CCS Newest English Dub - Some things I've noticed
(1/1)
D.J.P:
Been watching the new english dub.
Just a few notes (as I've only watched to episode 9 so-far). I will update this list as I watch through.
- Voices (Some are alright but some aren't - particularly the girls)
- First Episode - Tomoyo mentions dad
- Occasional Lip Sync issues (keep moving before or after speech begins/ends)
- Episode 7 - Yukki's voice - seems they choice a male voice not realizing she is a girl
- Touya doesn't say Ukki
- Episode 9 - first time a close translation of key awakening
- Sealing phrase (again episode 9's is a little better)
- The way Keroberos is said
- Missing dialogue in some places
- Some Characters saying Characters first names when they shouldn't
Overall I'm happy for a decent dub this time that is staying pretty faithful (I know dialogue is always an issue with English dubs where they want to retain the option to listen in Japanese - since they can't alter lip movements)
Arcademan:
I need to sit down and watch the English dubbed version when I have the time. I saw Episode 1 briefly however was immediately turned off by the name 'Sa-koo-ra'.
D.J.P:
Been watching more recently, though I have been watching them with my niece so haven't been taking as detailed notes.
In no particular order:
Meilin's Voice is way to deep (1st Season), 2nd season is lighter (again a change of voice actor?)
Couple of Missing dialogue sections in the Return Card Episode (to be fair the subtitles do say so at the beginning but is brief enough you might not be able to read it)
Touya's voice seems to have changed between first and second seasons (little lighter - don't know if a change of voice actor or not, I'm thinking yes)
- On the plus side he started saying 'Yuki' in the second season.
Li saying 'Sakura' or 'Tomoyo' often (until near the end of show it was just hey or you for Sakura and Tomoyo by last name)
Meilin saying 'Sakura' aswell (its been a while since I watched in Japanese but I'm pretty sure she uses Kinomoto)
Still first names been said when they shouldn't be (other characters)
Song card episode - doesn't have the card's singing until the capture (did the Japanese version do the same - been too long and I can't be bothered to check :) )
Final thing at the moment, while I don't mind them retaining the songs in Japanese (in show and beginning/ending), it might of been nice for them to try
Edit:
Ok, Clow Card Arc Complete:
Wei - Season 2 VA Changed
Yue pronounced as You (even though a earlier episode had Kero Say it properly)
Episode 45: Twice Li said 'The Clow Reed'
Episode 46 - Yamazaki called Chiharu by her first name in the 'loveless' sequence
Will post Season 3 Thoughts when I've completed it :)
D.J.P:
Finished it all - I'd forgotten how long it takes to watch all 70 episodes :)
So my last observations and nit-picks:
More Lip Sync Issues (movement before speech)
Not once was Keroberos said by anyone.
Spinel's Name pretty sure was Spinel and Nakura's shorten version - Suppi) - not Spinner/Spinni
Not once did Chihuru call Yamazaki by his first name - did she in the Japanese version?, I can't remember
Li's attack calls (when using his magic papers)
EP47/Ep48 - 'The Clow Reed' again!
EP49 - The Clow Reed Again then just Clow Reed in the same section
EP50 - Sakura says 'Big Brother' (the only time I believe)
Ep51 - More Undubbed Scenes (might of been skipped since it was 'inner dialogue')
EP56 - 'Spinni' LOL
EP59 - Their conversation upon Tomoyo hearing Sakura call Li, Shaoran
EP67 - Inconsistency: (Sakura says Li )
EP69:
-Kero says he and Yukito saw Clow die instead of Him & Yue
- 'The Clow' spoken instead of Just Clow - sorry didn't record who said it
- Should Li have said like instead of love when confessing to Sakura?
EP70 :
- Even more undubbed scenes (end part after credits and Sakura standing alone at the airport)
- Eriol address Yue as Yukito
Final Thoughts.
Not the worse dub I've watched and much better then <censored abomination>
Considering my list above, a little bit more attention to detail needed to be done but oh-well.
Edit: Just watched the second movie dub again, and its attention to detail is much better in a lot of ways and it came before this. But I don't think we will ever get another dub of CCS so it will just have to do I suppose.
I will be rewatching again (my niece will want to finish watching it, since she hasn't finished the first season yet) so I might add more.
Arcademan:
Nice notes on the new dub. I may need to watch it soon and put in my two cents on it as well ;)
