Title: Howl's Moving Castle
Post by: sugarblossom on May 02 2005, 11:29 am
Anyone heard of the newest release from Miyazaki, Howl's Moving Castle? I have tons of friends who are already obsessed with it, gathered info and all the fangirlyness. Its been previewed in Japan, and my friend told me its been previewed in Hong Kong already. I've already picked up the original book Miyazaki has taken the idea from -- Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. Anyone know more information, or maybe going to be interested watching it when its licensed?

I can't wait till it gets to Canada. I'm a big fan of Miyazaki's works, and I can't wait!

I read the book a couple of years ago, and it was so awesome, truly a magnificent book, cant wait till it comes out dubbed/subbed for DVD. ^^

I've seen the movie. The story was a little confusing when I saw it the first time. But I really like it especially howl and sofie. I also like Takuya Kimura's voice. Then I went to buy the book and discovered that the movie's storyline was quite different from the book.

Yup, there's always changes to adaptions. I for one am waiting for the movie when it comes in Canada.

How did you watch it pinklacus, is it out on dvd, I'm pretty sure it isn't, but I could be wrong

I've heard a lot of good things about this movie, and if Miyazaki's doing it, then it's gotta be good! I love the original book....but exactly how much of the plot got chnaged for the actual movie? Does anyone know?
Title: Re: Howl's Moving Castle
Post by: fisah on May 02 2005, 02:33 pm
I read the book, but I have yet to see the movie. I really want to see it though, but I'm not that worried by the changes, this is Miyazaki after all, the King of anime movies, so I think it will turn out just fine ^^

I think about 80 to 90% of the plot got changed for the movie.

OMG! I'm not sure I wanna watch it then, unless it had the same ending...but then again, Miyazaki, is very good.....

Anyone have nay opinions of theirown which could help me out?
Title: Re: Howl's Moving Castle
Post by: pinklacus on May 02 2005, 03:45 pm
The ending of the movie was almost the same as that of the book especially the last scene was quite romantic.

The movie focused on sofie's determination and courage to change her fate and break the curse. It also show how sofie influenced other people like howl and the witch.

The movie didn't talk much about sofie's sisters and howl's family.

I just watched the trailer for Howl's Moving Castle that was posted here and it looks really, really, good!  It looks like this is going to be one of the best Miyazaki films yet!  I love Miyazaki-san's works, so I'm really looking forward to this movie!  But since this movie has already been licensed for the U.S., even if Howl's Moving Castle is released on DVD in Japan, does that mean there won't be any fansubs for it?  I sure hope there will be because I want to see this movie so badly!  I can't wait for the R1 DVD release!  Maybe the R2 DVDs will have English subtitles on them, since I think all of Studio Ghibili's other movies have subtitles.  It's a shame that this movie is only getting a limited release in U.S. theaters.  Why can't Disney understand that anime is a lot more popular than it used to be and give these movies the proper theatetrical release they deserve?  Spirited Away even won an Oscar despite the fact that it had a limited release, so why can't Disney give Howl's Moving Castle a chance with a U.S. wide release?  Sigh, this movie most likely won't be playing in theaters around here.  It's too bad too because this looks like such an awesome movie.  Does anyone happen to have a list of which cities this movie will be playing at?

He does look kinda like Haku...but not that much, so that's good. But on the Japanese site, the grey haired young gril in the beginning looks just like Haku!

This film looks great! I hope it comes out in the Uk!
Title: Re: Howl's Moving Castle
Post by: fisah on May 31 2005, 09:32 am
It will come out in the UK, I have a friend who is in love with the book by Diana, a english author, so it will be aired there, at least, that's what my friend told me.

Howl does look like Haku a little, mind you, there is a hair color difference.

Post by: Ruby Chan on May 31 2005, 09:57 pm
I love the book too...but the sequel was rubbish....I hope that doesn't get made into an anime movie too...

And I do get what you're on about with the Haku/Howl thing...I just think the grey haired girl looks more like him, LOL.

Post by: satsuki-chan on May 31 2005, 10:10 pm
eh...? the grey haired lady? no way! but the boy with the star in his hand with bue/black hair is also howl. but then i guess you guys most probably already realised...

Post by: Ruby Chan on May 31 2005, 10:11 pm
If you look at the japanese site, there's a young girl with grey hair shown as the opening loads...that's who I mean.

Just checking, the sequel ISN'T being made into a movie too, is it?

ME SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY IT'S COMING! I love the book so much and it'll be nice to see what the movies like, regardless of how different it is to book. I've been waiting for it since it was first annonced!

Actually, I don't know what I'm talking about, thought you were talking about Howl, but I guess...erm, nevermind, LOL?

