(1) HOMICIDE vs. AMAZING RED
WINNER: Homicide in 3 minutes, plus one on the outside. The short loss makes more sense than usual, given the prematch ambush. The action was unbelievable while it lasted. I'm stoked for their title match, when it happens.

(2) MATT MORGAN vs. SCOTT STEINER
WINNER: Matt Morgan in five minutes. The ref I think tried to act like he missed all the interference, though Tenay claims he just decided to let it go. I can't decide what I think about the fact that Lashley managed to somehow evince absolutely no personality even when running out to save his wife. It's rather impressive, really.

(3) SAMOA JOE & KEVIN NASH vs. AJ STYLES & DANIELS
WINNERS: Joe & Nash in six minutes. That was pretty good, if a predictable attempt to break up Styles & Daniels.

(4) AWESOME KONG vs. RAESHA SAEED
WINNER: Awesome Kong in 3 minutes. They did a really good job actually working Saeed's knowledge of Kong into the story of the match.

(5) HERNANDEZ vs. RHINO
WINNER: Hernandez in three minutes. Tenay on commentary tried to sell us on Rhino talking sense. If they just want to make the heel plausible and understandable, I'm all for that. But if they recreate The Millionaires' Club as faces, I will not be pleased.

(6) LETHAL CONSEQUENCES vs. THE MOTOR CITY MACHINGE GUNS
Ultimate X #1 Contender's Match
WINNERS: The Motor City Machine Guns in 8 minutes. This was far from the best Ultimate X, but it was still fairly awesome. If you thought this was a pointless spot-fest, you are probably right, but I don't really see your point. Moreover, other than the Super Sliced Bread #2 nothing even looked overly dangerous (when people came down off the ropes they typically landed on their feet), so it was something of a win-win. If you actively disliked this match, you're probably watching the wrong show—this was the foundation on which the TNA house was built.

(7) THE BRITISH INVASION (c) w/ROB TERRY vs. BEER MONEY INC.
Six Sides of Steel for the TNA Tag Team Championships
WINNERS by DQ: Beer Money Inc. It was a lot like the last match, but much better—just pure high octane action. Incidentally, you know what would be a good way to keep people from gaming the system—go back to the rule that the title can change hands on a DQ.

WWE Smackdown Results: 10-23-09

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Park's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1- JTG & ERIC ESCOBAR & DOLPH ZIGGLER & DREW MCINTYRE vs. MATT HARDY & FINLAY & TYSON KIDD & DAVID HART SMITH & R-TRUTH- HANDICAP MATCH, WINNERS WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE RAW vs. SMACKDOWN TAG MATCH AT BRAGGING RIGHTS

Yep, it pretty much is everyone who lost last week, only without Mike Knox. Thrilling and original. JTG started with his legdrop over the back of the neck of Kidd for a one-count. Short clothesline from Finlay took one-half of Cryme Tyme to the mat. Finlay then took his roughhouse style to Ziggler, slamming a shoulder into his gut in the corner. Corner charge by Ziggler and no one was home- his head even hit the steel post. He went to the outside as the show went to break about 2:20 into the match.

Escobar with a light clothesline on Finlay, so much so that Fit barely sold it. Jericho and Kane were looking on backstage as Ziggler tagged in, rolling up Finlay for one. Rear chin-lock by Ziggler. The announcers reminded fans that Shad Gaspard was under the weather, which is why it’s a handicap match, and that JR is as well. Hardy made a tag to a decent pop (first of the match) and planted Ziggler into the mat for two. Everybody played abandon ship nd ended on the outside, except Hardy and JTG. But Finlay use the Shillelagh and Hardy hit the Twist of Fate for the win.

WINNERS: Hardy, Finlay, Kidd, Smith and R-Truth, at 9:35. Great, now on Smackdown’s side is guys who all lost last week, and guys who have been on the losing end of feuds: R-Truth with McIntyre, the Harts with Cryme Tyme, and Hardy with everyone in the last month (including taking the pin on Superstars this week). Even-steven booking taken to a whole ‘nother level, with all the losers last week winning here, and the winners losing.

