Title: TOKYOPOP restucturing; layoffs and possible cancelling titles
Post by: Arcademan on June 04 2008, 10:37 am
ANN printed a Tuesday press release (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2008-06-03/tokyopop-spins-off-media-company-in-reorganization) from Tokyopop in which TP announced that it will spin off its newly established comics-to-film and digital units into a new company called TOKYOPOP Media.  In the restructuring, 39 positions within the company have been eliminated.  Also of note in the press release was the statement that TP will be "significantly reducing our annual output, focusing on the most successful continuing series, and most promising new titles."

This hit me a little more than many people since two of the TP editors that were part of the Forum Administration and Moderating team were part of the 39 whose positions were eliminated. I feel bad for them and wish them as well as the others best of luck.
