Sorry if this is already a topic. But I was sort of curious as to what non-anime books everyone read here, if they read non-anime. =P

for summer reading (bleh! XP): 1984 by George Orwell

both good books!! now, if only manga were on summer reading lists...^.^

Here in Brazil we have to make exams to enter the university, so I'm reading the books for it... The last I read was "O Primo Basílio" - it means Cousin Basílio, by Eça de Queirós a portuguese writer. I liked the story, but the descriptions are very long and it bored me so much. Now I'm reading Sagarana, that is a book with many stories about the countryside of Brazil, and it's the worst book....... I still have to read 3 books till november.....

It's a book written by Paulo Coelho, isn't it? I've already read it too. I liked it but I thought it would be better. In its original form it's called O Alquimista, maybe it was translated to The Alchemist?

Talking to reading, I'm still in Sagarana for almost two months now.... and I still have to read other two till November............

I feel so bad for Simon! He was my favorite character and he died! Nooo! He was only trying to warn them about the beast and they were so crazy that they killed him! :cry: Simon kinda reminded me of Syaoran for some reason. :sweatdrop: Maybe because they're both brave, loners and don't fear death. Oh, and I hate Jack! :angry: He's so wild, insane, crazy and just plain stupid! And Piggy died too, Noo! :cry: And the "biguns" were so mean to the "littleuns!" They told the to shut up when they cried and didn't care about them at all! :( Though, thats how most boys are I guess...non-affectionate. And the ending of the book was so sad, too! I was crying in the end and when Simon was killed. :cry: Okay, someone stop me! Haha! :D
But overall I thought it was really good! :keke:

I liked Simon as well  but I hated the book even more after the "dance"  I personally didn't think the author had a CLUE!  how in the world did they end up in the pacific when they were being transported out of london to safe places?  If piggy was only nearsighted (there is a word in there that implies piggy as nearsighted)  Why couldn't he see his own hand in front of his face?  Why was there a "dog fight" out in the middle of the pacific AFTER WW2 was ended?  And well I won't say anything about the ending which was rushed so I don't spoil it for people.  But there were some major mistakes there too.  Anyway I should stop because this  is a bit off topic...  Sorry

ooo i rememvber reading that...(or was hat the aneid... ah, that was 3 years ago anyway, had to translate part of the original text as a project grade...heh, lukily the book i took off the shelf had someone from before's notes...it was halfway translated for me....i only used them as reference, and still neede to translate the rest of the passage, but still i never woulda gotten that c on that progect :sweatdrop:

A really good dog book is Where the Red Fern Grows (if you haven't read it yet of course)   Really good but really sad.

Girl With A Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier - It's an awesome book, it blew me away. It brought back some SyaoranxSakura fanfic moments. I love the style, and the detail is wonderful.

not that i know of. i havent checked amazon lately, so i dont even know if theres a title. but i cant wait, especialy after the way book 12 ended ... O.o

EDIT: ok there IS a product page on amazon, but the title they have for is rumored to be false. the real title wont be revealed till closer to its release date, shich is acotber 1st, (the fake title is "The End" and the covor loks funny. its just a black spot in that arch window thing and it says something like "...Too dreadful to picture" or something like htat.
\and aparently, acording to some forum posts (when did amazon get forums??) lemony snicket's real name is Daniel Handler.

Kalevala, the Finnish national epic, put together by Elias Lönnrot. It's wonderful reading! I love the meter, and, really, how many mythologies (if you can call Kalevala that...) can brag about having a lingonberry getting a girl pregnant?

Yes, and it's an absolutely wonderful, witty and silly book. Middle-East children's fantasy yay! I personally don't think it's quite, quite as good as Howl's Moving Castle, but it's not far behind. I just finished it last night myself.

I've also been reading the later of Tove Jansson's Moomin books (Tales from Moominvalley, Moominvalley in November, Moominpappa at Sea), for the very first time I might add. Now I deeply regret not reading them as a child, but then again, the melancholy ambience in those books is perhaps best appreciated by adults.

It is, isn't it? I've recently started on the His Dark Materials trilogy (I am currently about halfway through The Amber Spyglass). It was the announcement of the coming movie that triggered the 'Gosh, I really need to come around to reading these books now' reaction for me. It's nice to find youth's literature with such an intelligent plot, and that so clearly take a stand against religion.

There are some "secret parts" or "fan service" stephenie has on her web page. you can find the webpage in a google search or look in your book (it is there beneath the photo of stephenie) I already bought my "Edward Cullen Official Fan Club" shirt and I'm planning on buying more Twilight Saga related stuff after catching up with all my Manga\ Anime needs! XD

i just read almost all thats writen on the lexicon XD... ive read almost all the out takes and extras off of stephenies site,  (it sux that the indepth look at Emmett's story didnt make the books. his is the least sad.XD) *sigh* almost a year till the fourth comes out v_v. and 2 for midnight sun (Edwards POV of Twilight) Dx