2- JOHN MORRISON vs. MIKE KNOX

During Morrison’s entrance, they showed clips of Miz vs. Marty Jannetty from Raw. Another inset interview from Knox, talking about severe pain in the abdomen, something that no amount of muscle can prevent. OK then. Morrison avoided a big boot, but landed a cross-body for two. Gut-buster by Knox for only two again. Abdominal stretch by Knox. Roll-up from Morrison for two, and he then went after Knox’s leg. Running knee to the cranium by Morrison for two. Bicycle kick by Knox for two. Knox fell throat-first over the top rope on a cross-body attempt and Morrison capitalized with Starship Pain (barely hitting) for the win.

WINNER: Morrison, at 3:07. Not one of either man’s better outings. So much for the Knox push.

3- REY MYSTERIO & BATISTA vs. CHRIS JERICHO & KANE

Jericho taunted Batista with a slap, and the big man responded with a clothesline. Rey came in but was sent to the outside courtesy of the illegal man, Kane. Batista left the apron to go make sure Kane didn’t get more involved as they went to break under 2:00 into the contest.

Back with Kane working on the back of Rey. Jericho tagged in and trash talked Mysterio, slapping him around in the process. Bulldog by Rey as Batista tried to get the crowd into things. Kane made the tag and cheap-shotted Batista. The ref had to hold the Animal back and while he did, Jericho illegally took the fight to Mysterio. High vertical suplex, with Jericho flexing with one arm as he held Rey up, in an ultimate heel move, got a two count off of it. King said that when Jericho goes to a football game and sees the team huddling, he thinks they’re talking about him; that’s how ego-centric he is. Finally, both men made tags. Batista corner clotheslined Kane- Kane missed one of his own and was taken down hard by Batista, followed up by a spinebuster. Jericho got one as well. But that allowed Kane time to recover and nail Batista with a big boot. Then he threw Batista shoulder-first into the ring post. Kane got ready for the chokeslam, but Rey gave himself up, throwing himself into the hand of Kane. Kane seemed surprised, but chokeslammed him anyway. Then Batista came back and speared Kane for the win.

WINNERS: Batista & Rey, at 9:57. Perfectly fine match.

4- MICKIE JAMES vs. LAYLA

And Mickie starts out with the bottom of the totem pole. It’s funny, Cole and Lawler mentioned once again they were filling in for JR, but never brought up where Todd Grisham was. Dropkick by Mickie on Layla, but Layla came back by throwing her out of the ring. She landed on her feet and tripped Layla up. Layla grabbed Mickie’s hair and pulled her off the top rope. McCool was looking on backstage. Side roll by Layla for a one-count. Then Mickie with a roll-up for two. Sidewalk slam from Layla, but the shoulders were not down, and thus referee Aaron “Goose” Mahoney didn’t make any count. Hard slap by Mickie as Layla showed her some dis-respect. Clothesline by James, then a few light forearm shots. Neck-breaker and a beauty though, to make up for it. Layla missed a kick and Mickie jumped her with a Thesz Press. Spin kick by Mickie on Layla and that does it.

WINNER: James, at 2:46. Fine debut for Mickie, realizing she was in there with Layla.

6- C.M. PUNK vs. THE UNDERTAKER- SUBMISSION MATCH FOR THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Punk was laughing and jumping up and down like a kid at ringside as Taker handed his belt to Armstrong before the match. Taker took Punk right down with a right hand, and we once again heard Cole proclaim Taker “perhaps the best pure striker in the history of the game.” Ah, I’ve missed that. Wait, no I haven’t. Punk came back and tried to lock in the Anaconda Vice, to no avail. Cole wondered if the fix was in as they went to break.

