ROH on HDNet Live Results: 10-18-10
Result courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). There was only one match on the show.
1 -- TYLER BLACK vs. DAVEY RICHARDS
The match quickly moved to the outside where chops were exchanged at a fast pace. Black dominated early on as the announcers Hogewood and Prazak debated Black "taking the money" and going to WWE rather than taking ROH's competitive offer. Back in the ring, Richards took control of the action with a cross-arm submission, but Black flipped over into a cross-arm submission of his own. Richards escaped, then hit a kick to the chest for a two count. Very even back-and-forth in the first eight minutes to tell a story of two evenly matched top wrestlers competing for victory.
Black took control of the match set up Richards working back into the match. They traded right hand bombs, with Richards getting the best of the exchange to knock Black to the outside. Richards then nailed a suicide dive and nearly flipped over into the front row to take Black to the ground. Back in the ring, Richards came off the top with a missile dropkick. Black then took a boot to the head and they started trading forearm smashes. Richards won the exchange with a high kick to the head and Black kicked out of a pin attempt.
At 13:30, Richards teased the DR Driver, but Black blocked. Black then knocked Richards to the floor and landed more offense. Back in the ring, Black nailed a springboard clothesline, followed by a lift-up gutbuster out of the fireman's carry position. Black made a cover, but Richards kicked out in time. The crowd rallied behind Richards, who sold on the mat as Black positioned him for a top-rope move. Black teased the Phoenix Splash, but Richards came to his feet and crotched Black. Back on their feet, Richards hit the Alarm Clock kick, Black came back with a strike, then Richards dropped Black on his head with an inside-out running clothesline to put both men on the mat.
At 20:00, they came to their feet on the ring apron and exchanged tired strikes. Richards then nailed five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten kick strikes to the chest. He set up for a suplex and proceeded to DDT Black face-first onto the edge of the ring apron. Black got up and teased walking away from the match, but opted to run back into the ring just before a 20 count. Richards followed with a suplex for a two count, then hit a German Suplex with a bridge for a two count. Black tried to follow with a Shooting Star Press, but Black moved and hit the Buckle Bomb. Black followed with a standing sidekick and made a cover for another two count.
They came to their feet again at 23:30 and countered each other's trademark offense. Black then hit God's Last Gift, but Richards kicked out in time. Black then hung up Richards in the corner and slapped the crap out of time multiple times before landing a double foot stomp to the head. Black followed up with a coast-to-coast dropkick and tried a cover, but Richards kicked out in time. Great sequence. Again, Black went up top for the Phoenix Splash, but Richards got his knees up to block.
At 26:30, they set up another sequence of moves exchanged, then Richards hit the DR Driver for a close two count. Richards followed right up with a Buckle Bomb of his own before hitting God's Last Gift for another nearfall. Richards then slapped on the Texas Cloverleaf without wasting any time and Black tapped out, giving Richards the final word in their ROH feud.
WINNER: Richards via submission at 27:15. Easily one of the best TV matches of the year with a great finishing sequence playing up the story of their feud with neither man able to get the upper hand no matter what each one tried. The crowd really got into the action at the end after being subdued early on. Nice, multi-layered story told from two pros in the ring. The only drawback was the match never seemed to be in jeopardy of ending early, which took away a sense of anticipation of an early pin attempt perhaps ending the match at any time. (****1/4)
Post-match: After a replay of the high points of the match, they cut back to Richards and Black recovering in the ring. Hogewood said they wish Black well in his future endeavors. Richards then took the mic and told Black to tell the WWE wrestlers if they want some real wrestling competition, come down to ROH. Richards then left the ring and saluted the crowd from the top of the stage to conclude the show.

WWE NXT Results: 10-19-10
Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring and competition points.
