident happened on Monday morning.

Irwin, 44 was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest, according to Cairns police sources. Irwin was filming an underwater documentary at the time.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality Monday morning off Port Douglas, according to Australian media. (Watch scenes of Irwin, known for his his enthusiasm, support for conservation -- 2:49)

Queensland Police Services also confirmed Irwin's death and said his family had been notified. Irwin was director of the Australian Zoo in Queensland.

He is survived by his American-born wife Terri and their two children, Bindi Sue, born 1998, and Robert (Bob), born December 2003.

Irwin became a popular figure on Australian and international television through Irwin's close handling of wildlife, most notably the capture and relocation of crocodiles.

Irwin's enthusiastic approach to nature conservation and the environment won him a global following. He was known for his exuberance and use of the catch phrase "Crikey!"

But his image suffered a setback in January 2004 when he held his then 1-month-old baby Bob while feeding a crocodile at his Australian zoo. (Full story)

In a statement released to Australian media, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer expressed his sorrow and said that he was fond of Irwin and was very appreciative of all the work he had done in promoting Australia overseas.

In 2003, Irwin spoke to the Australian Broadcasting Corp.'s Australian Story television program about how he was perceived in his home country.

"When I see what's happened all over the world, they're looking at me as this very popular, wildlife warrior Australian bloke," he said, the ABC reported.

"And yet back here in my own country, some people find me a little bit embarrassing. "You know, there's this... they kind of cringe, you know, 'cause I'm coming out with 'Crikey' and 'Look at this beauty.'"

Quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Irwin
Irwin discovered a new species of turtle that now bears his name, Elseya irwini — Irwin's Turtle — a type of snapping turtle found on the coast of Queensland.
Everyone from my school was passing around to add a turtle emoticon on their msn nick to commemorate his death. (At first I thought it was an msn glitch... :sweatdrop:)

yes, it does exist, but it won't be out to public. On news couple days ago, they were doing some voting whether the video should be released or not, and most people say NO. And yeah, there was some old lady that make fun about the video, and it's even on the news and most people despise that lady now (I forgot the name , I just remember that her initial is GG :heh:)

I'm not sure is this is ture, but I heard from a friend that a bunch of sting rays were found dead at a beach in Australia and all of their tails got cut off.  People must have wanted revenge, but I don't think that Steve would be happy about people killing them though.  I don't think that he would even mad at the sting ray that killed him.

OMG that's bad.. i'm sure Steve wouldn't be pleased if he found out that those stingrays are killed because of him.. he's such an environmental activitists.. fans would have known better that he would want the stingrays to live on peacefully instead of having them killed as revenge for his death

it was REALLY huge. lots of ppl watched and it was broadcasted live as well. i was at uni at the time and we have this big screen in one of the buildings... everyone was gathered round it to watch the memorial.

anywayz, there were aussie singers who sang... ppl reading out poems... even bindy had a few words to say.