Taker threw Punk out of the ring back from break, and Punk hit his back hard on the edge of the apron. Taker continued the assault by throwing Punk onto the announce table. Long had gotten out of his chair and moved away from the action. I think there was a “we want tables” chant. Punk dodged a Taker kick and Taker landed with his leg bouncing off the top rope. Not a god move for a guy with a bad hip. On the outside, Punk slammed Taker’s skull into the steel steps, then whipped him into the steps, Taker hitting leg-first. He didn’t do his usual flip over the steps either. Punk came off the top but landed right in Taker’s grip. He went after the Dead Man’s knee to get out of it and hammered away. They traded rights, with Taker predictably getting the dupe. Vintage Undertaker with the Snake Eyes, then legdrop. Punk rolled out of the Hell’s Gate and Taker headbutted him. Taker went Old School, but Punk pulled him down. Luckily he did that, as Long got out of his chair and started walking toward the ring. High knee in the corner, then a running bulldog by Punk. Punk called for Teddy to give him the chair. Long was slow to get up....and he gave the chair to Armstrong. What a wuss. Punk took the chair from Armstrong, but Taker got his boot up on a chair charge by C.M. Taker looked at Armstrong, then chokeslammed him. He turned his attention to Teddy, who did the smart thing and started to head to the back. Taker gave him the throat slash, but Punk came from behind with a chair to the gut and the back- then to the skull. Punk yelled for Long to get him a new referee, then locked in the Anaconda Vice. Long called for the bell, but apparently, only a ref can do that. Since when? Anyway, Mike Chioda ran to the ring and as soon as he got there, Taker reversed it into Hell’s Gate for the tap-out win.

WINNER: Taker, at 11:37. Don’t know why they’d give a match like this away only a few days before the PPV match, but I guess because it’s a different stip and there was enough extracurricular activities, they didn’t give too much away. Still, odd that Long couldn’t end the match- did Taker get to Mark Yeaton?

WWE Bragging Rights PPV Results: 10-25-09

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's ongoing report).

1 -- U.S. champion THE MIZ vs. IC champion JOHN MORRISON
WINNER: Miz at 10:53. A big win for Miz with WWE giving him a solid opportunity to use the singles victory over Morrison to continue building up his mid-card title reign. Match was good, but not quite great. Another five minutes could have entered four-star territory. This was a good, solid three-star match. (***)

2 -- RAW DIVAS (Divas champion MELINA & KELLY KELLY & GAIL KIM) vs. SMACKDOWN DIVAS (Women's champion MICHELLE MCCOOL & BETH PHOENIX & NATALYA)
WINNERS: Team Smackdown at 6:13. So, now we're 1-1. Match outcome was pretty predictable once they mentioned the Best out of Three stip for the trophy and Miz won the opener. (*)

3 -- World Hvt. champion THE UNDERTAKER vs. C.M. PUNK vs. REY MYSTERIO vs. BATISTA -- World Hvt. Title match
WINNER: Taker at 9:59 to retain the World Title. We know what the beard was for with Batista. It was a heel beard to foreshadow a heel turn. Match was pretty good for ten minutes without an extended period of time for isolations or other multiple-man tricks. Nice, competitive match. Taker looked good for being banged up. Punk played a solid heel, but he's pretty much done with Taker from here it seems unless WWE continues to drag this out some more.

4 -- TEAM RAW (TRIPLE H & SHAWN MICHAELS & BIG SHOW & MARK HENRY & KOFI KINGSTON & JACK SWAGGER & CODY RHODES) vs. TEAM SMACKDOWN (CHRIS JERICHO & KANE & TYSON KIDD & D.H. SMITH & FINLAY & R-TRUTH & MATT HARDY)
WINNERS: Team Smackdown at 15:33. Okay multiple-man gimmick match. Had a few moments, but the finish was a major letdown for people who bought the PPV hoping to see something definitive. Instead, it was a TNA-style "tune into the free TV show!" to find out the storyline of why Big Show did what he did. Underwhelming, unsatisfying match. I'm trying to think of who stood out in the match, but no one really did. Perhaps Hart Dynasty with the Hart Attack on HBK, but that's about it. Cody Rhodes was an after-thought, Swagger had one move, Kofi took the pin, Truth was scared, and Henry just fell on the floor. (*3/4)