1 -- KAITLYN (w/Vickie) vs. MAXINE (w/Alicia)
Back from break, Kaitlyn was sporting the C.M. Punk-style hoodie to compete tonight. Vickie and Alicia were wired for sound with headsets as they watched from the ring apron. Cole joked they found Smackdown's new announce team. Mathews just muttered under his breath that he doesn't know what's going on. Cole said it's the single worst segment ever. Maxine began tugging on Kaitlyn's sweatshirt, causing panic by Vickie. After several moments of silence, Mathews announced that Cole was taking a phone call. They cut to a shot of Cole walking away from the table to take the call. He motioned to the ring like he couldn't believe he was watching this. Cole handed the phone over to Chimel for some reason.
Back at the announce table, Cole revealed he was on the phone with his mom. Suddenly, Vickie was accidentally bumped off the ring apron in an awkward spot. Cole said there's a reason why they're on dot com. After a botched sunset flip attempt, Maxine rolled up Kaitlyn with a small package for the win. Kaitlyn, frustrated, yanked off the sweatshirt and threw it at Vickie.
WINNER: Maxine in 4:00. For argument's sake that they weren't intentionally trying to botch spots to give Cole and Mathews more opportunities to get over their "Mystery Science 3000" commentary style on NXT, it's an indictment of WWE's developmental system not having wrestlers ready for TV.
2 -- BELLA TWINS vs. KELLY KELLY & NAOMI
Cole said he can't believe Naomi went on Twitter saying she could take him out. He said no one knocks Wolf Blitzer on the stories he covers. The Bellas started things off working over Kelly, who eventually tagged in Naomi. The crowd chanted for Goldust as Naomi went to work on Brie. Suddenly, a pier-six brawl broke out when the Bellas thought Naomi was working stiff in the ring. Nikki messed with Naomi's hair, then went to work on Naomi as Kelly looked for a tag from the ring apron. Nikki showed aggression dropping Naomi on her head before tagging Brie in. Naomi then broke out of the Bella corner before Nikki yanked her down from the outside. They pulled the switcheroo, which now has a name of "Twin Magic," to score the pin on Naomi. The Bellas celebrated the win as Brie sold that she was a bit thrown by her sister's attitude.
WINNERS: Bellas in 5:00. And your breakout star of the show: Nikki, for tapping into her heel persona from last year that the announcers completely forgot about. Decent match with the Bellas working well to make it seem like a realistic competition for a match victory. (*1/4)
Naomi won the 'Guess the wrestler' and 'limbo' competition, leads over A.J. 3-1, the other three have no points.

1 -- SANTINO MARELLA & KOZLOV vs. USOS (JIMMY & JEY w/Tamina)
Cole noted that the night Santino qualified for Team Raw, Tamina came to the ring and tackled him to celebrate Santino's qualification victory. Santino feigned an injury and tagged in Kozlov, who shoved down Jey. Jimmy then tagged in and Kozlov dropped him on his stomach with a waistlock. The Usos began dominating Kozlov as Santino begged the ref to open his eyes. They cut to break with the Usos in control.
Back from break, the Usos were still dominating Kozlov as Santino became frustrated with his inability to get a hot tag. Lawler said he is a little concerned with Santino being the weak link on Team Raw at Bragging Rights. Kozlov finally broke free and tagged in Santino, who landed a hip toss and raised the roof. Santino delivered the Sailor Salute fist drop for a two count as the action broke down. Santino then busted out the Cobra and dropped Jimmy for the pin and the win. They cut to a shot of Tamina trying to hold back a smile as she checked on her men. After a replay of the finish, they showed the Usos complaining to each other while Tamina quietly waved toward Santino to acknowledge his success in the ring.
WINNERS: Santino & Kozlov in 14:00. Basic, predictable tag match trying to focus on Santino ahead of the Bragging Rights PPV. It's just not realistic for someone like Kozlov to sell for an extended length of time building to the hot tag to Santino. (*1/4)
2 -- DARREN YOUNG vs. WILLIAM REGAL
Regal dominated early on and took Young to the mat to try to control him on the mat. Cole said Regal likes to "pound and ground." Lawler said it's "ground and pound." Cole shot back that at least he didn't call Santino's finisher the Scorpion rather than the Cobra. Young gained control of the match with a side headlock, then pounded on Regal with a forearm to the back. Regal ducked a second and rammed Young into the top turnbuckle before landing a knee strike to the head. Regal followed with forearms to the face before applying a reverse chinlock. Young fought back before Regal landed an uppercut. Regal face-washed Young in the corner, then nailed his big running knee to the head for the pin and the win. Regal lingered in the ring a bit after the match to respectfully acknowledge the fight Young gave him.