Cant wait for the movie either! It really does look promising!

I loved this movie. It was amazing, just like all of Miyazaki's other works. It wasn't the best though. I think Mononoke Hime and Spirited Away are both better than Howl's Moving Castle. It has a confusing plot but the art is in Miyazaki's signature quality.
Title: Re: Howl's Moving Castle
Post by: fisah on June 01 2005, 01:04 pm
Yes, the art is so beautiful, not to mention the bgm and songs! Totally getting a soundtrack!

Spirited Away is my all time favourite film, I just loved it, it was so wonderful, and well, amazing in short, LOL

:sad5: The problem is that... I have to wait until September to see this movie! And I'm going back to school the very day it's coming out! It's such a sod's law, isn't it!!!  I see what people mean about Howl looking a little bit like Haku, but I've been following this movie since there were only teaser trailers out... Like ever since it was annocenced! Like since 2002, after SA came out... *sigh* It took so long but it was worth the long long wait.

It's an honour to be able to say that the original story came from a popular British author ^_^ I'm glad Diana Wynne Jones liked HMC the movie, when you consider that the wriet of Kiki's Delivery Service hated her adaption.

I loved the book HMC, it always cheers me up when I read it!

Boxtorrents.com has a cam rip of the movie for download, but it's recorded from the movie theaters, so don't expect the best kind of quality.  I haven't downloaded it yet.  I'm going to wait for the DVD release.

I was originally going to wait for the DVD release of this movie to watch it, but I couldn't wait for it anymore so I went ahead and downloaded a cam rip for it!  Surprisingly, the quality of the file wasn't too bad for a cam rip.  The camera wasn't shaky at all, there weren't lots of people talking in the movie theater, the picture didn't look too dark, you could see the subtitles perfectly, and if it wasn't for the few people who got up during the movie, you probably wouldn't be able to tell that it was even a cam rip!  I'm still going to buy the official DVD for this when it comes out, though.  I've only seen the Japanese version but I really want to see the dub.  It looks very good from the trailer I saw!  Anyway, Howl's Moving Castle has now become my new fav Miyazaki film!  I just love it so much!  The characters were all great, the story was awesome, the animation was incredibly good as was the music; I just couldn't find anything wrong with this movie at all!

Well, some stuff could've been explained more clearly but hey, it's anime!  Since when has anime ever explained anything clearly? ^^;; And Howl is probably the hottest character to appear in a Miyazaki film yet! *drools* I don't see why so many critics are giving this movie negative reviews.  Sure it isn't anything like Miyazaki-san's previous films but it's still a very good movie!  A lot of critics thought the movie was too confusing but I didn't find anything confusing in it.  It's just one of those movies where you actually have to pay attention to while you're watching it and I guess America just isn't used to animation being like that.  Anyway, I loved this movie and I'm definetly going to buy the DVD for it!  I also really want to read the book!  Hopefully Walden's will have it and if they do, I'm definetly getting it!  I hope this movie wins some sort of Oscar like Spirited Away did!  By the way, does anyone know if this movie is going to have a soundtrack released and if so win?
Title: Re: Howl's Moving Castle
Post by: lika-chi on June 22 2005, 02:35 am
my quality of the movie was great except all the people talking. just like yours the camera wasn't shaky AT ALL. it was really bright for a cam rip. i didn't even know it was from the theatres until someone started talking. no one got up during the movie either. which was great.

i haven't seen the jap version since mine doesn't have english subs. which sucks. i was stuck watching the cantonese one. it was still ok though. XD hehe.

HAHA howl was hot. ^_^ he was indeed.. everything was so cool about him. HAHA!! it was confusing?? really.. how?? i think i got the whole movie. it's still playing in my head. HAHA! even though i watched the cat's return right after it. ^^. i want to go get the book and read it now. must go to the nearest book store NOW!!

so i'm going to buy the original dvd when it comes out.. better be soon. and getting the book. YES!! the first book i have read in ages.. LMAO!

ALL of miyazaki's films are absolutely amazing. they should all win at least some rewards. XD

you can go to this website too.

http://tokyotosho.com

that website has ALL bittorrent from ALL websites. everything, i'm serious. from all lanuages. i believe i searched howl's moving castle yesterday. there was something. there's a subbed. i think. *thinks. don't really remember. go check it out though.

I checked tokyotosho, and alas, they only have the cam rip. I guess a raw, clean, version wont come out unless its in dvd format.

I can always go to theatres, but I'd really like the original. I mean, will they change the songs, will the voice acting suck, I really don't know.

But its better than nothing, right? ^^"