5 -- WWE champion RANDY ORTON vs. JOHN CENA -- 60-minute Iron Man match -- WWE Title match -- Anything goes
WINNER: Cena 6, Orton 5 with a submission at 59:54. Quite the war. Nothing else on this show was replay-worthy, but this was replay-worthy. WWE pulled out all the tricks, gimmicks, and other assorted items to tell a 60-minute story. Orton was the star of the match with his crazy facial expressions and psychotic behavior staying true to his character. Story at the end we'll probably see play out on Raw was Orton unable to hold on for those last six seconds or Orton complaining that he had Cena pinned at 58:00. Hard to rate this on a traditional scale, but I believe this was one of the best stories WWE has told on PPV this year. HBK vs. Taker is another level and in its own category, but this was a different type of four-to-five-star level match. (****1/2)

WWE RAW Results: 10-27-09

1 -- CHRIS JERICHO vs. KOFI KINGSTON
WINNER: Kofi Kingston at 13:37. That's a veteran who is confident in his position, secure in his spot, and willing to give a younger wrestler a meaningful win in a two-segment TV match. I'd like to see another match between these two, as they didn't seem to mesh until the very end. (**1/2)

Post-match: Randy Orton snuck up behind Kofi Kingston as he celebrated on the stage and chucked Kofi off the stage to the floor below next to the NASCAR cars. Don't tell me he's going to run him over. Crowd with a loud "Cena, Cena" chant as Orton stared down at Kofi, who was checked on by medical staff. Orton was obviously upset Kofi interfered in the Iron Man match. Orton stared down at Kofi with that look as Kofi slowly made it to a seated position before they cut to promos. Kofi getting some serious attention from two of WWE's top heels tonight.

2 -- Divas champion MELINA & SANTINO MARELLA vs. JILLIAN HALL & CHAVO GUERRERO
WINNERS: Santino & Melina at 2:37. Match was just there and forgettable. Typical WWE trying to own a story in the news, this time related to the Wine School of Philadelphia. Vince McMahon must not be happy with the school playing WWE's "underdog" card so effectively. (1/2*)

3 -- TED DIBIASE, JR. & CODY RHODES vs. MVP & MARK HENRY
WINNERS: Henry & MVP at 4:48. Just a match. Post-match was more important. (*1/2)

4 -- U.S. champion THE MIZ vs. EVAN BOURNE -- non-title match
WINNER: Bourne via count-out at 4:20. WWE's answer to frustrated Bourne fans: here's a count-out win, now shut up. Miz vs. Swagger has potential, but we need to see where this mystery, loosely-defined championship challenger storyline is going. (*1/4)

5 -- SHEAMUS vs. JAMIE NOBLE
WINNER: Sheamus at 2:17. Double shot of Sheamus and Triple H linked up here. Fine intro for Sheamus to the Raw audience before he's worked into an actual program. No need to rush. (n/a)

6 -- BIG SHOW (w/Chris Jericho) vs. TRIPLE H (w/Shawn Michaels)
WINNER: Hunter at 14:04. Exciting conclusion with plenty of tricks and a ton of bodies flying everywhere to rile up the crowd and set up the big finish. It was one way to get a bunch of new faces in the main event situation, including one big moment for Evan Bourne. Kofi had a nice moment too before the big guns pulled out the FU, superkick, and Pedigree combo. Foreshadowing... (**1/4)

Post-match: Cena, Michaels, and Hunter celebrated in the ring. Busch and Logano then came out on stage and thanked everyone for letting them host the show tonight. He said they've been thinking all night about who should face Cena for the title at Survivor Series. They couldn't agree on it all (fitting the theme of them disagreeing on everything), so they found one person who put them all on the same page. Out came Hornswoggle, who was still wearing the DX gear. Announcers repeated the "cease and desist" order. Busch then announced a triple threat match: Cena vs. Michaels vs. Hunter at Survivor Series. Cena stared at Hunter, then Michaels, then Hunter, then Michaels. Michaels kind of stared into space. Hunter didn't know what to say. Cena did an "I dunno" reaction as they closed the show. All those fresh faces were a chance to get some new people in the main event situation before a tried and true, familiar main event for the next PPV.