WINNER: Regal in 5:00. A good, heart scrap in the ring. They're trying to get over a "toughness" dimension to Young's character, with Regal giving him an endorsement in that area post-match. Solid. (*1/2)
3 -- WWE tag champions CODY RHODES & DREW MCINTYRE vs. FLEXIN' & BALLIN' (CHRIS MASTERS & MVP) -- non-title match
Masters and Rhodes started things off with Masters rocking Cody with clubbing forearm smashes. Cody wanted no part of MVP, who tagged in as Cody slid across the ring to tag in Drew. The pace picked up with MVP working over Drew before Masters tagged in. Masters and MVP then cleared the heels from the ring and pumped themselves up as they cut to break.
Back from break, Cody was working over Masters's leg following a sneak attack from Drew during the break. Cody had a good laugh as he methodically worked over Masters, who teased a hot tag to MVP before Cody cut him off. Enter Drew. MVP eventually took the hot tag as Cody tagged in. MVP landed three consecutive German Suplexes before landing a running boot to the face. MVP knocked Drew off the ring apron before dropping Cody with multiple clotheslines. MVP then set up Cody for the Ballin' elbow drop and connected.
MVP wanted to finish things off with the Playmaker, but Drew broke it up. Masters then slapped on the Masterlock as the action broke down. MVP was eventually left alone in the ring where the numbers came caught up to him as Cody raked MVP's eyes from behind before hitting Cross Rhodes. Cody with the pin on MVP for the win.
Post-match: They cut to a shot of Masters having a huge bump underneath his left eye that was already swollen up, apparently from when he was dumped to the outside during the finishing sequence scrum. They cut to a final shot of Drew and Cody celebrating in the ring to close out the show.
WINNERS: Rhodes & McIntyre in 12:00. Solid tag match. Nice back and forth, with MVP showing renewed vigor during the match and the tag champs continuing to show more chemistry as a unit. It would be nice if they actually came out to the ring together to dispel the thought of them being two singles guys just thrown together as a tag team. (**)

1 -- AMAZING RED vs. ROBBIE E. (w/Cookie)
Amazing Red is back! What, he never left? When was his last TV match? Whatever happened to Don West being his manager? This began at 9:20 p.m. It ended at 9:21.
WINNER: Robbie E. in 1:00
2 -- A.J. STYLES vs. "THE POPE" D'ANGELO DINERO -- Street Fight for the TV Title
This began at 8:42. Taz continued his slide into being a heel-sympathizer (albeit inconsistently applied) in defending Bischoff for wanting to create a "fair regime." They brawled on the stage before Styles entered the ring. Taz defended Styles against Tenay's implication that Styles needs his cohorts to win matches. Tenay denied that's what he was implying. Styles used a low-blow to gain the advantage at 2:00 as they first entered the ring. Styles shoved Pope through the ropes to the floor. Styles went for a slingshot dive onto Pope at ringside, but Pope moved and Styles crashed to the floor at 4:00. Abyss attacked Pope from behind. Taz admitted this wasn't fair "and kinda stinks." Abyss gave Pope a Black Hole Slam. Styles smiled and spanked him as a thanks. Styles made the cover. The ref Earl Hebner made a slow reluctant three count and glared at Styles the whole time.
WINNER: Styles in 6:00.
STAR RATING: *1/4
3 -- ROB VAN DAM & SABU vs. BEER MONEY
We're 80 minutes in with about 7 minutes of wrestling. This began at 10:21 p.m. Taz said RVD and Sabu have tagged up for many years many times in the past. Taz wondered why Bischoff picked Sabu to team with RVD. Tenay said he must not be paying attention to Bischoff's career. Taz said it was a rhetorical question. Tenay said he lived it every day in WCW. Tenay accused Taz of being overly friendly to Bischoff and Hogan. Taz said he's always been friendly to them. By 3:00 Beer Money took control of Sabu. Tenay hyped that Mickie James's in-ring TNA debut was coming up along with an Ultimate X match. RVD hot-tagged in at 4:00. Sabu and RVD each hit back somersault splashes leading to a two count on Roode. They continued with double-team moves leading to Storm breaking up another pin attempt. Four-way action ensued. Sabu grabbed a chair and threw it at Storm, but Storm ducked and the chair hit RVD in the head. Roode made the cover and scored the pin. Taz said he can't remember the last time he saw those two miss that chair move. Tenay wondered if it was an accident or premeditated. Taz said he's not sure and he won't take a side.
WINNERS: Beer Money in 5:00.
-Afterward RVD shoved Sabu and accused him of being on Bischoff's side. Sabu and RVD squared of and were about to come to blows when the rest of EV2 ran to the ring and pulled them apart.
4 -- SARITA vs. MICKIE JAMES
This began at 10:35. Taz and Tenay continued to bicker as they plugged the Bischoff explanation coming up in Reaction. Taz said Mickie has "John Nord boots." Tenay wondered where that came from. Taz said he was surprised he brought up John Nord during a Knockouts match. Mickie won with a Thesz Press off the top rope followed by a reverse sidekick.
WINNER: Mickie in 4:00.
STAR RATING: *1/4 -- Nice short match. Good chance for Mickie to show she is a Knockout who can wrestle and look tough doing it. Not everything was graceful, but at least it felt higher impact than most women's matches. Curious how this does in the Q7 ratings, although it's looking like it'll be offset somewhat by being a quarter with two commercial breaks.
5 -- KAZ vs. MR. ANDERSON -- Ultimate X Match
Kaz entered the ring and immediately moved across the cable and went for the big X. Anderson grabbed him by his leg and yanked him down and fought one-armed aggressively. Tenay called him gutsy. Taz said it was all heart. The crowd chanted "An-der-son!" Kaz slidekicked Anderson in the face as they cut to a break.
Back from the break, Anderson again yanked Kaz away from his grip on the X by swinging him until he fell onto his back. Anderson tried to work his way one-armed across the ring, but when he tried to hang on with his weak arm, he immediately fell. Anderson continued to try to stop Kaz from grabbing the X even if he couldn't grab it himself. He gave Kaz a Mic Check, but Tenay said he can't seize that opening thanks to Fortune. Anderson looked under the ring for help. Taz wondered if there was a prosthetic arm under there. Good line. Anderson pulled out a ladder. Tenay explained how that would help. Taz said, "Thank you, Captain Obvious." Finally. Good line, Taz. Anderson climbed the ladder and pulled on the X. The rest of Fortune came out. Morgan gave Anderson a powerbomb. They kicked the ladder out of the ring, then Morgan put Kaz on his shoulders and walked him over to the X which he disconnected to win.
WINNER: Kaz in 9:00.
STAR RATING (**): Not designed to be a classic style match, but the story they wanted to tell was told well. They're building heat on the heels and putting the babyfaces in a sympathetic position while pushing them as valiantly fighting against impossible odds.

WWE Smackdown Results: 10-22-10
Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Park's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.
1 – THE BIG SHOW & REY MYSTERIO & KOFI KINGSTON vs. THE MIZ & SHEAMUS & EZEKIEL JACKSON
This kind of takes the luster off of the seven-man match this Sunday, especially seeing some of these guys interact for the first time. Case in point, Sheamus started things off with Mysterio. Sheamus’ power got the best of Rey’s speed, at least early on. Mysterio tagged Kingston, who landed a springboard cross-body for a two-count. He kicked away at Sheamus, but Sheamus put him down soon after. Kingston low-bridged Sheamus, and Mysterio dropped a seated senton on him. They went to break about 2:30 into the match, with Sheamus still recovering on the outside.