ECW on SyFy Results: 10-27-09

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- SHELTON BENJAMIN vs. SHEAMUS

Basic exchanges to start things off, then Shelton excited the crowd by knocking Sheamus to the floor. He then landed a nice springboard moonsault on the floor that KO'ed Sheamus on the floor going to break with Shelton in control.

Back from break, Sheamus was in control after ramming Shelton into the ringpost on the floor. Announcers talked about Sheamus bailing ECW and Mathews took an opportunity to talk up the ECW brand as the place for "young, vibrant, and aggressive" young talent looking to make a name for themselves. Shelton walked into a powerslam at 7:00, then Sheamus went back to work on Shelton's neck and head and back. Shelton suddenly exploded with an overhead suplex on Sheamus off the ropes. Lots of young kids screaming at the top of their lungs and making an emotional investment in the outcome of the match. Both men came to their feet and exchanged haymakers before Shelton came flying off the ropes with a splash and made his full babyface comeback. Shelton then hit a German suplex with a bridge, but Sheamus grabbed the bottom rope for a rope break. Announcers talked up Shelton representing the ECW locker room against Sheamus, then, right on cue, Sheamus smashed Shelton with a bicycle kick to the head. Sheamus made the cover for the win. Afterward, Shelton was frustrated with himself for losing while Sheamus triumphantly left the ECW brand.

WINNER: Sheamus in 11:00. Good TV singles match. This feud had so much potential to carry through to the end of the year, as both men had good chemistry in their first long-form match on this show. Perhaps WWE will re-visit this down the road if they end up on the same brand. As for chemistry, I like the mix of Mathews and Saxton. Saxton needs some polish, but he's smooth, isn't over-bearing, and doesn't over-stay his welcome trying to enhance the match action. Good mix after hearing them call a match. (**1/4)

2 -- ECW champion CHRISTIAN vs. YOSHI TATSU -- ECW Title match

Yoshi scored some early nearfalls to show that he meant business going after the title. Yoshi reversed a hold into a backslide for a close nearfall that sent Christian scurrying to his corner for a breather. Christian sold shock that Yoshi was close to winning the belt. They cut to break with Yoshi on the advantage.

Back from break, Christian was in control trying to slow down Yoshi. Christian then went up top, but Yoshi shoved him off the top rope to the floor below. Yoshi tried to follow with a splash, but Christian moved and Yoshi landed on the floor with the sell of a knee injury. Christian followed right up with a running splash off the top rope to drop Yoshi on the floor again. Christian then took Yoshi back into the ring and went to work on Yoshi with mat holds. Saxton talked about Yoshi trying to get a major victory with his friends and family watching back home in Japan.

Yoshi fought off Christian on the top rope, then came off the top with a spinning heel kick. One, two, kickout by Christian with the crowd popping for the believable nearfall. Yoshi then busted out a discus roaring elbow smash that Mathews reacted to. Yoshi with another pin for a two count. Christian tried to come back with the Killswitch, but Yoshi blocked. Christian then put Yosho on the middle rope and stood on his back in his signature move. Christian with a missile dropkick from the second rope, then he went up top for a top rope dropkick, but Yoshi caught Christian's legs and tried a jack-knife pin for another close two count. Yoshi tried to follow with his rolling kick strike, but Christian countered with a fallaway drop for a two count.

Christian took a deep breath after his nearfall and clapped up the audience. Christian called for the KS, but Yoshi blocked with a kick to the gut. Christian tried to come back with a sunset flip pin, but Yoshi nailed him with a kick strike and another two count. Yoshi begged for a three count to sell the nearfall. Yoshi wanted the end, but Christian ducked a roundhouse kick. Another block of the Killswitch, but Christian nailed his lean-back pendulum kick out of the corner followed by a European Uppercut from the second rope. Christian wanted the ending again and this time he dropped Yoshi with the Killswitch. Christian rolled Yoshi over and made the cover for the win.

WINNER: Christian in 17:00. Excellent, excellent TV match. Crowd was behind the underdog, but they still wanted Christian to win. Both men were even stronger babyfaces coming out of the match. Great, believable, well-placed nearfalls from both men. I highly recommend watching this match on the DVR or online if you missed the match. Yoshi came out of this looking like a star. (***3/4)