Jackson was in there with Sheamus out of break, and Striker tried to talk about Jackson’s character. The Raw team isolated Kingston and made frequent tags to keep him from bringing a fresh man in. Kingston got close a couple times, and finally kicked Miz off to make the tag to Big Show. The match broke down with all six men getting involved not long after. Miz came off the top rope and right into a chokeslam. Rey climbed on Show’s shoulders and splashed Miz for the win.
WINNER: Team Smackdown, at 8:38. Odd that Miz would take the pinfall loss here. Otherwise, a match that shouldn’t have to take place to hype up the PPV tag match if WWE spent any kind of time creating a rivalry between the two brands in the previous 51 weeks. It just feels like WWE has no other ideas to build the tag match besides having the wrestlers involved fight each other, which makes the actual tag match less special.
2 – JACK SWAGGER vs. SANTINO MARELLA
Santino tried a flying punch, but only half-heartedly, to take Swagger out of his game early on. Swagger took Santino down and rolled around with him until Santino rolled out of the ring. The Swagger mascot quietly made his way over to Santino as if to interfere, but before he could get there, Hornswoggle ran out to keep the eagle at bay. Back in the ring, Swagger shoved Santino a couple times, until Santino fought back. Single-arm take-over by Marella, but that was all he could do. Swagger clothelsined Marella in the corner, then tossed him out of the ring. Horny kept the eagle at bay again, and the announcers discussed the obvious issue, that being Hornswoggle protecting a Raw superstar. Santino gave the cobra to the eagle and Horny gave him the tadpole splash on the outside. In the ring, Santino took it to Swagger, then set up the cobra. Swagger instead grabbed the leg and applied the ankle-lock for the win.
WINNER: Swagger, at 2:54. As usual with Santino, the extracurricular events got more of the focus than the match.
3 – ALBERTO DEL RIO vs. JOHN MORRISON
The wrestlers are all competing while wearing their show’s respective t-shirts. Snap-mare and a kick to the back by Del Rio. Double-leg take-down, then Morrison hammered away on his opponent. Running knee to the head only got a one-count. Del Rio turned things around with a back-breaker. Kick to the back by Del Rio, and a beauty. Bell-to-back suplex for a two-count by Del Rio. Alberto continued to work the neck of his Raw counterpart. Del Rio did miss a move in the corner – not sure what it was supposed to be, almost a dropkick I guess, but one you don’t see. Morrison went on the offensive, but Del Rio landed a German suplex with a bridge for a two-count. Morrison ducked the enziguiri, but Del Rio got his knees up on Starship Pain. Del Rio capitalized with the cross arm-breaker for the submission win. Smackdown is 3-0 tonight.
WINNER: Del Rio, at 4:34. Pretty even match, with both guys looking good.
4 – EDGE vs. CM PUNK
Punk still had his right elbow taped. Crowd was firmly behind Edge, chanting his name early on in the match. Side headlock by Edge as the contest began slowly. Punk backed him into the corner, and laid in a few shoulders into the mid-section before the referee could break up the two. Hard whip into the turnbuckle by Punk, and a cover got only one. Edge fought back, but missed his cross-body with Punk draped across the middle rope. That allowed Punk to regain control. Punk hung Edge out to dry over the top rope, but he was hurting in the ring while Edge was writhing in pain outside. They went to break about five minutes in.
Punk had Edge in a body-scissors upon return. Punk went flying, but Edge caught his springboard attempt and turned it into a bodyslam. Both men were down. They traded punches in the middle of the ring, broken up by a few kicks from Punk. He missed a head-shot and the two exchanged counters until Edge came out on top. Suplex attempt, but Punk pushed him away and got him up for a GTS. Edge-O-Match by Edge, but Punk kicked out literally, with a kick to Edge’s head. Grisham called Edge a “future Hall-of-Famer.” That’s probably true. Both men appeared frustrated that they couldn’t get the upper-hand to this point. Running knee in the corner by Punk, but Edge turned the bulldog into an Edgecution DDT for two. Edge climbed to the top turnbuckle, but Punk crotched him. He went up and tried to suplex Edge down, but Punk sent him to the mat. He climbed off the top and set up for the spear. Before he could hit it, The Miz and his flunkey, Alex Riley, came to the ring and pulled Edge out of it. They attacked him on the outside for the DQ.
WINNER: Edge, via DQ, at 13:16.
Kofi came out to attack and threw Riley out of the ring, but Miz gave him the Skull Crushing Finale. Each member of the two teams came out one-by-one and hit one of their pet moves on an opponent, until another person came out from the opposite team and took them out. Mysterio was the last one out, hitting the 619 on Sheamus until Punk came back and attacked him. Edge speared Punk, leaving Smackdown again with the upper-hand. The Smackdown team closed the segment with all of their arms raised in the ring.
5 – LAYCOOL vs. NATALYA & KELLY KELLY
Layla wrestled dressed up as Natalya, and choked the real Natalya in the top rope. McCool kicked Natalya in the face as Striker tried to do a Bret Hart impersonation. She tagged in and did some damage, but when Layla came in, she fell victim to a butterfly suplex from Natalya. Layla went for a neckbreaker but Natalya went for a backslide for two. She tried to hook in the Sharpshooter, but McCool grabbed Layla’s hands to prevent the turn. Eventually, Natalya got it and picked up the submission win.
WINNERS: Natalya and Kelly Kelly, at 2:25. Probably a smart move to keep Kelly on the apron if WWE wanted any semblance of a decent match here.
6 – KANE vs. RANDY ORTON
Surprised there were no interviews leading up to this match, especially to use them as a last-minute opportunity to hype their respective title matches coming up on Sunday. Kane charged out with a few clotheslines in the corner, followed up by a sidewalk slam. He signaled that he was ready to put Orton away early, but Orton squirmed out of the Tombstone and hit his unique back-breaker on Kane. He then set up for the RKO, but Kane fled to ringside. Orton went out and pushed Kane into the ringpost. Orton sent Kane head-first into the announce table, then back into the ring. After a few moments of action, they went back to the outside where this time, Kane took the fight to Orton, slamming his back alternately against the apron and the barricade. Orton was left lying outside the ring as they went to break.
Kane had Orton in a bearhug as the show returned from break. Both men were worn out as if they’d wrestled 15 minutes to this point. Kane kicked at Orton’s gut, but Orton finally reached his feet and fired back with rights. Of course, this was just a tease of a comeback, and Kane gave him a shot to the stomach. Back outside the ring, Orton went spine-first into the ringpost. Another bearhug in the ring, but Orton tried to create separation, and did so with more right hands. He walked right into a back-breaker, though, and Kane got a two-count. Kane landed his clothesline from the top rope for only two. Chokeslam was looming, but Orton elbowed out. He got a boot up on a Kane charge in the corner. He tried to overpower Kane to take him down, but wasn’t successful until he impressively hit a powerslam. He set Kane up for his rope-assisted DDT, and connected. Orton was quite animated, more so than usual, in setting up for the RKO. He was pushed off on an attempt and Kane booted him in the face. As Kane was going to chokeslam Orton, the lights went out. The bell tolled and Orton was behind Kane. When Kane turned around, he fell victim to the RKO. Fin.
WINNER: Orton, at 12:00. I was afraid that, when the lights went out, we’d have another non-finish. Thank goodness I was wrong.
Orton posed with the WWE Title as he went up the ramp. Kane was livid outside the ring. He knocked over the trophy pedestal and tore up the announce table. Crowd was chanting for Undertaker. The bell tolled again, and the lights dimmed. Taker came up from under the ring, breaking through the ring, and trying to drag Kane down with him. He managed to do so, though Kane held on for dear life. From below, Taker grabbed Kane’s head and pulled him down. The lights then went out again and the WWE logo appeared in the corner, signaling the end of the show.
